Mattheo runs out of the great hall—well not really ran but, he leaves so quickly it's like he was never there. I look around the table and everyone is staring at me "I'll be right back," I whisper, leaving the great hall.
Right outside the large doors is Mattheo. He's crying. Sobbing. His hands are tangled up in his curls and he's breathing so heavily and quickly that his chest moves up in down 100 times a second. Shit, he's hyperventilating.
I stand on my tippy toes and pull him into a hug by his neck. I feel his arms wrap around my torso and his head moves to the crook of my neck, he squeezes me—not tightly enough to hurt me though. A throat clears from behind us and once I look over my shoulder my face turns pale. Shit. Shit. Shit.
Cedric.
He's angry. Really really angry. This cannot be happening right now. Are you kidding? God this day can't get any worse. Not even for me—for Mattheo. He pulls my arm and pulls me off of Mattheo. "What the hell is wrong with you?" Cedric screams.
This is when I start to panic. Shit does he know? He can't right? I mean it's just a hug, a hug means nothing. But what if he does? What if he tells everyone? What if he tells Dad?
I take a breath and decide to change subjects "We have a sister," I whisper. It's not the best thing to say—it's probably the worst. But, it's the first thing that came to my mind.
He laughs though. Cedric lets out a full-on laugh—putting his hands on his knees as he does "Are you—Are you CRAZY? We don't have a sister." he yells—loud. Really loud.
I start to get frustrated with him, "Oh really? Go inside the great all then. Go on, do it."
Cedric stops his laughing and scoffs, rolling his eyes "Why were you hugging Riddle—and is—" he pauses and squints at Mattheo "Holy shit is he crying?"
Mattheo turns away so Cedric can't see him and he wipes his tears away. "He's sad—and it's not any of your—"
Cedric cuts me off "I'm tired of you saying that shit. It is my business Aurora. You are my business."
I started to get really angry. Who does he think he is? Yes, he's my older brother, but that honestly gives him no right to tell me what to do. It sure as hell doesn't require me to tell him everything. "But he isn't," I yell and point to Mattheo. "Rory—come on, calm down" Mattheo whispers to me.
"No!" I yell, "I'm so tired of you" I turn my attention back to Cedric "I'm so tired of you acting like you control me. Like I'm a doll you play with. It's bullshit. I'm not a baby Cedric and it's time you stop treating me like one."
Cedric frowns and his face turns red in anger. Before he can respond I whisper "Go to the great hall, Dad's waiting for you."
Cedric shakes his head "You have to come to."
I scoff "I was just in there, I'll be back in a second."
Cedric looks back and forth between Mattheo and me for the longest time before walking into the great hall. I let out a sigh once he's gone and I turn to face Mattheo. His gaze softens "I'm sorry." he whispers.
"No, no no no don't ever be sorry about that—about him." I grab his hand and intertwine our fingers. He shakes his hand "But I am, we shouldn't have to hide our relationship."
I sigh softly and close my eyes. Breathing in and out. First through my nose, then out my mouth. It helps me calm down. Eventually, I open my eyes again, Mattheos still looking down at me with a sad look—his eyes still glossy. "I know" I pause and shake my head "But we have to—at least for now. Eventually, we can tell people slowly but—"
He cuts me off "But your brother already knows."
I let out a frustrated sigh "No. He doesn't."
He lifts his brows "What do you mean No?"
I let go of his hand and cross my arms "I mean that he only saw us hug. Hugging doesn't equal dating. Not even close."
He puts his hands back into his curly hair before letting out a groan. "I can't believe she's alive."
Wow, that was a quick topic change. But, my anger and frustration fade in a split second. I look up at him and tilt my head slightly "I know, I don't—he never—"
He shakes his head and gives me a warm smile before wrapping his arms back around my waist and pulling me into a hug. "It'll be okay, we'll figure it all out. I think I hope."
I close my eyes and take his cologne in. I take him in. It's kinda surreal that I feel this way for him, that I could ever feel like this with him. He feels like home.
After a couple minutes I mumble against his chest "Yeah, we'll figure it out."
I look up at him "Do you still not remember anything from that night?" He shakes his head "Nothing."
"Maybe it was real," I say
He lets go of me and backs up a bit, he stares at me in almost shock "What? Are you—i-insane?!"
he stutters "Didn't you say she said—you told me—"
I shake my head "That doesn't mean anything. She could've lied to you. But, her being there was real."
Mattheo frowns slightly. "But she never used to lie. To me."
I lift a brow "And how do you know?"
"She made a promise to me, we made one together. That we would never lie to each other."
"She could've been lying by saying that."
He scoffs "Madison isn't evil Aurora."
I laugh "When did you ever hear that come out of my mouth? I never said she was."
He shrugs "Just by your facial expression, you so hate her, and for what?"
I scoff and cross my arms "Oh I don't know maybe she said I killed my mom? Oh wait sorry our mom. Because apparently, we are sisters."
He's silent I nod "Speechless now?"
He shakes his head "Just give her a chance...I doubt she's dangerous."
I scrunch up my nose and shake my head "No thanks I'll pass."
He sighs "But—"
"Stop." I say sternly "I can't—"
Mattheo moves closer to her and puts his hands on each of my cheeks. He moves so close that our lips are brushing against each other. "I don't want to fight—okay?" He whispers against my lips. "I'll be careful around her okay? I promise."
My anger once again fades and my stomach swarms with butterflies "Okay—it's just, she—I don't—"
he cuts me off "I know," he says softly "I know Angel"
He leans into me and our lips meet. He softly kisses me and I don't move. I'm scared to. I'm not sure what to do. It's my first kiss, with Mattheo—with any boy a matter of fact.
Eventually, my hands make their way into his hair and I'm kissing him back. Our lips moving in sync. But—like always. We are interrupted by clapping. what now?
Mattheo and I quickly break the kiss and we turn to see Madison standing there with a grin on her pretty lips. "I'm so happy to see you Matty," She says sweetly, even her voice is angelic, everything about her is beautiful, angelic, sweet—perfect.
I feel a weird sensation in the pit of my stomach, as I turn to face Mattheo. But, he's not looking at me—his eyes are locked on hers. His jaw is tightened and his hands are still placed on my hips. "Maddie," he says, no emotion coming from his voice, even if his eyes show them.
"So I see you've taken a liking to my twin sister, I'm not surprised, we are pretty alike after all." she walks up to us. Once she reaches Mattheo she takes one of her curls, twirling it with her pointer finger "But, safe to say I was born first, so you sorta stole my face sister," she turns to me with a smile.
I bite my tongue and look away from her to keep from saying a word. "You said you were an only child when we met." He says "You lied."
"Well," she sucks her teeth "That was before the promise. And I didn't lie, in my muggle family—I was an only child."
He shakes his head "So when we met you knew everything—"
She cuts him off "About you? Yes. Once I heard your last name I knew immediately. Riddle. Kinda goes good with Madison right?"
His breath hitches "I thought—" his voice cracks and he finally turns to me, meeting my eyes. My gaze softens at the sight of him and I wipe his tears that fall with my thumb. After a couple of minutes he clears his throat and focuses back on Madison "I thought you were dead." He says lowly.
She grins "I was."
She what. What the fuck is wrong with this girl? "what?" I finally say, my voice high "How—"
"I was dead, now I'm not" she laughs
"But how—" Mattheo asks, her eyebrows furrowing
"You'll see," she grins "You'll help your father like he helped me—"
He cuts her off "What are you—"
She shushes him, putting her hand on his cheek, "Oh, Matty—you are in for a real treat. A dark, sweet treat."
