I pushed Chief back behind me taking another few energy crystals for them, I dealt with the pain as much as I could.

A large energy shield appeared around us, I began to feel the effects of the poison but I took no notice as I turned to Chief and the general.
"What were you thinking!!!" John stressed pulling out a few crystals before they could finish draining into me, I took my helmet off and smiled at him then turned to the general.
"When I give the signal both of you make a run for it, I will finish up here," I demanded, they both saw they couldn't talk me out of this and the general would need protection on the way back to the warthog. I smiled at John before putting my helmet back on a turning around, I readied my gun and gave a long deep sigh.

I demanded, I heard Scarlett give a sigh when the shield dropped. I began shooting at the covenant as Chief and General Davis made for the warthog, I threw my last grenades and dodged to the side to escape oncoming energy crystals. After I knew Chief and the general were safe I dodged behind cover, I began to grow dizzy from the poison that ran through my blood. I shook it off and blindly fire from behind cover, I couldn't risk any more hits from those dastardly needles rifles. I suddenly heard more gun fire erupt from the trees as back up arrived, I gave a thankful sigh and grunted as I tried to move. A two medics managed to make it over to me while the arriving marines provided covering fire, they began to pour clorofoam onto where I had been struck. I gritted my teeth in pain as it stung and fought the poison that ran through me, I heard a scream as an elite had snuck around and shot one of the medics in the head. I aimed my pistol which I had left on my leg at the elite and shot the entire mag until I hit it square between the eyes, I felt a hand touch my shoulder and my teeth grinder with pain. I looked up to see John had come back for me, he helped me up as we staggered towards the pelican which made to take off as we entered. He sat me down on one of the seats and I groaned in pain, it's not every day you get shot by covenant multiple times as usually they hit you square in the head which killed you instantly. Ever since our armour had been made they had begun to grow smarter, aiming for our necks and joints where the armour didn't cover our body at all so we could move easily.
"You are such an idiot Caden! I almost lost you!" John began to panic, I removed my helmet and threw it to the ground.
"That's my job," I chuckled weakly, John took off his helmet and sat next to me worry covering his face. He held our heads together and I slowly felt the poison slowing down, it would eventually be destroyed by the clorofoam but it still hurt like hell.
"Please don't scare me like that Caden, I can't lose you, I almost lost you once and that scared me enough, I can't lose you again," he almost begged, I looked him in the eyes and never have I seen such emotion on him. I pulled him into a deep kiss which made him relax slightly, we pulled apart as the pelican suddenly shook and began to spiral downwards.
"Fuck we've been hit!" The pilot warned as we continued to plummet downwards, we quickly put our helmets on before we suddenly crashed and everything went black.

I awoke to being choked by smoke, I looked at the wreck and noticed Chief limping over towards me. I knew the pilot was dead since the cockpit was on fire, John helped me up and we began to limp away from all the smoke together.

I gave a groan of pain as John set me down beside a tree far enough away from the burning ship that I was able to breathe fresh air, John sat beside me and we watched as the pelican began to melt from the heat of the flames. I wondered what had shot us down, it had to be a grunt or a banshee. I watched as a large purple air craft flew over the wreckage, I knew it didn't see us as the smoke hid us pretty well. I took off my helmet to cough and breathe, John did the same. We were now stranded on Reach, just perfect. I turned on my coms just for the sake of it, I fiddled around with it until it picked up Infinity's station.
"Can anyone read me? Hello? I anyone there?" Came a staticky voice, I fumbled around to put my helmet back on.
"Hello? I read you Infinity, this is spartan 113, we were struck down by what seems to be a banshee, please send help we need immediate assistance, I am sending you our coordinates now," I explain, I sent them our coordinates and stood up grunting in pain.
"Woo finally got a response, sending evac now, hold tight we are on our way spartan 113," Came a relived reply, I looked beside me to John who was on the verge of passing out from inhaling too much smoke. I put his helmet back on him and picked him up, he was weakening by the second if he didn't get some medical help immediately. I almost collapsed as I felt the poison taking over me again, my eyes widened as usually clorofoam stopped the poison and got rid of it. Then it hit me like a bullet to the head, this wasn't any ordinary poison the crystals had been an almost greeny colour. I saw another pelican flying overhead and waved at it, we were finally up on the highest point I could get us to as the pelican began firing at the banshee that flew nearby. John had long since passed out and became ever so heavy in my arms, the pelican finally landed and I dragged Chief onto it as medics rushed to help us. Once on board they took his mask off and began to give him fresh air and some water to clear his throat of all the ash, I sat down on a chair next to them my eyes never leaving him. After what seemed like forever we finally arrived back on Infinity, I was walking off the ship when I felt myself collapsing. Marines and medics rushed to my side having heard of what happened from the general, I was helped to med bay where they laid me down on a bed and I slipped into unconsciousness.
