Extra #3: The Future Leaders
Hi everyone, SK here.
This will be the last Extra, just saying it upfront. I had originally planned for more but I can't publish that now due to them having spoilers for the sequel. So while this will be the last "story" part for this book, there are more exciting things to come, trust me. Yes, this means the sequel is confirmed.
One thing I will say though, read carefully, and you might find some things that are important. This one's a long one!! Be sure to read to the end ;)
Also, thank you so much for 8K.. like wow, it's been quite a journey for this book I have to say. At the time I'm writing this you guys have added another 300 reads to that total.. what can I say, you guys are all awesome people, and thank you!!
Anyway, without further adieu, let's begin! I hope you enjoy this Amour fluff.
Serena
I don't know how time can fly by so quickly. Really, I don't.
One year I was the Kalos Queen. Another, Leader of the Light Fairies. Another still, Ash and I saved the world and announced our love for each other.
Six years ago on this very date, I gave birth to my beautiful son and daughter.
I still remember it all too clearly... well, obviously of course some of it went by in a blur. It wasn't exactly painless. All I remember of the actual birth was me screaming, Ash trying to hold my hand while he was eating something, and Layra saying that Heliux was also stress-eating. While it wasn't painless, it also wasn't a complicated birth, which I'm grateful for.
No, it was the moments after they were born that will be ingrained in my mind for all eternity. I hugged them close to me, and I felt the softness of their skin against mine. Their beautiful infant cries filled the air and it was like listening to the most talented symphony. Ash leaned in close and we were all there, the four of us, the perfect little family. Their tiny little fingers, their cuddly teeny toes, their adorable baby cheeks; all of it was perfect to me. No, all of it is perfect to me... even if they've grown up.
Verity is almost the spitting image of Ash, both looks-wise and personality-wise. Her hair is an extremely dark shade of brown; it looks black normally, unless she is standing near a bright light. It's short and spiky on the ends, just like Ash's hair. She has the same skin-tone as Ash also, and she also inherited his bright grin and his willingness to accept any challenge. One of the things I love most about Verity are her eyes. She was born with something called heterochromia; what that means is that each of her eyes are a different colour. Her right eye is a chocolate brown while her left eye is a calm cerulean blue. Both of the twins also inherited Ash's unique birth marks; Verity has a small zed mark on her left cheek, and her brother has one on his right.
Verity loves Pokemon. Her brother does too, but my daughter is almost downright obsessed with them! She's always talking about how she and her future partner are going to beat every single fairy, including Ash and Heliux. I smile to myself as I think towards that upcoming date. Ash and I agreed that we would take them out to get their first Pokemon when they turn ten, just like how it happened for us.
August is a lot more soft-spoken than his sister. I've noticed that he's particularly shy, but he will come out of his shell when he's near someone he trusts. He'll do it around Ash, Verity, and I, but surprisingly he also likes spending time with Heliux? Okay, when I put it that way it sounds like I'm being overly skeptical about his friend choices. It's just so shocking to me... Heliux doesn't really strike me as the kind of person to like hanging out with kids, but he hasn't made any attempts to push August away. Ever. Recently, he's been looking strained whenever August approaches him, but I just blame that on him being tired. I think it's kind of cute to see the little toddler clinging to him like that, and Layra definitely shares my opinion. He's full of questions, and when I say full, I mean full. He's a curious little cutie.
While Verity looks more like Ash, it's clear as day that August received his looks from me. He has a pair of beautiful blue eyes, and a skin-tone that's similar to mine. He has a similar hair colour to mine, though it fades to a darker brown near the ends; it's also far more wavier than mine. August is also very protective, even at six-years-old. One time when Verity hurt herself after she tripped on something and fell, he stood in front of her and didn't let anyone near her. Of course, we were trying to heal her, but August had convinced himself that she was going to get more hurt than she already was. He loves his sister so much. They're so close, and I love that. Although, I do admit that it gets a little annoying sometimes whenever they choose to act particularly mischevious.
It's not just us, the entire colony loves having the children around. They definitely brighten up the atmosphere and they bring smiles to many faces just by running around, playing, and just being innocent kids.
I tie my blue ribbon in my hair and sigh fondly. I love those two little ones. After taking one last look in the mirror, I nod to myself. Good to go!
I go to leave my room, but not before grabbing the twins' birthday presents. I approach Ash's door, which of course is right next to mine, and with my remaining hand I open it. I expect to see him with the kids, because they were supposed to be with him, but he's here alone.
"Morning," I say, kissing him on his cheek. "Where are August and Verity?"
"Good morning," he says pleasantly. Ash then has a confused look on his face as he shrugs his shoulders. "Um... weren't they with you?"
"No," I tell him while taking deep breaths, "because I was getting ready and they were supposed to be with you."
Ash gulps. "Well, I checked their rooms and they weren't there, so I just assumed that you had woken them up-"
"WE NEED TO FIND THEM!" I practically screech. My mind instantly goes into full panic mode. Are any other fairies awake? Of course they are, it's almost ten in the morning. Would Heliux and Layra know? It's not their job to watch the twins, it's ours-
"Calm down," Ash says, noticing my panic. His Necklace sways side to side as he stands up and places a steady hand on my shoulder. "There's nothing that can harm them here in the fairy forest. It's not like they could've found The Route," he adds, then shifts his gaze. "Do you think they found The Route?"
I bite my lip. The Route is the path that leads from dimension to dimension; in this case it leads from the fairy world to the human world. Legendaries use it to deliver new fairies to their home. All of us know where it is of course, but it isn't used that often because humans could discover it and things could end badly for us. It's very hard to locate, but August and Verity are very determined little toddlers.
I lock eyes with Ash and without another word, we bolt through the hallway, down the stairs, and out of the building. I even forgot to leave the presents in Ash's room thanks to the rush. "August!" I call out, while Ash calls out Verity's name. We must look very flustered, the first-time parents who've lost their children. It almost makes me feel embarrassed, but my worry for the twins surpasses that feeling. Lita, where are they?
"Guys, calm down," Layra says from behind us. We both turn instantaneously to see her smirking face. "Heliux and I found them this morning. Come on, I'll take you to them."
"Where are they?" I demand.
"Mallow's place," she answers. "I'll just say that she was not amused... I, on the other hand, was very amused."
Ash gulps from beside me. I heave a sigh. I really don't want to punish them on their birthdays, but...
As the three of us walk over to Mallow's Diner, I notice something Layra's hiding behind her smile; discontent. I've been noticing it in her and Heliux for the past couple years now, a little after August and Verity were born; the slight twinge of sadness hiding in their eyes, a sudden sullenness and slowness that wasn't there before. I've talked to them, Ash has talked to them, heck, both of us have talked to them. They don't tell us anything. I sigh. Perhaps they just need some time alone, but if you're still feeling down for years on end, we're here to help you two! We don't want you guys to be upset.
Layra flinches. I'm not sure if she heard me, but I hope she did. You need to hear it, Layra.
She doesn't say anything, and remains quiet when we get to the restaurant. "They're in there," she says, pointing to the kitchen. Ash and I thank her and head inside to see quite the sight.
Verity with a silver-coloured bowl on top of her head with what appears to be cake batter dripping down all over her and the floor, and August covered in flour and eating sprinkles out of a jar with his hand.
The moment they spot us, they look up at us with the sweetest most innocent expressions on their faces. "We were making cake!" Verity exclaims brightly. "Birthday cake!"
"I got the sprinkles!" August adds proudly, showing us the half-empty jar that must have been full when they first came in. "We were going to add loads of sprinkles."
Verity nods her head up and down. "Lots. But August started eating them!"
The child rolls his eyes. "At least I didn't spill all the batter on my head, Stupid."
Before I can interject about name-calling Verity has something to say. "Who're you calling stupid!?" she tosses the bowl on top of August's curly hair, coating them in whatever batter was left in the bowl. August looks up angrily, and looks about ready to toss that jar at her.
Ash and I quickly get between them. "That's enough," I scold. "Baking is dangerous if you don't have an adult with you, you could've gotten yourselves hurt."
"But we didn't," protests Verity, eyes round. "But August called me stupid!"
"Because you were," he says simply.
Ash looks at both children sternly. "We don't call each other mean things," he says. "August, what would you feel if Verity called you stupid?"
"Bad," he concedes, then instantly looks guilty. "Sorry," he says quickly, his beautiful blue eyes round with fear. He's always been one to fear doing bad things and the consequences of those bad things. He looks like he wants to speak up but doesn't, so he fiddles with his fingers instead.
"That was good," I encourage him. "Verity, do you accept his apology?"
"I guess," she sniffs, crossing her arms.
"Now, why were you two down here by yourselves?" Ash questions.
"It was Verity's idea," August says quickly. "She said since it was our birthday then this year we should be the ones to make the birthday cake, so we did."
"The birthday girl and boy don't need to make their own cake," pipes Mallow's voice. She enters her kitchen and tosses a stern look at the two kids. "Not when they've got a master chef to make one for them."
"And apologize to Mallow for dirtying up her kitchen," I tell them.
"Sorry," they say at the same time, their rounded eyes staring at Mallow nervously.
The chef's stern look transforms into a warm one. "It's okay," she says cheerfully. "Why don't you two get cleaned up, have your breakfast, and if you're good, you might just have a big birthday cake waiting for you later today."
"Cake cake cake!" the twins chant, jumping up and down. "Daddy, I want cake!" Verity squeals, leaping into Ash's arms. Of course that gets cake batter all over him, but he just laughs and hugs her close. Verity is definitely close to Ash. She's a daddy's girl.
"You'll both get some," he promises. "But let's get you both cleaned up."
The twins nod and the four of us walk back to our rooms so we can wash them up nicely. I don't need two six-year-olds covered in cake batter for the day, that can only end badly. On the way back however, I pause.
"Ash, can you take care of them? I want to speak with Heliux for a second."
He looks at me skeptically. "You really think you're gonna get through to him? And why today of all days?"
I shake my head. "He doesn't have to talk if he doesn't want to. I just want to let him know that I'm there for him. I think Layra knows that, but you know Heliux." Then I look at him. "Sweetie, you know that I've been going to them basically every day now."
He chuckles. "That I do," he agrees. "Alright, I'll take them. Who's ready for a bubble bath?" Ash exclaims excitedly to the twins.
"ME!"
I smile as they walk upstairs, and I go to find Heliux. I should be with my children on their birthday, but both Ministers have been occupying my mind a lot recently. What could have happened to make them feel so down? I know sometimes things just happen, but there must have been a cause, right?
I knock on Heliux's door, and to my surprise, he opens it after the first knock. "Yes, Your Lightness?" He's been acting more formal now too. Is acting formal his coping mechanism for whatever he's coping with?
"I just wanted to say-" I cut myself, catching sigh of something behind him. "What're you working on?"
On a dress mannequin behind him sits a magnificent ball gown. It's sleeveless, though I see some purple attachment that might function as some sort of sleeve. The gown itself has three layers, each a shade darker than the last, all coloured in a blue-ish silver. The bottom layer is almost black. The fabric of each layer bends and is shaped beautifully, and the edges are lined with different coloured little circle embellishments. There is a purple ribbon belt along the waistline, similar to what I've seen with Layra's dress.
Heliux looks behind him, sees what I'm referring to, then looks back at me. "Nothing."
"Doesn't look like nothing to me," I tell him, a small smile beginning to form on my face. "Did you make it?"
He nods, looking uncomfortable. I didn't know Heliux could sew. Then again, I didn't know Heliux could do a lot of things. Still though, it's beautiful. Layra's going to love it.
"It's so beautiful," I compliment. "Layra's definitely going to love wearing it!"
He smiles sadly. "You've got it all wrong, Your Lightness. This dress is not meant for her."
I become confused. "It's not for Layra? Who is it- is it for me?" I ask hopefully. I would love to wear a gown as beautiful as that one right there. Maybe I can take it when he's not looking...
He shakes his head. "Sorry to disappoint you."
"If not Layra, and if not me, then who's it for?" I question. I rule out the other fairies because Heliux doesn't really share a close enough bond with them, as far as I know.
He smiles slyly. "This dress belongs to someone very dear to me, and when the time is right, I will gift it to her."
What?
"If you don't mind, I still have to work to do on it," he says suddenly. "Is that all?"
"Y-Yes," I stutter, too confused albeit a little shocked at his statement. He shuts the door with a soft click! and as I head up the stairs, all I can think about is this mystery person. Who could it be?
I don't want to search my brain for answers, that'll take way to long. All I know is that that dress is so beautiful, too beautiful to just be sitting there in his room like that. It looks like a dress a Queen would wear.
As I approach Ash's room I begin to hear his happy laughter along with the kids'. Another smile comes on my face, but this one for a different reason. I push the Ministers out of my mind and enter Ash's room to be with my family. Perhaps I worry to much. They should know by now that Ash and I are there should they need help. I'm spending time with them, when I'm missing out on the moments that really matter.
I enter the bathroom to find August and Verity in the bath tub, playing with bath toys, while Ash scrubs the batter out of their hair. There are bubbles everywhere and nothing but pure joy exists here. Thank you, Lita, for blessing me with these little angels.
"Magikarp, use Splash!" Verity explains, taking the Magikarp toy and splashing it in the water.
August looks at her skeptically, a Pikachu toy in his hand. "Splash doesn't do anything!" He looks at me. "Right, Mommy?"
I nod. "What a smart boy you are."
Verity becomes angry at this statement. "Hey, I'm smart too you know!"
"Of course you are," I add quickly. "You're the smartest girl I know!"
"Apparently not smart enough to know that Splash does nothing," August mumbles under his breath, but Verity catches him.
"I'll show you what doesn't do anything!" she yells, then splashes a huge wave of water at her brother. He, of course, retaliates, and Ash gets in between them before they break out into a splash war. It's happened before and it ended in tears, so we avoid that now.
"All right, you two seem all clean for me," Ash tells them while gesturing to me to get some towels. I grab two big, white, fluffy ones and wrap the twins in them. After about twenty more minutes, both of them are dressed and ready to be out in the world again.
As we leave, Verity and her keen senses spot the presents that I had abandoned earlier. "Are those for us!?" she squeals excitedly.
I nod, giggling a bit. "Yes. You'll get them after your cake."
"Where are we going now, Mommy?" August asks, eyes round. "Can me and Verity go play?"
"Actually," Ash answers, flashing a look at me, "me and your mom are going to take you two somewhere special today."
The twins look to me for verification with excited expressions, and I nod. "Yes! I almost forgot. We're going to take you two to see the ocean."
"Where all the fish Pokemon live!?" Verity asks. "Like Magikarp and Goldeen?"
"What about Horsea?" August asks. "Are there Feebas and Poliwags too?"
"I hope Lapras is there!" Verity exclaims. "I wanna see a Lapras."
"What about a Milotic?"
"I wanna see that too! I also want to meet a Gyar-"
"Yes, there's a good chance that you'll meet a lot of those Pokemon there," Ash says calmly with a small smile on his face. "If we leave now, we can be back by lunch time. Do you two want to go?"
"YES!"
I grin. "Well, I guess we better get going then!"
The four of us head outside and see Clemont. I tell him that we're going out to spend some time with the kids, but not specifically where; luckily, August and Verity don't spoil this information. Technically, Ash and I have already been out of the Colony once this year... but this is an exception. I think. Okay, I can't really make exceptions, but just this once I will.
He nods and wishes us well, and we exit the Colony. This must be the second time that the twins have left the Colony at all; we took them once to see Mom and Delia when they were newborns, but apart from that we agreed that it would be safer for them not to leave. On top of that, because we have to be here at all times to watch them to make sure they don't get into trouble. We could have other fairies watch them while Ash and I spend some time for ourselves, but those two always find a way to get into trouble, no matter how innocent they seem, and it's just easier to be here. Six years... six years since I've seen the outside world.
Once we're in the forest, Ash makes a portal to the human world. We could just fly, but August and Verity don't have their wings yet, and they're getting too heavy to carry. I sometimes ponder about what their wings will look like, but I'll have to wait fourteen more years to see them.
Verity and August are eagerly chatting away as we step through to the beach; luckily, there are no people here. "Where are we?" I ask Ash.
He seems to think for a moment. "I don't know," he confesses. "I just thought of the beach, but I can't remember the name."
"That place looks cool, can we go there?" Verity exclaims, pointing to an island on the horizon. From what we can see of it the island has multiple points sticking out of it, with a single tall tree in the center. Verity has a point, it definitely looks interesting.
"Maybe another time," Ash muses, glancing at me for approval. I nod back at him.
August approaches the shoreline, and with a tentative stance, he places his hand in the water. He jumps back instantly, squealing. "It's cold!"
"Really?" Verity runs up next to him, puts her hand in as well, and has a similar reaction to her brother. "Daddy, the water's too cold!"
"I can see that," Ash says, looking mildly amused. He looks at me, and we share a smile together. "Should I make the boat?"
Shaking my head, I answer him. "No, let me."
Using my magic, I form a small fishing boat right before the twins' eyes. It's the colour of sand and bobs up and down against the waves.
August and Verity try to climb into the boat but the walls are too tall for them. Ash and I walk up to help them on, and once they're safe and sound, we both fly into the boat. Using a little more magic, I propel the boat forwards at a lazy pace. Both the twins are peaking over the sides of the boat to try and spot some aquatic Pokemon, although we have to hold them back from tumbling off the boat.
"Look, there's a Wailmer over there!" Verity says in an excited tone, pointing to somewhere far ahead of us. "Hurry hurry, I wanna see it before it goes away!"
"Alright," I say, adjusting the spell. "Hold on!"
The boat zips forward, making the twins squeal in delight. "Faster, faster!" pipes Verity. Giant waves are forming around the boat, splashing seafoam in our hair. Verity begins laughing which makes both of us smile. Our daughter's smile is priceless.
I make the boat go even faster, which is when August starts clinging to me. "Too fast," he whimpers. I kiss him on the head and bring the speed down, hugging him close. I think August may have motion-sickness, my poor baby.
Luckily, we have caught up to the Wailmer that Verity spotted a minute ago. Being fairies, it looks absolutely massive, but when it notices us it appears to be calm. When it's close enough to the boat, Verity reaches her hand out and touches the Wailmer's head. The Water-type makes a happy-sounding noise then dives underwater again. I really hope we don't run into a Wailord out here.
"Bye, Wailmer!" Verity shouts after it. I glance down at August, and he's beginning to look a little less queasy. Maybe we should leave soon. I don't want him to feel sick.
"Mommy, why did you bring us to the ocean?" August asks suddenly.
I look at him dumbfounded. "Didn't you two want to see the ocean?"
"Y-Yeah, but..." he trails away. "Why the ocean? Why not another special place?"
"Your mom and I promised that we would take both of you to see the ocean before you were born," Ash explains to them. "We wanted to show it to you because it's special, just like both of you."
"So you took us here because we're special?" Verity checks. "So we should bring someone special here too?"
"If you want," I tell her. "You can bring your Pokemon here, when you get one. Or you can bring your best friend!"
"August's my best friend, so it wouldn't make sense if I bring him here again," Verity points out, making my heart melt.
"Eventually, you'll make new friends," says Ash. "You can take them here."
"When I find the perfect friend, I'm gonna bring them here," August says. "I pinkie-promise." He takes his two pinkie-fingers and locks them together. He's making a pinkie-promise to himself. Adorable!
"Hey, aren't I the perfect friend?" Verity points out, turning backwards to look at her brother.
"You already came here."
"... I guess you're right- um. Mommy? What's that behind you?"
I freeze. "What?" I ask.
"Oh Zagan," Ash says in awe. "Oh Zagan."
"Um, what is it?" I press.
August, who's sitting right next to me, turns around. "Hello!" he exclaims happily. "Mommy, what Pokemon is this?"
I finally turn around and to my awe it's fricking Kyogre.
I'm speechless.
I don't dare move, the sheer size of the Legendary Pokemon almost making me quiver. I glance at Ash, who is also in awe. What is Kyogre doing here?
"Mommy?" Verity asks, sounding confused as to why we are acting like this. "What Pokemon is that?"
"That's Kyogre," Ash tells her breathlessly. "When we get back, both of you tell Heliux that you ran into Kyogre- he'll flip his top."
"What does that mean?" August asks, his eyes still locked onto Kyogre.
"It means that he'll be really shocked," I explain to him.
Almost as quickly as it arrived, Kyogre makes a graceful dive back into the depths of the sea. A few moments later I feel a drop hit my face, and when I look upwards, the sunny skies have been covered by rain clouds.
"I can't believe we just saw Kyogre," Ash says, still sounding in awe even though the Pokemon has vanished. "Serena, can you?"
"No," I answer truthfully. "What a moment."
A moment I was glad to share, I think to myself. I will always be grateful for Ash and the twins for keeping my life light. I look upwards and smile; even though it's raining, the skies have never been brighter for me.
That's the end of the chapter. I hope you enjoyed it! I know it was long, but it was full of Amour moments so I think it was worth it. And, I think you all have to agree with me that August and Verity are the cutest things ever. You'll be seeing more of them (grown up of course) in the sequel!
With that, I'll end it here- and yes, this really is the last part. Thanks for reading through these Extras, and I'll see you in the sequel!

I see you have scrolled past all the dots... well, I hope you enjoy what's up next.
This chapter is not finalized, and may be edited.
"We need to run. There's somewhere safe I can take you, but right now you need to run."
"He's chasing me... he's going to kill me!"
"You will never hurt her again."
"Thank you, thank you so much for saving me."
I wake up with a jolt, sweat dripping down my brow. Vague recollections of last night fill my mind, pieces of dialogue from what must have been the most insane night of my life. I fill my lungs with air over and over, until the scenes fade away and I am left with an uneasy peace. I stare blankly upwards, gazing at the soft-coloured birch of the room's ceiling. I sit up with a frown. My room doesn't have a birch ceiling!
In a flash I remember where I am. I'm not in my room, or even my world. Last night I was taken away by a fairy into his world, somewhere where I could be safe, protected. I went with him, of course I would. For almost a full year now he's been visiting me every single day, and we're like the best of friends. I trust him. August has done so much for me, and I love him for it.
Oh... did I just say that?
Well, I'm not one to take things back.
Last night was the first time I'd ever seen his face. He'd always hidden it from me; if I were to make a guess it's because he wasn't supposed to be talking to me, a human girl. I remember how he looked at me with those dashing blue eyes of his, his dark honey-coloured hair waving in the wind...
I just realized that I've slept the whole night in a hot guy's bed.
With a squeak I try to throw the covers off and leave the bed out of sheer embarrassment, but somehow I end up pushing myself off the bed instead. I roll onto the floor with a small crash, and I wince in pain. What a great way to start of the morning, Valerie.
I push myself off the wooden floors, rubbing my forehead a little bit. I brush some dust off my dress, which to be honest I'm surprised I slept so comfortably in it. It's a short white dress that comes up a little past my knees. There's a small line of blue around the edge of the skirt, neckline, and sleeves as well; a winding of purple ribbon is fitted around my waist to complete the dress. I glance over and see my purple flats sitting neatly beside the foot of the bed. I slip them on, my bare feet fitting into them snugly.
I take this time to walk around the room, wanting to explore a bit. His room is a lot different than mine. His room looks so mature, with a pale blue colour for the walls and a light birch wood for the ceiling and flooring. Mine, on the other hand, is a bright purple with Pokemon posters all over the walls-
Pokemon. Am I forgetting-
Oh my Arceus, Nombles!
Nombles is my Snom- no, sorry, Nombles is my Frosmoth. She evolved last night during my escape, so the fact that she's not a cute adorable Snom anymore still boggles my mind a bit. I search around for her Pokeball, and I see the Netball sitting on a nearby nightstand. I ponder whether I should let her out but decide against it for now. I want to get to know this place first.
I notice that there's a mirror nearby so I go to take a look at myself. As expected my hair is a complete mess. My long brown curls are all tangled up; I wince when I think about how long it will take to brush them out. I blink at my reflection, its violet eyes with golden flecks staring back at my own. I don't know how I have natural purple eyes; although it's possible, it certainly isn't common. Well, I technically know, because at least one of my birth parents would have had to have purple eyes, right? As for the gold, I'm not sure where that came from.
I let out a sigh. I keep telling myself to stop thinking of my birth parents. My adoptive parents are crap, so why wouldn't they be? All parents are just loads of crap. Or at least that's what mine have taught me.
In the mirror's reflection I see a closed window behind me. Wanting to see what's outside I go to open it, pushing the curtains apart. The sun blinds me temporarily, but when I can see again I am absolutely amazed.
Below me, above me, everywhere, there are fairies! Real, living, breathing fairies!
...
See you in the future.
