Twenty Six: Everybody Wants To Rule The World

A/n: Thank you for the support that I got from all of you!

Arima Kousei POV:

No matter how much I tried to keep Kaori away from her choice to become the new 'April',  I wasn't able to convince her to leave. She doesn't know it but I hate living as my uncle's heir. It was the most difficult position that I had ever been. My situation was more difficult than when I was very young but I understand everything that's happening in front of me, now. I'm growing fast in Las Vegas and I know, I'll become an adult here in United States of America rather than in Japan. I spoke more English rather than Japanese ever since I came here. I still remember speaking in Japanese but I may not be able to ever read a Japanese newspaper due to my lack of continued study on advanced Kanji. I can't stop Kaori if she truly deserves to be a member. If she will pass,  that meant we will be able to hide within my uncle's shadow. "Just so you know, Kaori, I am very nervous for you."

I took a long breath before I open the blue double doors of the meeting room where she'll meet the other ten members of the Inner Circle and also, my uncle, again. "I want you to stay innocent. It's true we've had very wonderful sex but I don't want you to see violence, yet."

She gave me a very beautiful smile as she replied to me. "You were obviously depressed when I saw you for what you are now. You need me and I hope they just let me stay near you."

I held her hands tight. "You don't need to be a member of the Inner Circle for that."

"Step aside, March. It's not just her who'll have the initiation today. If she doesn't pass the written exam, she won't go forward to the interview," she said as she point her gun at me. "If only I can kick your ass up, I'll do it but you're luckily Jupiter's nephew."

"Does that mean that I have to pass the written exam?" Kaori asked me. "I didn't study anything!"

"You don't need to study anything," I replied to her after August lowered the gun. "The questions are personal and it's not an academic questionnaire."

"Who wants to ask what you are, who you are, your personal background and your aspirations in a long ass interview?" she asked her. "It's only done to normal human resources department but we are different. Those things are written down and we'll be checking you if you didn't lie on that questionnaire. Even so, I can't tell you yet about one single question that we want to see you say 'Yes' to it. That question will lead you to the interview."

"I hope you don't say 'ye—" August immediately covered my mouth. She knew exactly what I want to tell her, isn't she?

"Get inside now, Kaori!" she shouted at her. "They're waiting for you!"

"Thanks!" she said to her. "I'm going now."

...

August and I followed Kaori after she entered the conference room. I don't even know if she can even answer that last question on her written exam that my uncle had asked all of the other eleven members of the Inner Circle.

What's the question that all of us adhere to?

The question is very simple:

Will you take the organization's secret and carry it on till your last breath?

I had given up long ago ever since I learned that the government of the USA was behind my disappearance. They don't do anything and they don't touch him in any way he does.

We're shadows in the outside world. I will never be known as Kousei Arima by the public.

Only those closest to me were allowed to know who I truly am.

...

The conference room's 1750 sq ft. Currently, it is divided into three portions where the initiates take their exam. The initiates consisted of three people per cubicle. It was no surprise to me to see Kaori taking her test alone. All of us members of Jupiter's Inner Circle were circling all three cubicles and they were making sure that no one would try to lie on the form. I was about to stand in front of her but suddenly, my uncle became aware of my presence.

"Those forms will be passed to the US Government for confirmation and of course, if we liked them, they will be able to become one of us," Uncle Jupiter said to me and he smiled at me after he saw the mask that I wore. It's black and glittery. "It's your first time to be here, am I correct?"

"Yes, Uncle," I answered him. "I'm worried for my girlfriend."

"She's not yet an official member of the Inner Circle," he reminded me. "If I didn't like her and if the other members didn't like her, she will be forced to leave you alone."

"Uncle!" I cried out. "This is one of the reasons why I tried my best to stop her!"

"Trust Kaori," he said to me. "Her eyes say that she can be a good member of the organization."

"Well, I hope so." I lowered my head and looked back again at Kaori who was still busy answering the questionnaire. "I don't want to lose her again."

If she's able to impress a lot of us in the last phase of the initiation, Kaori will become a member of the Inner Circle. Will she be able to impress them? An hour later, after I saw ten to twenty individuals leave the conference room, I saw Kaori smile happily at me.

She seemed confident by her answers that she stood up gleefully. It looked like she's done answering her form. My uncle took her questionnaire and gave it to January. He's a CIA Agent as I remember.

"She's promising, isn't she?" Uncle Kuroshi told him. "March will totally be happy."

"Jupiter, can I create my own Inner Circle?" I asked him after I stood beside Kaori. "I have my own circle of friends."

"We are your Inner Circle, March," January reminded me. "Will you replace us—"

"The kid only wanted to keep his own group of friends near him," my uncle told him. "There's nothing to worry about and also, he's still young."

"As far as I remember, my main duties are to stay alive, learn, hide my identity and lastly, obey all of my uncle's orders," I answered January. "I want to create my own Inner Circle while I wasn't the 'Eye'. Many of those I want to be my own inner circle knows a lot about me."

"I will oversee that Inner Circle and of course, this is a good opportunity for your father to get closer to you," he smiled at me as he stamped Kaori's written exam. "Use the Solar System's planets as code names."

"That means....," I understood everything. My inner circle will only consist of nine members. "You and my father will be in my Inner Circle?"

"Yes," he said to me. "Kaori's going to be there, isn't she?"

January stared at me and it was my first time to see him grin. He's wearing a white leather mask and it suits his green eyes.

"Yes," I replied to him. "So?"

"Ms. Miyazono, I hope you pass September's interview,"  he said to her. "It will be a waste if you don't pass since your answers here very much interest us."

"Thank you," Kaori told him. "I want to stay alongside Kousei."

I don't want her to be a member but it looked like my uncle and January liked her.

"Can I borrow her?" I asked them. "She'll be Venus in my own inner circle. You're already using 'Jupiter' as a code name anyway while you named my biological father 'Pluto'. I'll just have to find a few more members of my own inner circle."

"Indeed, March," he said to me. "You're growing up and I'm glad that you're maturing here."

...

There was no stopping me from taking my girlfriend away from that place. Interview with Seto Hiroyuki? I'm sure that it would be easy. He saw me with her and my uncle wanted her to be inside the organization.

As far as I remember, I was the only member that was forced to be a shadow!

All of them willingly gave themselves to the Eagle Eye Organization.

If there's going to be an interview, she should pass on my own questions before I let her in.

"Where are we going, Kousei?" Kaori asked me as we get out of an elevator. "You dragged me out here. I still have an interview with someone."

"I'm the current youngest member of my uncle's inner circle. I have every right to interview you first," I reminded her. "Have you ever been in a casino, Kaori?"

"Why are you asking me, Kousei?" she asked me. "Honestly, I had never been in any casino! It's my first time to be here and Las Vegas isn't all about casinos! There's entertainment, big hotels, schools and—"

"Arima!" spoke a sparkling young lady with pink pearls and blond hair. She seemed to have interrupted Kaori from talking to me. "Who's that girl with you?"

"None of your business, Mrs. Paretti," I told her. "Don't you have a poker meeting today?"

"Oh! Dear kid!" she said to me. "Tell your uncle that I have something to tell him. Also, don't you want to play poker with me? I heard that you're the youngest gambler here."

Kaori stared at me in surprise and also, at the woman who seemed to talk to me casually. She has to know that I was the only young one allowed to play since the casino's owned by my uncle.

"I'll play next time," I told her. "Tell them I'm quite busy."

"You're in a school this year as I have heard," she said to me. "Can I invite you to my hotel next time?"

"After the school year is done," I replied to her. "I'm only here since my uncle asked me to do some errand."

"I see," she spoke up. "Be careful, youngling."

...

Kaori stared at me widely after Mrs. Paretti left us alone. She still looked shocked to see me talking to someone who looked like a wife of a big thug. If that's what she thinks, she's not wrong. Mrs. Paretti's the wife of the CEO of Paretti Lending Company. The Ashworth Group doesn't hire any loan sharks but we can't stop any loan sharks from doing business inside the casinos. We can't make them feel any danger if the 'Eye' chooses to attack them and bring them down.

"Who was that????" she asked me as I sit in front of a slot machine. "She seemed to know you!"

"Of course she knows me!" I said as I pull the lever of the Fruit Slot Machine after I placed some coins. "That woman always play poker with her friends here. I played poker and roulette wheel with her most of the time when I'm here."

"Can you tell me now why you brought me here?" Kaori asked me. "You seemed... So..."

"Used to this kind of world and place?" I asked her. "This was once my prison before my uncle allowed me to study again in a school setting."

Kaori raised her right eyebrow and folded her arms. "Did you take me here so I can see what you experienced for the last three years we didn't meet?"

"Staying in my world is dangerous. You're not a criminal just because you gamble and own dozens of casinos but it's a place where the powerful businessmen and wealthy criminals gather," I told her. "The employees here are all members of the Eagle Eye Organization but they don't know much about the Inner Circle except for me as I am the heir of my uncle."

"What do you even want to pertain to me?" Kaori asked me. "Are you asking me if I can gamble? I wrote 'yes' on that questionnaire!"

"My questions are probably not in your written exam," I said as I stand up after placing the ten thousand dollars on my six empty wallets. "Casinos are a dangerous place especially my uncle's. What will you do if you see a man getting riled up and beaten? Will you interfere? Would you call the cops?"

I never acted anything around those situations and that's how my world is.

There's a different way now how those people can be caught.

"Kousei...!" She seemed shaken. "I don't know."

My eyes widened. My uncle was right about her. She's an interesting individual.

"My next question, Kaori," I said as I relax my arms and place another one dollar on the slot machine. "Will you be able to stomach a murder in front of you?"

"What are you even asking me all these questions, Kousei?" she cried out. "Tell me why you're asking me these questions!?"

"I'm asking you things that I experienced, Kaori!" I shouted at her. The slot machine didn't show me three money symbols. "Damn it! I lost a dollar!"

Her mouth opened up and her hands shook in surprise. "If I have to endure it for you, I will."

"The US Government may lie about your death, Kaori. The CIA members of the Organization are an exception that was why we have code names here. It's also possible that you'll just hide about your association here just like them," I told her. "Can you really take the Eagle Eye Organization to the grave, Kaori? It's a spy organization."

"Yes, Kousei," she answered confidently to me. "I want to protect you."

"Don't do it for me. Do it for your own sake. What you're trying to get into is a spy organization. I was finally able to understand his organization now that I'm twenty-one," I told her. "Seto Hiroyuki won't like that you're trying to get in because of me when I can take care of myself. I told you the questions he may ask you and he'll probably ask some more dangerous questions."

"Thank you for telling me, Kousei," she said to me. "I should be more ready and think of my answers well, isn't it?"

"Yes," I said to her. "If you really want to be here, you'll need to be ready to face a lot of unconventional methods done here."
