Chapter Thirty Seven

During the scene where Anakin beheads Dooku there are some small spoilers for The Clone Wars and for the Dark Disciple novel. If you want to avoid them just don't read the underlined words.

NOT THE JEDI WAY

The four Jedi turned to face the Sith lord that entered the room. "This time we will do it together" Obi-Wan muttered. That was directed towards Anakin. "I was about to say that" he muttered back. They watched as Count Dooku jumped over the railing of the balcony, somersaulting in the air as he landed. Alina raised an eyebrow, dramatic much? "You sure your back is still intact old man?" She called. After all, mocking one's enemy before a fight was tradition. "Skywalkers, so arrogant" Dooku tsked. "Get help. You're no match for him, he's a Sith lord" Chancellor Palpatine said. Obi-Wan turned to him "Chancellor Palpatine, sith lords are our speciality"

He turned back to the Count. The four Jedi dropped their robes on the floor, taking their lightsabers off their belt. "Your swords please. We don't want to make a mess of things in front of the Chancellor" Dooku said as he approached them. "You won't get away this time, Dooku" Obi-Wan said before igniting his lightsaber, the other three Jedi ignited their lightsabers as well. Count Dooku ignited his blade "I've been looking forward to this" he said. "My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count" Anakin said. "Good, twice the pride, double the fall"

Neither side wasted time before they struck, blue and orange lightsabers clashed against red. The Chancellor could only watch as the Count masterfully countered their attacks. He used the force to push Obi-Wan away, going up the stairs, still deflecting hits from the other three Jedi. He stuck out a hand, sending the younger Skywalker flying onto the floor below. Alina ignored the pain, quickly getting back up to her feet. Two droids moved to block her and her master's path as they attempted to return to their fight with the Sith.

Alina used her lightsaber to cut one of the droids in half while Obi-Wan deflected a blast that went through the other one. As they rejoined the fight, Dooku used the force to shove Anakin onto the ground, Obi-Wan was flung against a metal railing before falling to the ground, unconscious while a platform fell onto the Lowe half of his body. Sylvie was flung across the room, hitting the metal window frames as she thumped to the ground, she too was knocked unconditionally. Alina had landed next to Obi-Wan, other than her brother she was the only conscious Jedi.

Wincing slightly at the pain in her spine due to being flung at a wall, she got back to her feet, using the force to lift the platform off Obi-Wan, Anakin seemed to have Dooku handled just fine. She would have thrown it at Dooku had her brother not been so close by. Alina crouched down next to Obi-Wan "Master! Master wake up" she tried to shake her Master out of unconsciousness, but he didn't move. Alina huffed "Master, Obi-Wan, wake up. I'm not sure for how long the force is going to be on Anakin's side" She shook him more vigorously.

Alina looked up, hearing the sudden absence of lightsaber clashing. Anakin had both his and Dooku's lightsabers on either side of the sith's neck, ready to cut it off. Just a little away from them she saw Sylvie start to stir. "Good, Anakin. Good" Palpatine praised, a smile on his face "Kill him. Kill him now" The gazes of the conscious force sensitives immediately snapped to the Chancellor as he gave that order. Alina frowned as she saw Dooku give a pleading and frightened look not to Anakin but to the Chancellor.  "No, Anakin don't" Sylvie said, pushing herself up.

"Do it" Chancellor Palpation ordered, all humor gone from his face. "Don't listen to him Anakin, it's not the Jedi way" Sylvie said, giving the Chancellor an incredulous look. Conflicted on who to listen to, Anakin turned to his sister, a silent question in his eyes. Alina hesitated, looking between Palpatine, Sylvie, Anakin and a wide eyed Dooku. It wasn't the Jedi way but... she thought of everybody who had died in the clone wars. Of Fives, Boil, Echo, Tup, Kix and every clone she had ever worked with, every oppressed world. She thought of every innocent life that was taken, every friend she'd lost. She thought of Ventress, she thought of her mission on Zygerria.

Alina gave her brother a nod. She spoke through their force connection "Do it" The galaxy would be better without somebody like Dooku in it. Anakin sliced off the Sith's head before turning off the lightsabers. Both Skywalkers were aware of Sylvie staring at them. Neither met her eyes. "You did well, Anakin. He was too dangerous to be kept alive" Chancellor Palpatine said. Sylvie frowned as she got to her feet "With all due respect Chancellor, the execution of an unarmed prisoner is not the Jedi way. Nor is it something you should be encouraging"

"She's right, I should not have done that" Anakin said as he freed the Chancellor. "It is only natural. He cut off your arm and you wanted revenge" Palpatine assured the older Skywalker as he got up from the chair. "Revenge is not the Jedi way either and it is not something that is to be encouraged" Sylvie told him sharply. "My apologies Master Kryze but we must leave before more security droids arrive" The Chancellor said as he hurried towards the exit.

Anakin crouched down next to his sister, helping her to lift up Obi-Wan. "There's no time, we must get off this ship before it's too late" Chancellor Palpatine said. "Leave him, or we'll never make it" he urged Alina scowled at him while Sylvie gave him a cold look. "His fate will be the same as ours" Anakin's voice left no room for argument.
