Ch. 5

The next time Reyna woke up, she was in a pure white room. Looking down groggily, she saw herself in a hospital gown tucked into a hospital bed; the sight of it shocked her into a full sitting position although she wished she hadn't. Sitting in the corner in an armchair was Elias, his huge form crammed into the small seat. At her movements he was suddenly alert, the corner of his eyes turned down in worry.

A doctor rushed in a few moments later, just in time to stop her from pulling out her IV.

"Oh wonderful, Luna-" Elias growled loudly and Reyna jumped while the doctor turned a few shades paler, "I mean Reyna, you are awake. How are you feeling?"

"How am I feeling? How am I feeling?" Reyna could feel herself getting angrier and angrier but for some reason, the fear hadn't hit her yet. "I feel like I just got kidnapped by a crazy cult who can somehow turn into wolves and want me to marry their leader. Which will never ever happen!" Elias' face turned darker and darker as she carried on.

"All of you are crazy and the minute I escape I will report you all to the police so all your crazy asses can rot in jail where you belong!" This time Elias did growl and Reyna shut up, her point made.

Slowly stalking towards her like a menacing beast, Elias spoke again, his eyes once again flecked with gold. "First of all, mate, we may be made for each other, but I am your superior and you will obey me. Is that understood?" Reyna just glared at him, refusing to show any form of submission.

"I said, am I understood?" Reyna this time childishly stuck out her tongue and Elias surged forward. Just when he was about to reach her, the doctor thankfully jumped in.

"Sir, she is still weak and is just confused by all the information she has gotten. Perhaps if you let her rest?" With the doctor's hands straining to hold back Elias, Elias finally got the message and stormed out as he slammed the door shut behind him. As soon as he left, the doctor turned around with a sad look on his face.

"I'm sure that this is all confusing for you, but I promise it will all make sense soon." He began fiddling around with the IV as Reyna's head swirled with unanswered questions.

"Do you think..." she began. The doctor stood up and looked at her. "Do you think he would have hurt me just now?" Noticing the fear in her eye, the doctor replied, "Of course not! He is your mate, to hurt you is to hurt himself." But Reyna didn't miss the shred of doubt in his eyes and that made her 100% that she would have to find a way to escape sooner rather than later.

Later in the afternoon after a hearty lunch that the doctor taste tested himself to prove it wasn't drugged, Reyna was discharged and led back to her prison by Beth, the old maid. The halls were still empty, but for some reason, she still felt like she was being watched by hundreds of eyes.

"Beth?" she asked the maid as the woman was about to lock to the door. "Can you please tell me about werewolves?" The woman's face instantly brightened.

"Of course dear! What do you want to know." She set down the key and stood attentively.

"Well," Reyna began shyly. "Are you a werewolf?" The sentence sounded crazy but after what she had seen the previous night, she realized it was possible. Beth nodded enthusiastically. "I am, and so is just about everyone you will meet here." Reyna just smiled weakly, but she felt disheartened. They all had extreme strength and could turn into wolves. Escape was looking incredibly difficult.

"Can you tell me about werewolves?"

"Well, werewolves have been around since the beginning of time. No one knows how, but we have been in existence just as long or longer than mankind. From an early time, we have learned to conceal ourselves from humans so that we don't get hunted out of existence the way we almost were in the earliest centuries. Now there are several thousand of us all around the world."

"Do you guys live in packs like actual wolves?" Reyna asked. "We do," Beth confirmed. "However there is a larger structure than that. While there are several hundred packs there is a hierarchy. There is an Alpha King who has his own pack but is the most powerful werewolf in existence. He rules over all werewolves regardless of their rank. Just below him are his generals. He has 6 generals, one for each continent other than Antartica. The general has his own pack but rules over all werewolves within his continent. This is the pack you are currently residing with. The Blackwood pack of General Blackwood."

Reyna's breath stopped for a second before continuing. She was trapped with the most powerful werewolf in North America. Just her luck.

When she looked back at Beth, it was like the woman could see what she had been thinking.

"I know Alpha Blackwood seems very scary, but you are his mate and you both are made for each other. Both of you were meant to rule this pack together as Alpha and Luna." The smile she gave Reyna was meant to comfort her, but Reyna was even more creeped out. He could have just asked her out like a normal person rather than kidnap her and force her to live with him! It was the 21st century after all, and that was what every other sane man did. A pang struck her heart as she thought about Eliza, who had always been bolder than her. If she were Eliza, she probably would have found a way to escape rather than freaking out about every little thing. Channeling her inner Eliza, Reyna reigned in feelings and continued pursuing information.

"Do wolves really transform during the full moon?"

"That's a myth."

"How about the whole imprinting thing from Twilight?"

"Also a myth."

"And is silver their weakness?" The question that struck gold. If she hadn't been watching Beth so closely, she wouldn't have noticed how the maid's eyes flickered with nervousness, before she responded, "That's a myth." No, it's not, Reyna thought smugly as Beth left the room. It's the truth. If only she would somehow be fortunate enough to stumble upon some silver.

Over the next few days, Reyna kept her temperament as friendly as possible. Elias hadn't visited her since his outburst in the hospital and for some reason, she wanted to see him. So on the 6th day, while a maid was keeping her company, she asked for Elias to come to visit her.

Scarcely after the maid had left, Elias swooped into the room, his face sweaty and his shirt clinging onto his six-pack. Reyna felt the surprised flare of desire rush through her as she took in his body.

"You called?" he asked. His expression was just as serious as ever.

"I was wondering why I'm stuck in this room all the time. I need some fresh air."

Elias quickly shook his head without even considering it. "I don't want you to run away." A sentence that was somehow creepy and hot at the same time. Reyna shook her head, proximity to this man was making her fall deeper and deeper under his spell and she didn't plan on losing herself to Elias.

"So, I am your mate somehow?" The phrase came out like a question. Elias nodded and sat on the bed. When had he gotten so close to her?

"Yes. I am glad you are finally acknowledging that because now I can finally set some ground rules for you as you get more familiar with our pack." Reyna didn't like how he said our or the idea of rules.

"Rules?" she asked with a frown.

"Rule number one, never contradict me or talk back to me in front of the pack. You must agree with everything I say. Rule two, don't ever interact with any of the unmated males in the pack unless for a really important reason. Rule three you must not involve yourself in any of the pack affairs. As Luna, your job is to comfort me and raise our heirs. Rule four-". But Reyna had heard enough.

The wonderful feeling she felt whenever he was near faded and morphed into disgust. "What kind of old-fashioned prick are you?"

"Excuse me?" Elias' eyes grew dark with anger and Reyna could feel a storm brewing but she was still channeling her inner Eliza.

"First you kidnap me and now you expect me to do everything you say? The fifties called, they said they want you back."

"I've lived during the fifties," he said flatly, not getting her joke at all. Reyna looked at him to see if he was joking but his face was impassive.

"What? So I'm marrying my grandfather? Get out of here you pedo!" Elias growled at her name calling.

"I will not tolerate this sort of disrespect from my own mate!" he yelled. "Werewolves age slowly so I am not that much older than your human age in werewolf years. Once we mate, you will age just as slowly as us."

"Mate?" She was suddenly afraid for his explanation. The way he had said that sounded like a terribly intimate action. "Yes, mate, fuck, however, you humans say it." Reyna gasped as he invaded her personal space, his face mere inches away from his. Her traitorous eyes trailed to his lips and her breath froze in her lungs. "And I promise you, dear mate, you will be begging for me to mate and mark you before long." The desire in his eyes was palpable as his eyes dragged over her face and her chest. Just as quickly as he had invaded her personal space, he left it and was suddenly standing near the door. "I will have a pack member give you a tour of the house and the grounds but if you run, you will stay locked up in here until the Luna ceremony."

Reyna sat frozen on the bed, her hand on her lips. They had been so close to kissing and her heart skipped a beat at the thought of locking lips with Elias.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" Reyna shrieked, grabbing at her hair. That backwards fool had kidnapped her and now expected her to fall in line.

"Not if that's the last thing I do!"

"What is the last thing you do?" Reyna looked up, embarrassed to find a cute guy looking at her with open curiosity.

"Who are you?" she asked suspiciously.

"I am Sir Rodrick, Beta of the Blackwood pack!" He thumped a fist against his chest and bowed dramatically, surprising a giggle from Reyna. "I am the pack member the Alpha selected to give you a tour."

"Oh..." Reyna looked down at herself in the pajamas she had been wearing for a few days. There was no way she could walk around and meet people dressed the way she was.

"Didn't you know there was a closet in here?" Reyna shook her head, her hair covering her face as she looked at the fluffy bed covers she was sitting on.

"I'm not surprised. It is hidden in the wall. You have to press this panel here," Rodrick pressed a part of what appeared to be the wall and a long rack full of clothes slid out. "And voila!" Reyna walked over, eager to wear something other than pajamas but was disappointed by the selection.

"None of these are really my style!" Rodrick just shrugged. "We had one of the maids just purchase your clothes, perhaps later when you are Luna you can choose what you wear."

Reyna snorted in disgust before turning back to the clothing rack and choosing a summery yellow dress that fell just past her knees and covered her shoulders. Still frowning, she followed Rodrick out of the room and out the front door.

"Wow!" Reyna murmured.

"Impressive, isn't it?" Rodrick said with a grin. The house that she had been trapped in really was a lumberjack's wet dream, a huge log cabin mansion. And around it were even more houses that stretched in both directions around the mansion. In front and behind the houses were the lush, green trees she could see from the window.

"Does Elias live in the house by himself?" she asked.

"No, all the ranking members of the pack live here," he responded. "Myself, my mate, and my family. The Delta and his family. The Gamma and his family."

They walked around and Reyna saw little children running around and playing and teenagers close to her age huddled in groups. All of them looked up with excited smiles and pointed at her as she walked by and she felt uncomfortable with all the attention directed at her.

A large crowd of cheering and hollering people dragged Reyna's attention away.

"What is that?" she asked. Rodrick looked up and for the first time, his cheery smile melted away.

"Not again," he muttered. Taking quick steps that Reyna struggled to keep up with he pushed his way through the crowd despite all the grumbles. Once at the front, Reyna's eyes widened. Elias was shirtless and fighting against another man. They were both sweaty and beating each other up, but the other man looked much worse for wear.

"When will these idiots ever learn. Never challenge the most powerful wolf in North America." Rodrick just shook his head before he started violently cheering for the Alpha. The whole crowd was like a hungry entity, each blow the Alpha dealt on his opponent made them scream for more. Elias turned his back on his opponent who was clearly on his last legs and spitting out blood. Raising his arms to the crowd he roared and the crowd roared back. Reyna could feel their animalistic nature pulsing forward and indeed almost everyone in the crowd had golden eyes. While Elias was already gloating, the opponent narrowed his eyes in anger. His bones began to shift into a gray wolf and Reyna could see him getting ready to pounce.

"NO!" she yelled. But it was drowned in the cheers of the crowd for their Alpha. As the wolf pulled back on its hind legs, Reyna felt a force that wasn't her own catapult her towards the arena. She heard Rodrick yell for her to come back, but she couldn't stop her feet from moving and jumping into the arena right between the newly transformed wolf and Elias. The wolf's sharp claws were out and extending towards her chest. For a terrible moment, Reyna was about to be torn to shreds until an arm wrapped around her waist and the other around the throat of the gray wolf. She didn't have to look at the arm to know who it was, the feeling of calm that swept through her confirmed that it was Elias.

His tanned arm pulled her back against his firm chest while the other squeezed tighter and tighter around the throat of the gray wolf. Reyna heard a loud crack and the wolf's head fell at an awkward angle, its neck broken. Reyna covered her mouth in shock as Elias dropped it on the ground and glared at it as if it were last week's trash. With the threat out of the way, Reyna realized she could practically hear a pin drop. All the pack members were whispering to one another with wide eyes. As for Elias, he was breathing heavily but somehow in the short time she had known him, it was from anger.

He gently placed her on the ground and she spun around so she wouldn't throw up at the sight of the dead wolf. But when she got a look at his face, she wished she hadn't bothered. A muscle in Elias' jaw ticked as he looked at her and all the pack members' eyes burning into her back. Reyna was confused, but it was becoming increasingly apparent that what she had done was wrong.

"I'm sorry!" she told Elias. But the stone like expression on his face wouldn't budge and Reyna felt incredibly intimidated by the man. Elias nodded to someone behind her and for a moment she was confused until two burly pack members grabbed each of her arms and started dragging her away.

"What is this? What did I do? Someone, please tell me!" Reyna pleaded. Most of the pack members were glaring at her and Reyna felt anguish at their treatment. First, she had been taken from her family and friends and now she was being treated like a criminal by the least friendly group of people she had ever met. A treacherous tear threatened to leak out of her eye but with superior willpower, Reyna held it back. Her heels were digging into the dirt and muddying up her new Converse, but she didn't care.

Casting one last pleading look at Elias, Reyna screamed his name because even though she hated him and what he did somehow she knew being trapped with him was better than wherever she was going. "ELIAS!" It was yell of pure desperation and fear, even more so than that fateful night. It was palpable to those who were near her, who gave her looks of pity. But not Elias. Her forest green eyes were unreadable as he turned his back on her and stalked away in the opposite direction. Rodrick had run up to the Alpha and was frantically talking to him but a quick punch from Elias made him back down.

The heart that Reyna had never given to Elias broke on the spot. Reyna's chest was quivering with the force of her unshed tears as the guards dragged her into a dark part of the forest.
