Pesky Girls

Genny thought she had already experienced the pinnacle of stress, and annoyance. She was wrong.

She had been locked away in this cylindrical prison for a bit over a a few days now. It was still only her and Gratuity, who insisted she be called by her nickname, Tui.

"It's what my family calls me, and since you're my friend you can call me that too." Tui insisted.

"Okay, sounds fair enough, my name's too long for most people to say anyway." She laughed.

    "Genny?" She questioned.

"My full name is Genevieve." She explained.

"Really? You must have interesting parents. My name roughly translates to mean gift."

Genny glanced down at the floor. "I don't remember my parents."

Tui's smile fell. "Oh, then where have you been living this whole time? Surely not here alone, I would have gone insane."

Genny shook her head. "There's a special school for kids like us, I was kidnapped just a little before you were."

"So that's where Will turned up, good, my mother was so worried for him." Tui shook her head gratefully.

There was a rough grating sound, and both of the girls were startled out of the deathly silence that they had become used to. Two very large men walked in, one holding a small limp little girl, the other barely straining to keep a tall, yet skinny boy who fighting hard from capture.

The first one dumped the little girl in one of the small cramped rooms and left. The other took hold of the boy's ankle, much to his protest and clicked a small band on it. Then pushed him roughly to the floor and left, the door sliding shut behind them. The young man in question had dull, short, blonde hair and was wearing the same white attire all of them had on. He seethed, then took one look at them before bursting out in anger.

"Where am I?" He demanded.

Genny pointed silently at the impossible-to-miss, giant letters on the wall.

He sniffed. "Speechless huh? I've never received a poorer welcome in my life!"

"Ha, welcome to the Lab wishbone." Tui snorted.

His face grew a dark red color. "Pesky girls, it was difficult enough trying to stay away from that sideshow freak on the way here, she's grotesque."

Genny stood up and walked calmly into the room with the little girl. She was wearing a white shirt that was a few sizes to big for her and long pants. The girl had long and curly brown hair and light skin with a dash of freckles across her nose. She was wearing a similar anklet to the one each of them had on. Genny had already figured out that messing with it earned you an electric shock. Other than that nothing seemed to strange about the little girl, who only looked about eight years old.

"That's extremely rude." Genny commented back.

"I'll say what I want and there's nothing you can do about it." He growled.

"Say that to my face and you'll regret it." She shot back.

"Oh yeah? I do what I want and you can't stop me."

She cracked her knuckles and raised her fists. "I warned you."

He tried to copy her pose but it was obvious he had never fought a day in his life. He tried to run at her with his fists raised, but at the last second she ducked and tripped him. She briefly felt his intense fear, her eyes turning purple. He went flying and hit his jaw on the concrete floor. She didn't feel sorry and when he spat out some blood and a tooth.

Genny smirked as this moments reminded her of one of her favorite songs. You got blood on your face. You big disgrace. Wavin' your banner all over the place.

"Ah, look what you did! Do you know how much it'll cost to have that repaired? When my father hears about this-"

"Your father is not here to protect you." Genny spat, fed up with this kid. "You better get used to the sight of your blood because you're not getting out of here anytime soon."

She waved her hands at the wall behind her. "This the Lab, where humanity dies. You'll be lucky if your father still recognizes you after this feildtrip kid."

He lay there breathing hard for a few moments, then wiped the blood from his mouth and stalked darkly off to his own room.

"Wow, you go girl." Tui offered her a fist bump.

She sighed. "Well, I'm not a pushover, that guy really ticked me off."

"Where did you learn to fight like that?"

"The school I told you about, I'm at the top of my class."

"Cool. Hey, let's go see if we can wake up the little girl." Tui suggested, peering around into the tiny room.

To their surprise, she was already awake and blinking wearily at them. She yawned and smiled adorably.

"Hello! My names Josie."

Genny felt her heart melt. This little girl was really cute.

"Nice to meet you Josie, I'm-"

"Genevieve Wallace." She finished for me.

She stood there stunned. Genny didn't actually know her last name, and it shocked her that this little child would assume something like that.

"I know stuff." She laughed.

Genny couldn't help but wonder what sort of talent that was. To instantly call upon knowledge like that. She liked it, this girl could be very useful.

"I have a feeling you and I are going to get along very well." She said.

The next morning was not a nice one. Genny woke up after being shocked awake. There were guards ready to escort the four of them to who knows where. She miserably followed them, dreading but obedient. The annoying boy from yesterday was grumbling under his breath but stayed far away from her. Josie had stayed close to Tui, she seemed worried, which worried Genny. Anyone who could summon knowledge and was anxious made her jumpy.

"Where are you taking us?" Tui asked bravely.

They didn't answer, she didn't expect them too. It wasn't their job, if the adults weren't paid to do it, they wouldn't. At least not here. Genny hoped they didn't do anything to horrible before she could figure out a way of escaping.

"What happened to Will when he was here?" Questioned Tui to her.

Genny had given her a brief run down, nothing to detailed. "They cut open his skull made it so he could read minds. It has it's downfalls, though, he gets bad headaches when he's stressed."

She smirked slightly when she saw the boy's eyes widen in horror. Serves him right. Tui looked a bit sick.

"What's gonna happen to us?" She whispered. Genny felt bad for scarring her.

"It won't be that bad, for most of us." Said Josie suddenly.

"What do you mean most of us?" She asked, scared.

Josie was concentrating. "I can't tell when I'm involved, but someone named Dylan is going to hurt, a lot, he won't be the same in the end."

I glanced up at the boy, who was eavesdropping so obviously it was painful. His face had turned the color of crisp white printer paper and was staring at Josie with wide blue eyes.

"Your name is Dylan?" Genny asked.

He opened his mouth to answer, the contours of his face twisted to look like he was about to insult her. He didn't, because he never got the chance. The procession line stopped. Dylan's eyes rolled back into his head as he slumped to the floor.

The last thing Genny felt was the haunting prick of a needle, then the sedatives took over and she melted into unconsciousness.
