Chapter Twenty Two

Alina sat cross legged on the bed as Sylvie recounted what all had happened and what she had seen. When she got to part about the clones numbers and names Alina subconsciously reached up to rub her forearm. She had multiple scars from her time as a slave but the one on her forearm was the worst one. The others might fade and heal over time but this one wasn't going anywhere. A constant reminder of the slave life she'd once lived.

The Hutts liked to mark their slaves, give them numbers. Force them to denounce their right to their own names, one of the only things they kept. That didn't stop some slaves however. They would call each other by their true names in whispers when they were alone. They would secretly name their children if any of them had them. The punishment if you were caught however was severe.

Her own mother had been one of those slaves, naming Alina once she'd been born. After Gardula lost them to Watto they were allowed their names again and it was certainly not out of the good of Watto's heart. It was only because the Hutts liked being the only ones to do that to their slaves. Maybe it made them feel better about how revolting they were, deluding themselves into thinking that they were all far better than everybody else.

Her grip around her arm tightened as fury shot through her. "Alina" Sylvie's voice snapped her out of her thoughts. "Uh yeah? Did to say something?" She asked. The Jedi knight shook her head "I was asking if you were paying attention"

"Sorry. I was just... Thinking" Alina muttered, dropping her hand to her side, pretending to not notice the look of concern that Sylvie gave her. "As I was saying, if Zafi is telling the truth than our assignment just got much more complicated" Sylvie said "We don't have the faintest idea as to just how many bounty hunter trainers there are but considering the scale of this operation they must be large in number" Obi-Wan said. "But who hired them all?" Alina asked "Was it the Kaminoans or Jango Fett or Master Sifo-Dyas? Or was it all of them?"

The question never had the chance to be answered as a buzzing noise sounded suddenly. Sylvie moved towards the door which slid open to reveal Taun We. "Jango Fett is ready to see you now" she said. Sylvie glanced back at Obi-Wan who kept his eyes trained on the door and Alina who sat up straighter, alert and curious.

She looked back at Taun We and nodded "We will be outside with you shortly" she said curtly, closing the door. The three Jedi exchanged looks but didn't say anything. What was there to say? This meeting would either prove fruitful or would further extend the time of their investigation.

The door slid open again and Taun We stepped to the side as the three Jedi exited the room. "Follow me please" she said in her usual pleasent voice. The trip down the long hallways of Tipoca City passed in silence until eventually they came to a stop in front of a door. Taun We pressed a button next to the door and a muffled sound of a buzzer sounding inside could be heard, shortly followed by small rattles as locks came undone.

The door opened slightly and a clone stood in the doorway, arms crossed. Alina blinked in surprise, recognising Boba. The clones were identical but she'd been around him long enough to differentiate his force precense from the other clones.

She wasn't as sure if he recognised her. She sure hoped he did or she might be slightly offended that he'd forgotten her and half an hour of terrible shooting and banter this quickly. If he did recognise her he showed no signs of it. "Boba, is your father here?" Taun We asked. "Yes" He responded curtly, an edge of suspicion in his voice as he glanced at the Jedi.

"May we see him?" The Kaminoan asked, her voice patient as ever. Boba looked like he half wanted to say no "Sure" he moved out of the doorway, allowing them to enter. Alina stepped in, resisting the urge to look around. Boba led them into what appeared to be their living room. In it, an Amoran sat comfortably on the couch, arms spread out and boots on the table as if this was her own room.

Spotting them, she straightened, raising an eyebrow as she removed her feet from the table but her body language was still fairly relaxed. "Oi Jango! You have guests!" She called before turning back to them.

"Nice to see you again" The Amoran said, looking straight at Sylvie. "Likewise Zafi" Sylvie said "I didn't expect to see you here" Zafi only shrugged "Jango's a friend. Didn't realise he had an appointment with you Jedi right now" she said but made no move to indicate that she planned to leave. The shuffling of feet drew their attention as a man walked into the room. It wasn't too hard to guess at who he was, he looked like an older version of Boba and he was identical to the clones albeit he had many more scars on his face.

"Welcome back" Taun We greeted "Was your trip productive?" She asked. The Jedi exchanged glances at her words. "Fairly" Jango responded, his gaze shifting to the Jedi. "These are Jedi masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sylvie Kryze. And this is Jedi padawan Alina Skywalker" The Kaminoan introduced. "They've come to check on our progress"

Alina watched the stare off between Jango and Obi-Wan and Sylvie and Zafi which was quickly getting awkward. She offhandedly wondered if she should start one with Boba if only to make things less awkward for her. Force knows how Taun We was acting so oblivious to it. "Your clones are very impressive. You must be very proud" Obi-Wan said. "I'm just a simple man trying to make my way through the galaxy" Jango replied. 'Great. More vauge answers. If every bounty hunter is like this we're going to be here a while' "Ever made your way as far into the interior as Coruscant?" Sylvie asked

"Once or twice" The bounty hunter said with a small shrug. Alina bit back a comment. "Recently?" Obi-Wan asked, eyes narrowing. "Possibly" Jango said. "I have a question" Alina raised a hand "Are you capable of not giving vauge answers for five seconds?" She asked before either of the other Jedi could stop her. Boba gave her an odd look, Jango simply raised an eyebrow, she could have sworn Zafi's lips twitched up a bit and both Obi-Wan and Sylvie looked like they were regretting their decision to not insist that she stay with Anakin on Naboo.

Good. The Jedi Council decided to try and seperate her brother for the sake of a stupid rule and she was about to make it everybody's problem. Sylvie cut her an exasperated look "I'm sorry about the Padawan, she tends to speak before she thinks" she said. Just then Alina caught a glimpse of something silver out of the corner of her eye. She lightly nudged Obi-Wan who followed her gaze but neither of them could make out what it was probably before a knife whizzed past them and struck the controls of the door which caused them to spark and shut, blocking view of whatever the silver thing had been.

"Don't be so nosy Jetti" Zafi tutted, leaning back on the couch again "Stop ruining my buttons Eso" Jango scowled. "I'll pay for new ones" She dismissed, pulling another knife out of force knows where, throwing it into the air and catching it again. Sensing all eyes on her still, Zafi paused "I know I'm gorgeous but please, continue whatever you were doing" she drawled before she started fidgeting with her knives again.

Obi-Wan turned back to the clone template "You must know Master Sifo-Dyas" he said. "Master who?" Jango asked. The two Jedi knights exchanged looks "Sifo-Dyas" Sylvie repeated. Alina tried to pick up any sense of recognition from the two bounty hunters and Boba but could sense nothing but confusion from all three. "Never heard of him" Jango said. There wasn't a single flutter in his pulse. He was telling the truth.

"I was recruited by a man named Tyranus on one of the moons of Bogden" He said. "Just curious is all" Obi-Wan said, a hint of annoyance in his eyes. "Do you like your army?" Jango asked. "We look forward to seeing them in the battlefield" Sylvie replied cooly "Thank for your time Jango" the three Jedi bowed their heads slightly as they turned to leave. "Always a pleasure to meet Jedi" Jango said, matching Sylvie's polite tone.

"He's hiding something" Alina stated out once they were out of the room and out of earshot "Yes, he is" Obi-Wan agreed. "You think he might be the killer?" She asked. It was Sylvie who replied "He's on the suspect list but he isn't the only one on it" she stopped, looking the Padawan dead in the eyes

"You need to be careful around him and Zafi. The unaltered clone as well" she warned. Alina nodded silently. ...Sylvie was not gonna like how she'd spent half an hour of the time they'd been exploring.

The ending wasn't my usual one and I'm sorry, it was kinda bad but I didn't wanna drag it too much.
