Chapter 3
When we finally got to the training center, I was sent to a room where I was stripped, polished, plucked and beautified by three people decorated colorfully. They looked like clowns.
Soon, a man who looked more normal than the others came in and shooed the three away. He had dark hair and glittery eyelashes. (AN: I couldn't remember what Cinna looked like and I'm too lazy to go look.) He seemed familiar, but I just couldn't place him. He said nothing. Occasionally while putting my costume on, he'd comment, but that was it.
When I looked in the mirror after he said I was ready, I saw myself wearing a black body suit. It was shiny and looked like rubber. It zipped up in the front. My hands were gloved and there was a little thing in my palm. When I pressed the button, glittering pyrotechnics flew up. I was told not to press the button until I'd been in the city circle for five seconds. The headpiece I was given looked like a glowing ember and it created a circle of light around my head. My bleach blonde hair was tucked into my body suit. I wore bright orange leather boots that didn't do anything except be orange.
When I was pushed out to get on the chariot, an image flashed through my mind. A race. I don't remember anything else. I shook my head. This was a dream, and it would all go away in a little while. I looked and saw Leo giving a slip of paper to the girl from District 4. Calypso. I had the strangest sense of déjà vu.
When the chariots finally started parading through the streets of, what's this place called again? The Capitol? Whatever. People lined up on the streets cheering. The boy from District 11 was whooping and hollering and jumping around his chariot screaming stuff like, "OHHH YEAAAAAHH!!!!! DISTRICT 11 FOR THE WIN!!!!!!" Man. This guy makes Leo seem calm. His district partner, Zoë, just stood there with her arms cross, her body completely and totally still. I couldn't help bursting out laughing. Neither could Leo. We almost forgot to activate the pyrotechnics. We pushed our buttons and raised our arms high over our heads. Firey glowing particles sprayed from our hands making the crowds scream and go crazy. I smile smugly.
My head starts throbbing again. Ahh. It hurts. The tributes' faces flash through my mind, but not as they are. Not as they were at the reaping. I don't know when.
Everything blurs together and I'm laying down. Im in a pristine white room. Dizzy. Something is going in my arm and my chest. I'm only there a second before I return to The Hunger Games. But my hearing is all wrong. I can tell everyone is cheering really loud, but it sounds really quest and far away. Like they're miles away. Even when the old white haired man starts speaking. I can't hear him. His mouth is moving and everyone is watching attentively, but all I hear is a small buzz.
What the heck is going on here?
