23: Adrien's Fiancé

"Owww! What was that for?"

Adrien stood next to Marinette, clutching his right arm. While he pouted and rubbed his arm, trying to soothe the pain, Marinette stood beside him, fuming with anger.

"You did WHAT? Are you hopeless? You-you reckless idiot!"

"Reckless and hopeless only for your love m'lady." He winked with a cheeky grin, only to earn another glare from Marinette.

"I hate myself for never noticing that you were Chat all this time." She muttered angrily, despite having an evident blush on her face. She was trying to make sense of everything that was happening right there.

After their unexpected and heart warming reunion, Adrien explained everything to a confused Marinette, about how he got here, what happened to her and why she was here.

"Bridgette doing all of this was clear to me from the start. However, it all being connected to the kwagatama is new." She mumbled.

"The kwagatama was sucking away your energy and Bridgette was using it as a means of her own source of energy. She is just a spirit so she kinda needed it to exist. That kwagatama linked you to her that's why it was easy for her to track you and send you over here." Adrien explained, watching her closely.

"And how come Tikki doesn't remember her?"

"That I'm not entirely sure of, but Plagg and Bridgette said something about removed memories. So I'm guessing that the previous master had something to do with it."

"And if you're here right now, then where is Felix? And how are you in full control?"

"Well.." he trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Unlike you, I was aware of this. And unlike you, I swapped with Felix. You however, joined with Bridgette. That is why you're in a coma like state back home. And that is why I'm in full control. Sooo..

Felix should be in my body right about now."

"You're a reckless idiot you know. What if she was trying to trick you? What if you ended up hurt? All for what? I would've come back once whatever this is was over but-"

"No." His sudden response caught her off guard and his solemn expression made her bite back her retort.

"That's the thing Marinette. You stuck here, it's harmful. Fatal even. You risked corrupting yourself as Bridgette. And I cannot let that happen."

"So no matter what ever I have to do, if it is to save you then I would gladly do it, everytime."

He was now holding her hand, peering deep in her bluebell eyes. She was wonderstruck before realising what was happening and hurriedly looked away, blushing like a tomato.

Looking for any escape from the moment that happened just a couple of seconds ago, she instead looked over to Tikki, who was listening to the exchange with as much attentiveness as Marinette herself.

"Well then.." she began, still trying to calm her frantically beating heart.

"If..if Plagg could sense that you weren't Felix, then why couldn't Tikki do it?"

The little bug kwami looked down, her eyes bearing a look of concentration. Finally, she sighed and began.

"I suppose..it was because you were already there when Bridgette was entrusted with me. So I couldn't really know her as a whole. You were always present. Also I think, that because you both are kind of time travellers with miraculouses, you are able to see each other as what you actually look like."

"I still can't believe that the situation between those two would've gone down in such a way. Who would've thought?" Plagg voiced out loud.

"Yeah.." Tikki agreed.

"So we'll be changing the past, I suppose?" Marinette began uncertainly.

"Yeah, for the better." Adrien assured her, gently squeezing her hand in comfort.

Marinette was waiting for Adrien on the bridge yet again, staring off into space. Yesterday, they had been together for almost the whole night, talking, teasing and laughing. It felt so good to be herself again. But she knew that it could change anytime, as Bridgette was still there, now her being in the suppressed state as she had been.

'I promise Bridgette, I won't let you become a Fallen.' She thought, smiling to herself.

Footsteps were heard and Marinette whirled around, ready to greet him with a smile. However it wasn't Adrien.

Bridgette's sad excuse for a mother stood in front of her instead, her eyes filled with anger, hatred and malice.

"You!" She sneered, painfully grabbing ahold of Marinette's arm.

"You disgraceful child! Running away? After all that I've done for you?! Despite you being that other woman's filth? This is how you show your gratitude? By disgracing the name of the entire LeBleue family?"

Her grip was becoming painful by every proceeding second and Marinette tried hard to twist out her wrist from her iron grasp.

"Let go..let go..agh.."

"You will come back with me this instant! And you will marry Dan! Try and even say a word against it, and it'll be your last word, I swear."

She then began dragging her away with her until another hand grabbed Marinette's other arm, but it was gentler.

The woman turned around in surprise and came face to face with the hindrance, her face becoming instantly blank.

Adrien stood behind Marinette, holding her protectively, giving off an intimidating aura.

"May I ask what you're doing, with my fiancé?" He asked coldly.

'Fiancé'? Adrien's fiancé? Oh my god!'

"F-Fiancé?" Mrs LeBleue repeated, with surprise. Then she immediately masked this momentary surprise with her cold expression again.

"She already has one, kid. I don't know what lies this witch has fed you, but she is already engaged to someone else. Now run along, while I deal with my daughter here."

Adrien smiled coldly and Marinette could only imagine how Felix would've looked with it. The mere thought was enough to get shivers down her spine so she was quite surprised when Mrs, LeBleue didn't even bat an eyelash.

"The only person running along would be you madam. Please do so before I take extreme measures."

She scoffed, eyeing him.

"And who're you to threaten me?"

"Felix Bronn. Surely you must know what I'm capable of now?"

Her eyes widened and her grip on Marinette's wrist loosened. Adrien noticed it and tugged at her, walking away.

They were about a street away from her when Marinette finally spoke up.

"What was that?"

"A little something called acting bugaboo." He winked.

"That was far to real.."

"Perks of having a famous father. I never like it, but I have picked up some tricks up my father's sleeves. Guess they finally came in handy today. Besides, it was totally worth seeing you blush like crazy."

He laughed while Marinette punched his arm lightly in embarrassment

"Sh-Shut up! I just wish that we knew who called her here. Plagg had really no ideas?"

"No, he told me everything that he knew."

"I'm so glad you're the one that's here." She sighed. "I can't even imagine how it would've been if Felix.."

Whatever she had to say, she could never complete it. For a huge, black, malicious creature stared down at the both of them from the roof of a house, ready to kill.
