What's a Creepypasta? Well, let us enlighten you...

Have a seat, the sun is setting and soon it will be dark... there is much to tell before our 'friends' come lurking about...

So, you want to know what Creepypasta is, hey?

Horror and fan fiction had a baby and it was named Creepypasta. It started on the internet where various people drew inspirations from creepy images and horrific legends, they created short user stories and these were copied, pasted and passed around the net with the sole intent to scare the reader.

It's hard to determine when exactly Creepypasta originated as users tended to remain anonymous but it had been speculated to have started in the early 1990's. Creepypasta is a portmanteau word meaning it's a blend of two or more words. In this case it's the words creepy and copypasta (copy paste).

So, what makes for a good Creepypasta story?

Well, they are usually short stories in nature, written to scare or chill readers to the bone, and shared on the internet. However, there are known Creepypasta characters and most stories are based of off an existing character but it's not unheard of to create a new Creepypasta character. These stories are often filled with gore and paranormal elements, so they ain't for the faint of heart. Oh, and they are fictional, or are they?

Since Creepypasta is found on forums or horror sites it's common for it to be written in text, blog or email format as if it was submitted by a user. That said, it's also mostly told from a first-person perspective - "This really happened to me, I promise" - yes, most are claimed to be 'true' stories of a horrific encounter or traumatic experience - this just aids the scare factor.

It's a bit unclear which inspired which but these alleged 'true' stories are often accompanied by some chilling image - a slightly out of focus snapshot or a very low-quality video. This additional visual stimulation somehow validates the text, even if it's out of frame and low resolution. Point is, if you want to up you creepypasta's believability you need to add some creepy images.

Who are these infamous Creepypasta characters we keep talking about? Well, let's look into some of the most popular ones...

Jeff the Killer is a creepypasta usually accompanied by a picture of a white face looking into the camera smiling in an unsettling manner. The creepypasta is also usually accompanied by the term "Go to sleep".

Slenderman is a freakishly tall and slender humanoid with tentacles, a ghostly complexion, and no face... He will stalk his victims, taunt them and mess with their minds. He is know to especially victimise children. Whatever you do don't look...

The Rake is a pale, hairless, humanoid creature that has a nasty habit of sneaking into your room at night and watching you... If you make up it's black hollow eyes and shrill screams will haunt you relentlessly. 

Laughing Jill was once a girl's best friend but after she lost her friend and everything she loved all her color turned dark and she went insane and turned into...well, a killer.

There are more...many more but we simply don't have the time to go through them all. Besides, haven't you noticed how dark it got, the sun is gone so night is upon us...

You look a bit scared, I won't go around voicing any more names of the Creepypasta family...they tend to come when they hear their names. Not unless you want to play...

Oh, don't fret...we do like a good scare but we also know where to draw the line. Our Creepypasta stories are well within the realm of Wattpad content guidelines, so you won't be too traumatized.
