Twenty- Nine: My Dark Angel
A/n: Thank you for reading my fanfiction and for everyone who still read my book, I really am grateful to all of you!
Miyazono Kaori POV:
That night, at the time I came to the Ashworth Mansion again as the newly erected 'April' of the Eagle Eye Organization, I saw August walking up the foyer holding a black suitcase in her right hand. Why is she here? I know that she's the one who took Kousei to the Ashworth Mansion but what's her business here, now?
Seto Hiroyuki was able to inform me what kind of life Kousei had in Las Vegas ever since he arrived here. As he had always been safeguarded, and put under surveillance by Jupiter, Kousei had no way to act like he once was. Most of all, he started to accept where he lived for three years and adapt to it, making him a gambler since casinos were his playground and it helped him get distracted.
He learned to interact with dangerous individuals and even talk in English the way most Las Vegas's residents do. I was more surprised that he actually smoke marijuana and a few tobacco products like many other people staying in the hot desert.
He's a musician and an artist at heart. I hope that he doesn't end up like Vincent Van Gogh by the way he chose to live his life. The mansion was his gilded cage. He tried to flee from it but at the time he was returned by the CIA Operatives who were actually keeping him in the mansion as Jupiter's heir apparent, he knew he had no choice.
They changed him so much that after seeing him again, I knew that I don't know him anymore. He welcomed his own transformation. He's now the same dangerous resident in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was painful to know that he learned how to use a gun at the age of sixteen years old.
It was also a huge shock to me when I heard from him that he brutally killed a young member of a small gang with the CIA and FBI on his back when that young man had threatened his life after he had taken almost all of his small funds due to losing to him several times in poker. They didn't care about his death at all since he just killed a criminal.
The truth of that young man's death was kept by the government as classified information. Most casino owners don't know that Jupiter's a CIA Agent and they only know Kousei as his heir apparent to the Ashworth Group.
Even if he's free to get out of the mansion and he doesn't have that much surveillance now unlike when he was fifteen, he doesn't think of escaping the path that his uncle made for him. He grew so fast and so aggressively in this hot desert. I know now why Kousei doesn't want to come back to his old life as he may have a hard time adapting back to the simple life we have in Japan and he might revert to going to Yakuzas, instead. He's not used to a mundane life anymore. I can't force him to come back to me in our motherland.
The United States of America's now his country. He may have lived longer in Japan as a child but he will become an adult in the Nevada S. He may have experienced something more than what I heard since he liked getting intoxicated with marijuana.
"You're early," spoke Jupiter to me. "Kousei's upstairs. Don't bother him too much. He currently has business problems."
"Business problems?" I asked him. "What do you mean?"
"He's young and if he can't go through treacherous individuals living here in this city, he won't survive," he told me as he began lighting up his cigarette and began smoking. "That boy has a lot to learn."
"Casino problem?" I asked him. "Maybe I can help him?"
"You're a violinist, am I correct? That may help him," he told me as he stared right at my brown eyes. "Kaori, as you are both musicians, I'm sure you will be able to protect the Organization together."
I smiled. "Of course."
...
At the time I was near his room, I heard him grumble and cry. What happened when I was having the initiation? Didn't he just play his piano at school? Did he fail?
"I'm afraid, August!" he cried out. "For the very first time in three years, I began to get afraid again! I am afraid of my uncle but he's my uncle! He never truly hurt me and I don't want to betray him but if I lost the deal—!"
Deal? What deal? What is he talking about?
"If you lose the deal, the CIA will act," August promised him. "I think it's time to reveal to you my real name."
Kousei stopped whimpering. "You look like a Latina. You're Latina, aren't you?"
"I am," she said to him. "I'm from Puerto Rico. Yes. My name's Augusta Georgia Jimenez."
Okay? Did I just hear something I shouldn't have heard? No. I'm April of the Eagle Eye. I'm sure most of them knew their real names.
"Do you... Do you really think they can prevent me from speaking if I lose on the deal?" he asked her. "What if it's me they would kill?"
"Jupiter and his stepfather are CIA Agents. They won't hurt you. Most of all, that Valentine Gunns' a new Mafia Lord of the Gunns Family. It looks like he's actually fairly new even if he's your uncle's archenemy in Casino Business," he told him. "Even so, don't you think you always win on bets and competitions most of the time?"
"I'm afraid that I may lose this time," he answered him. "How do you think I can win?"
"Giving you such a small dose of marijuana doesn't affect you too much. You're still panicking," she chuckled. "The answer is so simple. Choose the best musician you think can enthrall people!"
"There's only one person who can do that in my opinion but I don't want her to get inside that dangerous event," he answered her. "Kaori can't be there!"
"Then, you'll have to choose someone else," she told him. "Also, choose a place where the competition will happen."
"My best friends in Japan don't know what really happened to me but I wasn't able to hide things from Takeshi and Emi. I can't believe that their parents are working in the Ashworth Group," he said to her. "Emi was with me for three years and her music's beautiful. Do you think she can win?"
She chuckled happily. "Emi and Takeshi don't know too much, March. Emi's in Russia, am I correct?"
"Yes, she is," Kousei answered her. "I guess I have to call her over."
"You're too troubled by that casino manager and Mafia Lord, March," she said to him. "I think you have to get up there and have fun at the club."
"I want to stop going there," he told her. "Let me sleep."
"I know you want to meet Gemini and Roxie," August told him. "They'll help you calm down and forget things."
"It's been a long time I haven't been there," he told him. "Do you think my uncle would allow me to go there?"
"Of course," she replied to him. "I know you don't want to make your girlfriend into a sex toy and I think you need that."
Since they've been talking and it's already very uncomfortable for me to just eavesdrop on their conversation, most especially, August's starting again to be a bad influence on Kousei, I chose to knock. I wanted to stop Kousei from going to that club, too. I don't know who Gemini and Roxie were for my boyfriend but I won't let him go to that club! It was good that August opened the door for me and after the door opened, I don't know what entered me but I just plunged on Kousei and kissed him so deeply. He accepted it willingly.
"You're here," he told me. "Apparently, you came at the wrong time."
"Am I not enough?" I asked him. "Tell me, Kousei!"
He stared long and hard at me. "You overheard some of our conversations, aren't you?"
I can't tell him that I'm in front of the door fairly longer than he thinks. "Who's Gemini and Roxie, huh?"
"Playgirls," he explained to me. "Prostitutes."
"Kousei! Aren't you afraid to get something out of them?" I asked him. "Why do you need them? I'm here to love and support you!"
"You're my woman, Kaori! You aren't meant for my sexual pleasure when I just need a distraction," he told me. "I've been here for years, and I think you'll have to adapt more to my current lifestyle!"
I was speechless. I don't even know if August's controlling him or Kousei just let himself loose. He's always been too open to her more than me or at Seto Hiroko. I don't know why he trusts August too much. She's the one who kidnapped him in the very first place! If there's someone who actually pushed Kousei to change so differently from the person we knew, it would be August and Jupiter. Both of them had wrapped him up in the life and culture of Las Vegas. The American Desert had made him vastly unknown to me. He's a gambler, a spy, a secret CIA agent, he's an heir of a businessman, and most of all, he's a treacherous man who can kill as well. That's not the 'Kousei' I loved so much. The only thing that remained was his love for classical music. He's still a musician and I have hope that he will remain that way.
"You know that I love you so much but you have to accept the way things are done here," he said as he got up from his seat. "I hope you won't betray me the way Watari Ryota betrayed me."
