Chapter Thirty- Five: The New Eye

A/n: Thank you to the people who chose to read my fanfiction!!! I am happy that you supported me until the end!

Arima Kousei POV:

The next day, my group and Valentine's Group met at the Vegas Sapphire Hotel for the deal that we promised each other. It still stunned me that Ryota, my childhood best friend, would be behind him but I chose to stand firm and strong if I want to be the new leader of the Eye Organization.

I almost wanted to laugh when I realized that I was able to shock him, too when I had invited Tsubaki to come with us. Ryota was just looking at me with such hatred but I gave him a pitiful stare instead which made him feel small instead.

Like what I have said last night when he called us on phone, Kaori had told Tsubaki that Ryota betrayed me. She was also able to explain to her that my situation was something unnatural and my life was marked by my elders. It's all thanks to my girlfriend that Tsubaki chose to side with me and not with Ryota. I smirked at the time I saw his horrible face while staring at Tsubaki and I saw his hands become fists.

Tsubaki had a shocked face like him, too. "He truly betrayed Kousei?"

"Don't worry, Tsubaki," murmured Kaori. "You're safe with us."

Valentine gave a loud cackle when he sensed the dark atmosphere between me and my old friends. As much as I hate him, I hated Ryota more for choosing an enemy. "You were surprised that a friend chose me, am I right? Don't blame him too much, Mr. Ashworth."

"My father and my uncle will be here, too, Mr. Guns." Valentine Gunns stiffened in fear when I stood closer to him. "Our deal will be in the function room of Vegas Sapphire Hotel."

"You seem confident that you will win," Valentine said to me. "Have you already chosen your champion?"

The hotel was pretty huge, smart, expensive, and modern with new technology installed everywhere. It was also very elegant and if I was still the sixteen years old 'Kousei', I might have fallen under my knees. The foyer that we both walked together was laid with a red carpet and up above was a huge diamond chandelier. Meanwhile, all the glass windows also had black vertical blinds making the whole ground floor sophisticated.

I glared at him. "Why wouldn't I be when I know that we will win against you?"

"Your uncle has trained you well, Ashworth," he said to me. "I do congratulate you for becoming just like him even if you had never wanted your place before."

...

Two of the ushers of the hotel opened the function room for us and at the time we're already inside, the judges of the deal were already at their table, Valentines and I began to introduce our champions. "My champion would be my girlfriend, April.

Valentine smirked. "My champion would be Miike Toshiya. I had invited him here as he had heard that he may go against Ms. Kaori Miyazono."

"I knew so well that you would be using Kaori," Ryota said to me. "She'd leave your side soon, Kousei."

Kaori was about to do something but I held her tightly to control her which invigorated her anger more. "Why would I let myself be used? Kousei was never my Friend A."

Valentine was just staring at us and at the same time, he might have already figured out Ryota's goal for being with him. It was nothing but a simple love triangle but even so, I know that he was also angry that I have changed so much. Toshiya Miike just looked at me and I gave her a simple grin when I realized that he doesn't recognize me.

"Arima Ashworth," Ryota began. "You have murdered my best friend."

"Control yourself, Mr. Watari!" Valentine exclaimed. "This music battle is between me and him, do you understand?"

Kaori stood next to me. "Don't worry about me, March."

"What will you do if Kaori wins today?" I asked him.

"I'll bow down to your power and I will accept your position."

"You know what I am, then."

"Your uncle's Jupiter Ashworth," he said to me. "If you do win, please forgive me but if I do win, you have to get yourself arrested."

Ryota smirked at me. "Do you still accept this battle, Kousei?"

"I'll accuse you of kidnapping if I win," I warned Ryota after I saw that Miike's wrists were bloody. "You forced a man to be here against his will."

...

My father and my uncle had arrived a few minutes later before the battle had begun and after they sat down next to me at my table, the host began to announce who would play their instruments first. Miike seemed nervous while Kaori looked confident.

A few moments later, Kaori was the first violinist to go on stage and so, she played Paganini Caprice 24. It gave me a huge smile as the music was definitely something that defines her character as from the very start, she had come out strong and independent but she was also someone who's ready for a gun battle. As the tempo goes up and up, she had immediately caught the audience's attention and every one of us was under her fingertips. She was just so beautiful, her pink dress swayed so elegantly under the spotlight of the stage, and for the very first time, I saw her swallow the stage. She was just on fire while she moved her fingers on the violin strings and she had sent a silent message to our enemies while playing her string instrument that she won't let me be in any danger and she had offered himself to protect me.

At the time my girlfriend had finished playing her instrument, Ryota began to sweat. He looked very nervous that she may win the deal since she had played so wonderfully.

Miike began to play J.S Bach: Partita for Violi Solo No. 1 in B Minor after her. He didn't try to let all of us see that he was only forced to go against my champion but as far as I can tell, it wasn't Valentine Gunns who chose him but instead, it was Ryota who persuaded him to come to Las Vegas. He had come out strong at first but slowly, his bow began to lose control and his focus on the music itself was just so distracted that the piece sounded like a crying bird or a wounded cat instead. Gunns rose from his feet and he blew up in anger making him angry at Ryota.

"You made me look ridiculous in front of the higher-ups!"  Gunns screamed. "Take him away from here, traitor! The judges don't even need to evaluate who wins against them as it was so obvious that the winner was March's champion!"

Miike stopped playing quickly and when I stared at him, he knew immediately that I was ordering him to run away so that he won't get involved with the business of the Eye Organization and the Gunns Italian-American Mafia. The judges had also left quickly in haste after they felt the tension inside the room while we stayed inside.

"Gunns," I whispered. "It's true that he used you to go against me but you can't kill him here."

"Forgive me for having too much pride these past few days!" he told me. "He said that I can go against you."

My uncle also intervened while Gunns was still holding Ryota's collar up. "Let him go."

"Forgive me for threatening the organization." Gunns took his hands off Ryota after that. "I believed him and I let myself be used."

Ryota made all of us shut up when he wailed and shouted, "Why don't you kill me? I know too much about the Eye Organization! You also took Kaori, Tsubaki, and Kaori from me! My friends were all too different now!"

"Tsubaki, Mr. Gunns, Mr. Arima, and Mr. Jupiter...," Kaori took a deep breath. "Give Kousei, Ryota, and I some space. We have to talk to him privately."

...

Ryota was just looking at me when we were alone inside the function room. "You always wanted to get out of Las Vegas, Nevada. What changed, Kousei?"

"You also need to get out, Kaori," I told her. "Give us some privacy."

Kaori tried to hesitate but she had understood my reason and so, she obeyed me.

"Be careful, Kousei," she said to me before getting out of the function room.

"Are you planning to murder me, Arima Ashworth?" Ryota told me."

I surrounded my right hand around his neck quickly. "Kill you? I can kill you if I want to but why would I? You threatened an underworld government organization, Ryota!"

"You truly aren't my best friend anymore!" Ryota cried out. "Where is he, you damn hypocrite?"

Seeing him scared of me didn't hurt me at all. "He's more awake than ever, Watari Ryota! I am him and you can't even accept that!"

Ryota punched me on my face. "You're not the Arima Kousei! He'll never want to be involved in crimes as he's just a pianist and nothing more! You're a criminal!"

I punched him back making his lips bleed. "It's true that I have become a criminal but do you think I'll ever go back to who I was before? My fate is sealed ever since I have arrived in this place! I am the new 'Eye' that my uncle trained!"

"Are you going to let Kaori stay with you?" he asked me. "Tell her to leave the Organization."

"She chose to stay with me." I punched his face again making him fall to the ground. "I know why you betrayed me, Ryota. Do you want to know?"

"The Eye Organization is evil, Kousei!" he exclaimed. "Why can't you see that? Leave the group, Kousei!"

Slowly, I began to pity Ryota instead rather than angry at him since he was still wishing that who and what we were before could still go back. "Las Vegas, Nevada is my home."

"Nerima, Japan is your home!"

"Live in the present, Ryota," I begged him. "You aren't wrong in one thing about me, after all. I have buried Arima Kousei down my heart."
