IT ALL STARTED when they were kids. Athena Malfoy was exploring Grimmauld Place and had to duck into a random room after hearing her mother calling for her. Coincidentally, Sirius Black happened to be sulking in there, and despite the initial scare, the two became friends.

But Sirius rebelled. It was obvious, judging by the Muggle snacks had with him in his room. He scoffed and insisted their parents' ways were stupid and evil. He was clear on where he stood; anywhere his family weren't. The opposite end of the spectrum.

Athena was somewhere in the middle. On one hand, she couldn't disagree with Sirius, but how could she ever go against her parents? Her family, her older brother, who was her role model. How was she to see them as unreasonable and wrong? It was easier to play along, easier to just agree with their ways.

Yet Athena was curious, and found herself indulging in Sirius's rebellious acts. Her parents didn't trust the young Black heir, she could tell, but they let it slide.

Until Sirius Black got Sorted into Gryffindor. They couldn't have an outcast as a playmate for their daughter.

Unbeknownst to them, Athena didn't cut ties with Sirius. At least, not intentionally.
