22:
"Brendon!"
Brendon's eyes snapped open at the sound of his name. He shielded them from the blinding light of reflections across the dozens of puddles that littered the ground of the parking lot he stood in as someone hurried over to him.
"You made it." Dallon smiled widely, blue eyes shining. "I thought the rain might keep you."
Brendon smiled as his boyfriend leaned down for a kiss. There had been rain, but much more than Dallon would ever remember. The storm from just days before was a blank space in Dallon's mind. Just as the demon promised.
Brendon had attempted a light probing into the taller boys memory of the events that transpired, but Dallon's expression just went blank before he shifted the conversation to something else entirely. It was like questions of it sent him into a soft reset.
"A little rain can't keep me away." Brendon smiled as Dallon pulled away. He trailed his fingertips along Dallon's jawline. "Are you ready to get going?"
Dallon nodded. "Almost. I've just got a couple more things to pack. How did you win this trip again?"
"Don't worry about it, baby." Brendon cooed. "Let's just follow the road wherever it takes us."
Dallon nodded. "Let me grab my things." He squeezed Brendon's hand before turning and hurrying back to his apartment. Brendon watched him leave, leaning against his car.
Along with Dallon having a blank space about the storm, he also didn't ask about his friends. He didn't know what happened to them in their old school turned shelter. He wouldn't recall Josh's body being separated on the ceiling, or Tyler's throat leaking red.
Brendon's lips twisted as he thought about them. There was truly nothing left of them once the soul collecting demon was done. It took them from their bodies and discarded them like trash.
Pete and Patrick had it worse. Brendon wasn't completely sure of the circumstances, but Patrick had made a deal and lost himself. With it, Pete was lost too.
Brendon spun to face his car, catching his reflection in the glass. Though he knew his expression was relaxed, his reflection scowled at him.
"Let me out." Reflection Brendon demanded.
Brendon chuckled. "You have no power to talk to me like that."
"You said once things were taken care of. You said as soon as your mission was done!" Reflection Brendon pounded against the glass with his fist, rattling the car window. "Get out!"
"Enough!" Brendon waved a hand at his reflection. Immediately, reflection Brendon's head and arms dropped. He was still as death.
"Look up." Brendon instructed his reflection.
Reflection Brendon's head rose. His eyelids were only half open and what was visible of his eyes were glossed over.
"My mission is never done, you silly little human." Brendon smirked, "You signed yourself into a contract without a foreseeable end. You've always been the ideal vessel, but securing your yes took so much work." He leaned in to look at reflection Brendon.
"Ryan..." Reflection Brendon croaked. His facial expressions twitched as if he was trying to fight the demon's influence.
The demon shushed him, watching the reflection's twitches ease. "We've been playing this game for a long time, Brendon. In the end, however, I won. And my prize is your life as you knew it."
The demon put his hand against the glass. Ever since Brendon was a child, Ryan knew he was different. He could see what others couldn't. He could be influenced on a different level than others. He would let Ryan in, one way or the other.
Years later, it finally happened. Circumstances were right, even with another demon trying to wiggle into what he had spent so long building. Once Brendon said yes, taking care of the extra demon issue was like taking candy from a baby.
Another thing that made Brendon special, he was like an amplifier to supernatural energy. Maybe that's what helped draw Ryan to him in the first place.
"I do care for you, Brendon." Ryan cooed to the reflection, "That's why it's best that I use you rather than some other nasty things." He blew the reflection a kiss.
The reflection didnt respond. Instead, it vanished completely from the window.
"Sleep tight." The demon sang softly. He could see Brendon being wrapped by dark in his mind. He wouldn't wake up again until Ryan called upon him.
With the power he now has, however, it could be an endless amount of time before that happened.
"Brendon!"
The demon turned, smiling as if nothing out of the ordinary had been happening. "All set?"
Dallon hurried up to home and planted a kiss on Brendon's lips. When he tried to pull away, Brendon pulled him closer, deepening the kiss. Dallon complied, but let out a soft cry after a moment.
"I think yohbit me." He said as he pulled back, rubbing his lower lip.
Brendon smiled sheepishly. "Just a bit of a love nibble." He apologized, "Just to show you're mine."
Dallon smiled. "No question."
Brendon ran his tongue over the bite marks under Brendon's lower lip as Dallon brought a suitcase to the back of the car. Just a small bite allowed for so much demonic influence to seep in. Twist some thoughts. Add some worry. Just a seed can grow so fast.
"Alright, Dallon?" Brendon asked as he opened his car door.
Dallon nodded as he opened his own door. "I'm excited to spend some time with you."
Brendon turned to his rearview mirror with a small smirk. There was a split second gleam of the vessel's true owner in the reflection of his reddish, brown eyes, but that was easily pushed away. "Believe me, Dallon, so am I."
