It was icy dawn, the morning sun shining in the foggy backdrop of the sky. The faint chirping of birds filled the silent morning. Wintry breeze travelling to the north. Some abrasive knocks nearby awoke taehyung from his peaceful slumber who sat on the bed with rosy cheeks and squinted eyes.

Ruffling his unruly hair, Taehyung looked towards the source of the sound. To his surprise, it wasn't from the way that led to the main door but just beside him; the window.

With a heavy frown, he leaned towards the window and gasped when he saw fading footsteps on the misty glass panel. It wasn't just the footmarks that made him shiver, but their shape; human-like.

They lived on the fourth floor.

"Was someone at the door?" Taehyung flinched, body jerking up at the sudden voice.

"Hmm?" Jungkook questioned, pulling taehyung closer to place his head on his lap.

"No," Taehyung trailed and turned to look at the window panel again, shaking his head when the footsteps faded.

'I must be sleepy.' Taehyung thought. 'Wait—'

"You heard the knock too?" Taehyung asked, incredulously looking at jungkook.

Jungkook rubbed his eyes and rasped, "I did. Why?"

"When I woke up....someone was knocking on the window," taehyung informed, instinctively looking around the room.

"Huh? What do you mean someone?" Jungkook questioned with a subtle chuckle, flicking his chin lightly.

Taehyung bit his lip, "Leave it. Prolly my sleep talking."

Including their age, Jungkook and taehyung shared many things in common, their favourite one being the shared love for taking a stroll around nature. They lived in the town, very close to the city but far away from the pollution there -- a materialistic world of materialistic people.

So, just listening to the melody of insects, smelling the fresh floral fragrance of the blooming dandelions, and walking on the frosted grass together is what made their cold days warmer. Every day wasn't possible, but they tried.

"The weather's colder today," Taehyung stated, rubbing his palms together.

"Mhm, 'cuz it snowed yesterday." Jungkook retorted, looking around and waving to some neighbours while Taehyung smiled towards them.

"So, how was work?" Jungkook asked.

"It was fine, but the clients were so ignorant. Like, I was informing them about the specialties of the place and they were busy on calls." he rolled his eyes.

"That's mean. Guides aren't appreciated enough."

"I swear."

"And how do they even ignore you?" Jungkook added with a grin, fanning himself to prove a point.

"Shut up," Taehyung shook his head with a smile, "what about you?"

"Well, it was okayish. For starters, I finally completed the layout for the garden design."

"Oh my gosh, you were working on that for weeks!" Taehyung exclaimed excitedly.

"Yeah. let's hope it doesn't get rejected," he nervously said and taehyung poked his elbow.

"It won't, don't worry. You worked hard on it." Taehyung patted his back.

"Thank you," Jungkook giggled, "guess, we're gonna save some bills this month."

"Mhm. gonna be that rich couple. Kudos to working our asses off." Taehyung cheered, eliciting a chortle from the raven head.

"What are the laughs about?" Minwoo joined with a smile, acting ignorantly to how the couple's attitude changed after seeing him.

"Not about you apparently," Taehyung grumbled, despite the way he flinched.

"Of course. I'm not here to make you laugh anyways....Not an entertainer, you see."

"Let's go," Jungkook said, ignoring Minwoo and pulling Taehyung along.

"What's the hurry lover boy? Let's have a chat, after all, I'm meeting you for the first time, wait, second."

"Seriously, is this man dumb?" Jungkook snapped, pointing an aggressive finger towards Minwoo while looking at Taehyung in disbelief.

"Don't you understand we don't wanna talk to you or even breathe around you for that matter?"

"Won't you die if you don't breathe around me though?" Minwoo retorted.

"You're not funny, Minwoo," Taehyung clenched his jaw and ignored Minwoo's remarks as he walked away with jungkook.

"I'm sorry for snapping all of a sudden," Jungkook apologised as soon as they entered their apartment.

"Don't be, he deserved it anyway," Taehyung replied, heading towards the kitchen to grab some water.

"Mhm." He hummed, before sitting on the couch.

"He wasn't this way earlier, despite all the shit he did, he never talked this way. But again, maybe I never knew him," Taehyung drawled, rolling his tensed shoulders.

"We never know what goes in a person's head. After all, Who could've guessed he'd fake his death."

"Now that I think of it, did he not inform his family that he's alive?"

Jungkook shrugged, "Can't say anything in his case."

"I pity his wife." Taehyung voiced, staring at oblivion while drinking water.

"Taehyung," Jungkook cautioned, "Don't you dare overthink. We've come a long way from the past, we can't let everything ruin just 'cuz of someone who doesn't matter."

"Don't worry, I'm not overthinking," he assured, and walked towards the raven head, offering him a glass of water.

"I know exactly what you're thinking. So, don't." He stated, eyes following Taehyung when he sat beside him.

Taehyung sighed, "I'm trying not to. I swear," he said, placing his hand on the other's knee.

The assurance felt doubtful to Jungkook, but he knew taehyung had conflicts within. He understood him, but he also sensed the self-loathing guilt that was building inside him, once again. And in no way, he wanted them to walk down the same path as before. They've been through a lot together, and they deserved so much more than dwelling in guilt that isn't theirs.

"It looks like you're the one who's thinking a lot." Taehyung murmured, draping his arm over Jungkook's shoulder, and tucking his face in the raven head's neck.

Jungkook shook his head, "let's just watch a movie," he rasped.

"Okay," Taehyung replied, pressing his lips to Jungkook's temple.
