Chapter 10- I Refuse to Answer

Just as the sun started to set, rain began to fall the closer we got to the city to save Kid. Only the people doing it to her knows what they're doing to her... only they know if she's even still alive right now or not.
I sat in the back seat between Kobra and Ghoul, worried about what this huge battle inside BLI HQ would bring. "Have you ever been inside BLI before, Fireball?" asked Poison.
"Yeah, once a few years back," I answered. "And it was because my parents dragged me on a tour of the place as if it was so great."
"Oh wow," said Jet, "that's classic BLI for you. Did they assume at the time that you agreed with them and that you were gonna work for them?"
"They sure did. I think it was Korse and my father who forced a pill down my mouth that day." I chuckled at the traumatic memory to avoid crying.
"Damn," let out Ghoul. "So it must be really scary to head in there now also."
I nodded my head, getting more scared by the second to walk into the place of one of my core memories. My breathing was heavy, and I looked down with my hands on my thighs to process the memory again.
"Hey," said Kobra, putting his hand on top of mine as I looked up again, "we got your back this time, okay?"
I smiled at him and nodded as a "thank you."

The building looked smaller than I remembered, probably because I was going in there to fight for a cause and not be forced into taking a pill or be silenced. Nonetheless, the five of us stood in a v-formation walking into the place with pride. As soon as we kicked the doors open, the fight proceeded and got even worse.
A tall woman with short black hair gave us the classic sadistic smile as we shot up the Dracs guarding the lobby. I stood against her in her dead eyes and asked, with gritted teeth, "where is Missile Kid?"
"Oh, sweetie," she sarcastically raised her eyebrows, "we can't tell you that."
Our team explored the lobby more as the battle continued, and then we found her anyway. She was hidden behind a desk, playing with a white toy train. The tall woman smiled at Kid, as she smiled back. What broke my heart was that she was oblivious to what more this company was capable of. She knows it's bad already, but not to the furthest extent.

Kid ran up into Poison's arms, and Poison held her tight for a minute as the rest of us fought the bad guys in the building. Eventually, they caught up to us and followed us up the stairs and through the corridor to another room, which was surrounded by tall windows and a group of Scarecrows guarding the fire escape door.
The battle continued, Jet taking Kid under his wing. The rest of us separated for the kill from each corner of the room. Korse caught up to us eventually and said to me, dead in the eye, "I know your real name, Fireball. I'll set you free if you tell me more about the real you."
"I refuse!" I screamed at him, threatening him with my gun. I got into a hand-to-hand fight with him at that moment, keeping an eye out for my friends as well. I ended it as soon as I saw Kobra about to be shot at while he was shooting at another Scarecrow.

Next thing we knew, Korse held Poison at gunpoint. His gun was at Poison's chin. That's when I stepped in to rip the gun from Korse's hand just as he was about to fire it. I aimed both guns at Korse, then shot his arms so that he wasn't able to use them.
Sweating but pumping with adrenaline, I fought alongside the team again. But I noticed Ghoul and Kobra lying on the ground, eyes closed.
I got down at their level in between them, tears in my eyes because I thought they were dead. But Ghoul opened his eyes... "play dead with us," he mouthed. I took the hint.

That plan seemed to ward off the remaining Scarecrows that Jet, Poison, and Kid hadn't already shot down. Before we knew it, the room was empty and we were able to sneak out. Jet and Kid ran out earlier, so the rest of us followed.
In the tunnel, the team was extremely impressed with my skills. "Damn girl!" Poison exclaimed. "You saved my life out there! AND managed to do something that none of us had ever done. Thank you!"
I shrugged with a smile. "You're welcome, Poison. And none of you had ever shot Korse before?"
"Nope!" exclaimed Kobra. "But girl you did it. We're no longer the Fabulous Four. We're the Fabulous Five."
I gave him a hug from the side, as I sat in the back between him and Kid. "I guess I'm way braver than I thought."
"You're just now thinking that?" Jet asked.
"We knew that long before you admitted it," Ghoul added.
          "I know," I gushed.
"You're the one who got us all outta here alive," chimed in Kid.

Truth is, I never did give in. I used my voice when silenced, and I trusted my gut. Of course, I give the rest of the team credit for helping me to get to this point, but those actions and quick thinking I've developed saved our lives. I did it not just for my best friends, but for the world.
