Taehyung woke up to nothing. There was no reason for why he woke up at half-past five in the biting winter, but here he was, removing the soft duvet in which he was tucked in by his boyfriend. Inhaling slowly, he ran a hand through Jungkook's hair and kissed his shoulder before walking out of the bed.

The fragrance of coffee filled his nostrils as he poured caffeine in the pan, but damn his head was hurting. He only wished for an okay night, where he wouldn't wake up at ass o'clock with a headache but unfortunately for him, past days have been like that.

He knew the reason behind this headache, obviously, but he liked deceiving himself better. Jungkook didn't know; Taehyung never shared his sufferings — a part of him that Jungkook wasn't fond of since the start. But in Taehyung's defence, this lack of sleep wasn't anything big. Not that he was used to sleepless nights, but again, nothing to make a big deal of.

Cutting through his trance, he yelped when the hot coffee fell on his hand. It wasn't the searing coffee that held his throat, but the flame of the stove which was unusually ablaze, almost consuming the pan. His hand trembled as he neared the stove to turn it off. His mind screamed to run away, but his body didn't comply. 'Fire — burn —,' these two words resonated in his head, past wounds coming back to life when he finally turned the stove off.

He shakily breathed out, palm clasped over the hot-red hand where the hot drink had spilled, skin clammy. His eyes were bloodshot, heart running erratically. He was so close to a nervous breakdown, but he bit his lip to suppress the cry leaving his mouth. For the time being, it seemed like better days were not in the cards.

Jungkook turned on the music player as they sat in the car, ready for work. Bobbing his head to the jazz song, he geared the engine, his one hand was holding Taehyung's out of habit.

"Where's your mind, mister?" Jungkook said, noticing the frown on Taehyung's face.

"Hm? Nowhere really," Taehyung replied, twirling a finger next to his temple.

"Sure?"

"Yep," Taehyung assured and flashed him a tender smile.

"Let's turn on some music," Jungkook started the music player, some soothing songs playing in the background. "When will you be coming back?" he asked.

"At the same time as you probably, so we can leave together."

"Great."

As they drove by in comfortable silence through the forest roads, the sky had surprisingly turned darker and the cover of tall trees only added to the twilight. The couple assumed it was because of the cold weather that ghosted upon them. It was all okay until they saw a figure in black-colored clothes standing on the side of the road, probably asking for a ride.

A figure they knew very well.

"Isn't that Minwoo?" Jungkook said, slowing down the speed of the car.

"What are—'' Taehyung wasn't able to complete when Minwoo launched himself at the car causing a loud sound to erupt and Jungkook struggled to stop the car, the noise of screeching tires hitting their ears.

"Are you fucking outta your damn mind?!" Jungkook seethed, getting out of the car. Taehyung followed.

"Taehyung, thank god you're here," he panted. His hair was dishevelled, sweat dripping from his temple even in the chilly weather.

"You could've died!" Taehyung shouted, face still morphed into shock.

"I don't care about that. Someone dear to me met with an accident and — please, I really can't find a taxi, just — please give me a ride to the nearest hospital," Minwoo's voice held desperation.

"You don't even care about your loved ones enough to be this bothered," Taehyung bitterly said.

"I — taehyung, just leave our grudges aside for today — just please," he begged.

Taehyung and Jungkook shared a look before sighing out loud.

"Let's just fucking get over with it," jungkook cursed before walking back to the car and shutting the door harshly after sitting. He pressed the horns loudly for Minwoo to get in.

"Thank you so much."

Minwoo's agitation piqued Taehyung's interest, and he was curious to know what had gotten him so worked up. The last time he remembered, he was absolutely irresponsible regarding his family. So this supposed loved one made no sense to him. But, keeping his curiosity aside, he was in no mood to strike up a conversation with him. Everything around him was already traumatic enough, and he had no desire to add to it.

They now drove in suffocatingly uncomfortable silence. Taehyung glanced at Jungkook and saw his face morphed in utter distaste. He took his hand that now rested on the side rest and cupped it with his. No words were exchanged, but Taehyung saw Jungkook relax.

It was like an uncalled transition. The air around them became stinky, like a sudden outcast of gloom. For no reason, Jungkook and Taehyung felt goosebumps rising, the cold air traveling through. Oddly, the road was deserted too, which was rare on an ordinary day.

"This is so weird," Jungkook mumbled.

Taehyung felt his lungs acting infrequently, and he found himself gasping for breath. "S-stop the c-car-" he choked.

Jungkook looked at him with horror-filled eyes, "Hey, what happened—" even before he could compete, he felt his body rolling down, his grip on the accelerator subsided, and his head hit the steering wheel.

The car had collided with the tree.

Everything was deafeningly quiet. The sound of wings flapping was nearly excruciating when the crows perched on the tree flew away. Taehyung looked up from his bloodshot eyes, struggling to remain conscious as he tried to call out for his boyfriend, but no sound emitted, making him lose all hope for survival while the airbag under his forehead started to deflate.

A lone tear fell from his eye, seeing Jungkook in his unconscious state, blood dripping from his forehead and splattering on the steering wheel. That was the last sight he saw before falling into a foreign slumber.
