I awoke to alarms blaring, I quickly put my shoes on and joined the others at the door. The doors swung open and we rushed out into the hall, I saw John run out with a few other boys but he was quickly at my side making me chuckle. We were soon all crowded into the hall when the alarms stopped, finally there was quiet.
"Cadets please make your way down the hall to the cafeteria," came a robotic voice, we all began to move some shoving past eager to get their share of food before others. I rolled my eyes as an extremely rude boy shoved past me, John sent him deadly glare making me shove him gently. He looked at me and smiled before we finally arrived in a large open room which seemed to be the cafeteria, after grabbing our food we sat down at a table with our new friends.
"Hey John, who's your girlfriend?" One of them sneered playfully, John put his arm around my shoulder making me blush slightly but I kept eating trying to ignore it.
"This is Caden, and she isn't my girlfriend, be careful of teasing her because she will and I repeat, she WILL kick your ass," John chuckled taking his arm away from around my neck, everyone began to laugh.
"We will see about that won't we, I can't wait to see both your faces when I'm on top of the leaderboard and trust me I will be up there in about a day," the boy chuckled, I sent him a teasing look making his gaze turn from confident to confused.

We soon finished our food and were handed a schedule on where we had to go for the day, I looked at mine and saw I had squad training first. John luckily had the same as me and we began to navigate the halls until we ended up in a large room filled with obstacles and gear, we headed over to a medium sized group of other kids who were also waiting.
"Children listen up, you are going to be divided into two teams, team A and team B, you will each try to capture the flag, I want to see communication between each of your team members, one team will be defence for the flag while the other tries to capture it, after either the opposite team is shot down with pain bullets or the flag is captured you will bring to flag to me and I will hide it somewhere else, the teams will then switch rolls, now move out!" The soldier ordered, I gave an unhappy sigh when me and John were put on opposite teams. I was part of team B with three boys and two other girl whom I didn't know, my objective was to capture the flag. We were each given an assault rifle with paintballs in it, I double check mine before we began to move.
"We should attack from two sides, they won't expect that plus we can easily distract one side and sneak in then grab the flag," I suggested, the others nodded after we decided who would distract. We began to move silently, I guessed someone would be up in a tree somewhere so I kept my eyes looking up every now and again. Soon I felt like we were close and I signalled to my team who nodded, we knew they had the radar so we had ditched our helmets so they couldn't find us meaning we didn't have a radar ourselves. I quickly ducked behind a bush when I noticed John sitting almost invisible in a tree, if it wasn't for the fact the leaves rustled I wouldn't have seen him. I heard shooting and running nearby and his attention moved from our direction towards the sound, I quickly hopped out of cover releasing a few rounds of paintballs into his vest causing him to fall out of the tree. My half of the team nodded and we raced for the flag, I grabbed it and held it up in the air.
"Round one over, point goes to team B round two begins in five minutes," came a robotic voice, Team A joined us on the walk back. Most of them had paint on their vests showing that my team had been better at shooting, we soon went back into the arena with a different objective. I sat in cover near the flag making sure it was in my sights, I giggled at the thought of John if it came to hand to hand combat. Soon everything was quiet, I picked up enemy signals and knew they hadn't even bothered taking their helmets off. I aimed my rifle towards the oncoming signals, suddenly I felt something inches from the back of my head. Off in the distance I could hear shooting and knew my team was in trouble, I stood up slowly and turned around to see John. I gave him a smile which made him look confused, that gave me enough time to kick his weapon away and shoot him. His face was filled with shock and I laughed,  then I heard something behind me and gave an angry sigh as a team A member was holding the flag.
"Round over, point goes to team A," came the robotic voice again, John punched me playfully on the shoulder as we walked back.
"Well done teams now let's do something different for the remainder of the lesson, this time I will pair you up and you will fight your partner in hand to hand combat, whoever beats their partner moves along until there is only one remaining champion, now Robert you will fight Caden, John you will fight Zack, Kimberly you will fight Adrian, Blake you will fight Hailey, Brianna you will fight Faith and finally Harry you will fight Joseph," the commander ordered, I went over to a tall boy with grey hair who I assumed was Robert and we moved off to our own fighting space. I turned to face him and we circled each other fists ready, he attempted to charge me but I tripped him over and pinned him down. I began to punch him until he held his hands up in defeat, I grumbled at how easy that was and moved off to my next partner.

Finally it came down to me and John who hadn't even cracked a sweat, I smirked as we circled each other patiently. Everyone looked on in anticipation, John made the first move by zig zagging until he was within hitting range. I dodged out of the way kicking out but he caught my foot and shoved it away, I growled and we began to fight. I would throw the punches but he blocked them all, he then began to throw punches but I blocked them easily. This went on for about half an hour before finally we both stepped back and accepted that it was a tie, the commander gave us an interested look before we were sent back to the cafeteria then to our rooms. I climbed onto my bed and took my shoes off, I fell back exhausted before curling up and going to sleep.

Ok so I know this is part of master chiefs story only I changed it up a bit, Caden (me) and John are best friends as said in the first chapter who knew each other since they were very little, they were taught the basic fighting skills by their fathers before they joined the army on earth and sadly died in their second war.
