I watched Will as he winced, sitting down at breakfast that morning. We were seated at a row of picnic tables lined up to make quite the feasting table. No one else was awake yet because of course they hadn't been woken up at the crack of dawn. Here I was, munching happily on my chocolatey cereal, content with my sugar intake, which was necessary for my conscious chipper mood. I wondered briefly if Josie had the same requirements seeing how she was like me.

"So." Will started, breaking the awkward silence. "Is the food here good?"

I noted how skinny he was, it wasn't a normal skinny, it was an unhealthy skinny. I duly remember the four sandwiches he had consumed the first day I met him, a bird has got to eat and his time in the Lab had definitely left him underfed.

"Oh it's fabulous." I replied.

He sigh happily. "Ah, I can't wait to eat real food again, Genny said she'd cook something, I don't even know if she can cook, but I honestly wouldn't care at this point."

I pointed my spoon at him. "Oh she can cook, let me tell you, back at Gifted she would sometimes help the chefs in the kitchen and ho boy, you could tell the difference on those days."

He got a dreamy look on his face and that moment and sighed. I ingested more liquid sugar.

One of the tents held the food, there was a working, solar powered fridge and fire pit, all thanks to Chespin. I wondered where the eight year-old had run off to.

The huge wooden gates were pushed open, and Sabine walked through, she was carrying a dead rabbit.

"Hey look what Icie caught!" She waved it in the air in my direction.

I suddenly lost my appetite. "That's wonderful." At least I knew what kind of meat we ate around here.

A small chicken was scratching in the dirt by Will feet, he was looking at it with curiously.

Sabine walked over and sat next to me after putting the rabbit wherever they stored their prey, or whatever. I got the feeling there was a better term, I just didn't have the brain power to think about it this moment.

"Do you guys eat your chickens?" Will asked, sounding legitimately concerned.

Sabine waved a hand at him. "Of course not, we don't have a roosters, therefore if we ate the hens we would run out eventually, and that means no eggs. That's Cherry by the way you can pet her."

I couldn't imagine why a completely white chicken was called Cherry, but I decided not to comment. Will reached down and stroked Cherry, she looked up at him, pausing from her emersion in the dirt to stare deeply into his eyes. He laughed softly.

"They roll around in the dirt like that to get rid of ticks and lice and stuff. You could probably try it." Sabine shrugged.

"I'd pay to see that." I smirked.

Will looked indignant. "What? Me rolling around in the dirt?"

In our picnic table clearing, you could see all of the tents, Genny popped out of one carrying a stack of plates and some trivets. Behind her, Tyler followed, reluctantly holding a pan of eggs and a plate of bacon.

Genny greeted us and set everything up, before disappearing back into the tent for drinks.

"Wow that smells really good." Will drooled, inching closer and closer to the hot pan sitting on the trivet.

"Well it should be good because I helped make them." Tyler rolled his eyes. "Also, just because I happen to be standing around, does not mean I'm looking for something to do, as your girlfriend thought."

Will paused, and blushed. "My girlfriend? Genny? No, we're just friends."

Genny came back and poured everyone a glass on orange juice who wanted it, and sat down next to Will and immediately began fussing over him.

"Eat as much as you want, but not too fast or you'll regret it later." She pointed out, pushing a plate towards him.

"Well what about you?" He asked, chewing a small bite of eggs, looking to all the world like it was taking all of his will power not to gulp down the plate

"I'm not burning through calories a million times faster than the normal human." She ruffled his hair and started serving everyone else.

The gate opened again and Azmus walk in, shivering slightly and wrapped in a towel. He was followed by Icie, her white hair flying around in a huge floof.

"Hey guys, you gotta see Dylan he's so cool." She pushed the gate open.

"Galopante vieiras." Tyler squeaked, falling off his bench backwards.

I did a mental spit take, as I saw the kinda small, vaguely humanoid wolf, staring us all down with his cold yellow glare.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Will tense up as Genny whispered something in his ear. "Hey Dylan." He sighed.

"You speak Spanish?" I asked Tyler, who was dusting himself off.

He shrugged. "No, Tui taught me a few words."

I peered curiously at him as I realized the light, playful joking tone in his voice was gone. His long black hair covered most of his face as he sat back down.

"Are you okay?" Will asked, picking up on the tension.

Tyler shrugged. "It's nothing, drop it."

Dylan stalked off as we continued to eat our breakfast, with less energy than before.
