il-sung is characterized and known to the others by his snappy nature. when he's not actively zoning out whatever the other's are saying and only paying attention when something worthwhile is being said, he's usually quite rude and demanding. if you pay attention, however, his demands are usually just to soothe his anxieties or calm the situation down so they could actually get somewhere in their 'discussions'. or, it's usually just to shut people up. it's never actually anything selfish, he just doesn't find the need to word things 'nicely' in their current situation. sure, it makes him out to be the asshole, but people listen to bluntness more than they ever do to niceties.

if you're extra observant, maybe you'd figure out that beneath all that anxiety and grumpiness, il-sung is not actually a bad person. he's blunt, yes, but he's never outright nasty to anyone unless they really get on his bad side (which happens when you're rude to him first, or if he just finds your voice unbearable). he wouldn't say he trusts or likes anyone in the group, but he can empathize with them and would be willing to work with them since they're all in the same situation. he wants to figure this out to help himself, yes, but by doing so, isn't he also helping the others?‌ that's how he views it at least. as long as you're not annoying, or loud, or crazy, he won't care about you.

honestly, if it hadn't been for their situation, il-sung might have actually been sort of tolerable as a person. he's not usually a grumpy person if he gets enough sleep. however, his insomnia's gotten considerably worse due to their situation (he doesn't actually know since he has no memory of the past, so maybe his insomnia's always been this bad). the stress, anxiety, and general confusion and apprehension towards the situation has taken a toll on his mental and physical health, making him grumpier than he would usually be. he lies awake every night thinking about their situation and being paranoid that something bad might happen if he gets a moment's rest, but in the morning he's too tired to actively pay attention and find out information about his worries, leading to a vicious cycle of cluelessness and paranoia. he wants to figure everything out, but he's just too tired to do so. plus, he's always zoned out (because the other's can't seem to communicate without shouting at each other or filling the conversation with fluff) or off doing his own thing (taking a nap, usually)‌ so while he's the most anxious to "solve the mystery", he's also one of the most clueless about the situation.

sleep; it's a love-hate relationship. il-sung has insomnia, which means though he craves sleep he cannot rest easily most of the time.

solitude; he finds the quiet more comfortable than the noise. but not too much, because then he'll get too deep into his thoughts.

bitter flavors; things like coffee, cocoa, and some alcohol.

dark colors; preferably black, but maroons, navy blues, and dark grays also work, with a tinge of white sometimes.

mysteries; he's quite interested in solving them, especially the one they're in now. if just to quiet the noises in his head.

music; it's the only type of noise he tolerates. he can listen to quite a lot of things but prefers things with actual lyrics.

piano; even though it doesn't have lyrics, he quite likes the sound of the piano.

voices; this one he'd never admit, but il-sung actually likes other people's voices. it's the first thing he notices about people and usually the thing that stands out the most. as long as it's not too shrill or too loud, he thinks they're quite nice, especially if it's quiet and in the background.

his insomnia; if anything, il-sung would love to be asleep all the time. instead, he's cursed with insomnia. it's the worst when he's tired but can't fall asleep.

certain noises; shrill voices are annoying, anything loud makes his ears ring, and the noises in his head are just bothersome. white noise should help him calm down, but it just makes him antsier.

notable navy; the annoying thing about him is that il-sung feels as though they would get along if only the other wasn't so overconfident.

their situation; he's the most skeptical of everything. he trusts his gut, and alarm bells are ringing about everything.

the others; they're annoying, and he can name one (or many) things about each person that makes him dislike them, but they're in the same situation as him so they're the only people he could maybe trust in this situation.

il-sung enjoys exploring in his free time. especially since the castle is new and unfamiliar.

he likes figuring things out. mostly because if he doesn't, it stays in his mind forever. puzzles, mysteries, people, they're all the same: just pieces that need to be put together.

sleeping. if he could, he'd always take the chance. usually, that means midday naps in the garden or the library or curled up by the window.

he seems to know how to play the piano and read sheet music. it's familiar to him, at least. probably from his past which he can't remember.

he remembers people mostly from the sound of their voice and is definitely an auditory learner.

his auditory memory is also quite good. he almost never forgets anything people have told him unless he was zoning out during it of course.

zoning out. believe me, it's a talent in its own right. he can zone out anyone and anything almost on command.

their situation; honestly? it terrifies him. it's so fishy that it's stupid to fall for anything, and his body knows it too (if his sleepless nights are anything to go by). his mind is constantly in a whirl because of it and he just wants it to stop.

at the same time, he's scared that if they find out what's going on, it'll be something much worse. or that something will happen if they pry too much. he's in an unfamiliar situation, after all. it's understandable to be scared of everything that's going on.

he's scared of falling asleep. that's one of the many reasons for his insomnia. or, to be more exact, he's scared of what could happen when he falls asleep.
