Chapter 19- Art is the Weapon

Fireball's POV

Ever since Dr. D died the other day, none of us had ever thought the same about the Killjoy community. Trying to compete with one another on that day got us nowhere. Thank God Val's former friends dropped him when they did... maybe it should have happened sooner? I don't know. But we have more people in the army now, at least.

We spent the past couple days recruiting other Killjoys by knocking on doors and giving them a hand in battle when needed, both lone and in groups, to join us in our storm of BLI HQ. All of them said "yes," and agreed to make protest signs, come up with chants, and train up their battlefield skills.
"We destroyed the drug lab a little less than a week ago," said Poison to everyone we recruited, "so they can't drug us anymore. This is our chance."
"Count me in!" exclaimed one of our recruitees, Sugarcoated Sabotage, when we met her. She was our last recruitee of the day. "Can I join you guys in making signs?"
"I would love that," Rainbow immediately answered to her. The two just looked at each other with smiles. "I love the look!"
"Oh my gosh, yours too! And your name is?"
          "Rainbow Radiator."
"It fits! I'll really be looking forward to the day! Especially with someone like you. You are so cool."
After a few awkward minutes of Sugar and my sister flirting, we finally drove back home for the evening and began making signs.

The next day, we got more recruitees for our army, and even found one base on our drive that had cans of spray paint surrounding the outside, almost toppled down like dominos. We stopped there, pondering on whether or not we should try using it to paint all over the abandoned base.
We all smirked at each other for a few seconds, then ran out of our vehicles, me still holding Kobes's hand, over to the base of spray paint cans. I picked up a can of orange paint and started writing, going wild.
Poison turned the radio on to Show Pony hosting, who was the perfect person to take over Dr. D's job because they had the same energy as him. And the music was just as great for spray-painting rebel messages on abandoned bases.
Ghoul had climbed to the roof of the base with Kid and with his green paint and wrote what looked like, "ART IS THE WEAPON."
That's how the rest of the day was spent, painting bases throughout the Zones with our new recruitees. Most of the time when we weren't painting and having fun and singing, we were fighting off more bad guys so we could paint more.

One larger base we came across, I painted even more than on any other. I painted my symbol, a fireball, and wrote "BLI WILL CATCH MY FIRE." And they will.
"THE SYSTEM IS POISONED," wrote Poison.
"BLI IS FULL OF SNAKES," wrote Kobes.
"YOUR GHOULS ARE NO FUN," wrote Ghoul.
"YOU ARE NO STAR," wrote Jet.
"WHY BE SO PLAIN WHEN YOU CAN BE COLORFUL?" wrote Rainbow.
          "YOU'RE GOIN' DOWN," wrote Kid.
"IT'S OUR TURN FOR SABOTAGE," wrote Sugar.
Soon enough, other Killjoy teams around us whom we'd recruited caught our attention and decided to do the same all over the zones. Where there was space on ours, they would vandalize it too. When there was no more space and we didn't have to kill bad guys, the scene turned into a party with the music turned up.
Our army now had over 200 Killjoys. A huge, colorful army of strong, brave, creative minds.

"I'm sick of waking up and knowing that I could die any second," said one, whose name I think was Lightning Lazer. We were outside near a few of the vandalized bases, with them, the team, and more of our army making signs on a table that we had brought outside from one of the bases the next day.
"Thank you for having us join together for this!" said who I think was Lazer's brother, Golden Airwave.
Kobes and I took a minute to look at everyone's signs that everyone would bring with them to our attempt at the final battle in a few days' time from today. We each made one individual sign, then one with two posts that we would hold up together on the day that said, "WE JUST WANT TO LOVE WITH NO LIMIT."
Love with no limit. The only limit to our love is the government and my parents, but it's a huge limit. The battle will be hard, but it will be worth it. Both of us took a minute to process the message, practicing holding it up together with our other individual signs.
Mine had a drawing of fireballs surrounding "BLI WILL CATCH MY FIRE." Then the battle already began, with many of our army groups fighting more Dracs and Scarecrows together. I stayed by Kobes's side, as we guarded one another from and warned each other of oncoming shots. Jet had taken over, along with Doctor Galaxy, as a medic.

But I noticed something interesting. The signs and vandalized bases seemed to scare away many of the bad guys. While it was us who kept them trying to kill us, the signs were powerful in trying to stop them. "Weak!" Poison yelled out to the ones scared away, before we fired at them too.
The battle ended with some laughs and a walk back to our homes for the night.
