The Change
Exhausted, Amethio let himself fall onto his bed, leaning his head against the wall and closing his eyes. He breathed slowly and steadily to avoid irritating his rib. Ceruledge stood quietly in a dark corner of the room, watching over Amethio protectively. Suddenly, Amethio felt something jump onto his legs and opened his eyes, annoyed. He saw that it was Eevee that had leapt onto him and was now curling up. Carefully, Amethio began to stroke Eevee's back. Eevee looked up at him and smiled cheerfully before snuggling up to him. Powerless to stop it, Amethio let it happen and was secretly glad for it. "We didn't really agree on this, did we?" Amethio said with a smile on his lips. Eevee tilted its head to the side and then jumped onto Amethio's head. Slightly annoyed but still happy, he rolled his eyes.
Suddenly, Amethio's door opened, and Liko entered the room with Friede. "What do you want?" Amethio asked, irritated, while lifting Eevee off his head. "I see you've made a new friend," Friede said with a smirk. "Is Eevee your Pokémon now? Where did you find it? And why did it help us?" Liko asked excitedly, her words pouring out in a rush. "Why do they always have to question me about everything?" Amethio thought irritably, but then answered, "I found it near the Explorers' base. It was injured, so I helped it." "That was very kind of you," Friede said kindly.
"But that's not the reason you came here, is it?" Amethio guessed in a calm tone. Eevee climbed back onto Amethio's lap, and he began to pet it. "We just want to know what happened. You know. What exactly happened before you came back to us with a broken rib," Friede said seriously. Amethio lowered his head sadly. He didn't really want to talk about it but knew that sooner or later, he would have to tell them. So he began to explain, "After I returned to the Explorers' base, Master Gibeon, the leader of the Explorers and my grandfather, wanted to see me. When I got to him, Spinel accused me of betraying the Explorers, and my grandfather believed him. So he kicked me out. When I tried to defend myself, my grandfather had me attacked, which is how I broke my rib and ended up imprisoned. I managed to escape, but only barely."
Amethio closed his eyes again, determined not to feel sorrow for his grandfather anymore. However, this worked only to a certain extent, as deep inside, he was still completely disappointed by what his grandfather had done, but above all, he felt hatred toward Spinel. "Oh, Amethio, I'm so sorry," Friede said sympathetically. "It's fine. I've always been alone, and it will probably stay that way," Amethio replied emotionlessly. "Dinner's ready now. You should really eat something," Liko said, trying to change the subject quickly. "Thanks, but I'm not hungry," Amethio declined wearily. "Should we bring you something?" Friede asked, concerned. "Again, no thanks," Amethio said irritably, looking at him dismissively. "But you haven't eaten anything for three days now," Liko protested resolutely. "Come on, Liko, we'd better leave Amethio alone," Friede whispered to her softly, and they left Amethio's room. Once they were gone, Amethio stood up and fashioned a small, cozy bed out of some blankets and pillows in the corner for Eevee. "You can sleep here," Amethio said quietly and weakly as he carefully set Eevee down. Then he turned his back to Eevee, who looked at him confusedly, and collapsed back onto his bed. Amethio closed his eyes, trying not to think about all the terrible things that had happened. Suddenly, he felt something jump onto his bed and snuggle up to him affectionately. Amethio saw that it was Eevee, who curled up next to him and began to sleep. Amethio did the same and closed his eyes again.
A faint beam of light fell on Amethio's eye, causing him to slowly wake up. He carefully opened his eyes and saw slightly blurred shapes at first. "Where am I?" Amethio asked, confused. "Oh, right, I'm on the airship." As he slowly tried to sit up, he noticed Eevee lying on him, still asleep. Gently, Amethio lifted Eevee off him and carefully laid it back on the bed. In the corner, he also saw Ceruledge sleeping peacefully. A small smile appeared on Amethio's lips as he quickly got dressed and prepared for the day. He removed the bandages around his rib and head since the pain had diminished, and the head wound had partially healed. Only the wound on his neck, which Spinel had inflicted on him yesterday, was still raw and painful. Amethio rebandaged it. By now, Ceruledge had woken up and was approaching Amethio slowly. "Good morning, Ceruledge," Amethio said softly and calmly as he noticed Ceruledge. It raised one of its sword arms in greeting. Suddenly, something leaped onto Amethio's head, throwing him off balance. He almost fell but managed to steady himself against the wall. "Eevee!" he scolded lightly, lifting it off his head and placing it on the ground. Eevee looked at him sadly, and Amethio said apologetically, "Sorry, but you can't keep jumping on me like that." Eevee nodded in understanding, and Amethio picked up the small, cream-colored fluff ball in his arms.
Together with Ceruledge and Eevee, he left the room and went to the meeting room for breakfast. "Good morning," Liko greeted Amethio as he entered the room. All members of the Rising Volt Tacklers were already present and looked at Amethio with astonished eyes. "Morning," he replied somewhat shyly. "Your Pokémon can go over there to eat with the others," Friede explained kindly. Ceruledge went to join the Pokémon, and Amethio set Eevee down there as well. Eevee watched nervously as Floragato approached it to greet it. Terrified, Eevee ran back to Amethio, leapt into his arms, and began to cry. Everyone stared at the two in shock. Amethio, however, immediately began gently stroking Eevee's back and whispered softly and calmly to it, "Calm down. You don't need to be afraid." Amethio closed his eyes and continued stroking Eevee until it stopped crying. Sad and scared, it looked up into Amethio's eyes. Suddenly, a sharp pain coursed through Amethio's head. He held a hand to his head as a vivid scene played out before his eyes. He saw a heartwarming scene of many Eevee playing together. Among them was his own small, cream-colored Eevee, but it didn't have the scar over its eye. They all seemed very happy until suddenly a group of Persian attacked them. All the Eevee fled and hid, but the Persians kept finding them because the cream-colored Eevee couldn't camouflage itself as well in the green bushes. After some time, the normally colored Eevee started attacking the cream-colored Eevee and drove it away. Frightened, it fled deep into the forest. The vision before Amethio's eyes shifted. He now saw his little cream-colored Eevee wandering alone through the forest when it suddenly encountered some Meowth that offered it berries. Eevee accepted them joyfully and devoured them quickly. When it finished eating, it smiled happily at the Meowth. However, they did not return the kindness. One of them attacked the Eevee with Fury Swipes, leaving it with the wound over its eye. With tears in its eyes, Eevee fled quickly but got caught in a trap a few meters away and couldn't free itself. The vision in Amethio's mind ended, and he collapsed to the ground, exhausted, still holding Eevee tightly in his arms.
"Amethio, are you okay?" Liko asked worriedly, kneeling down beside him. The other Rising Volt Tacklers also stood up and formed a circle around Amethio. "I know exactly what it's like to go through something like that," Amethio whispered softly and sadly to his Eevee. It snuggled against him again, and he held it tightly in his arms.
"I feel so sorry for Eevee, for everything it's had to go through. I know what that's like. I trusted my grandfather, too, and in the end, he rejected and hurt me. He treated me like dirt. Will I ever, anywhere, not be treated like this?" Amethio thought sadly, lost in his thoughts, when he suddenly felt someone shaking his shoulder and asking worriedly, "Amethio, what's wrong? Talk to us!" Confused, Amethio shook his head to collect his thoughts before replying, "It's nothing." "You can't tell us that anymore!" Friede insisted. "Exactly, tell us what's going on," Roy pleaded with him. "We can't help you if you don't tell us what's wrong," Mollie agreed. Amethio looked to Liko for help, but she only said to him, "It's better if you tell them."
Amethio stood up, his head hanging low, before he began, "So, that just now was something like a vision. It was a vision of Eevee's past. But I've also had visions of the future before, which ultimately came true." Everyone, except Liko, stared at him in shock. "And... how long have you been having these visions?" Friede asked seriously. "The first time I had one was when I was watching you all fight. That was the day after I got this scar over my eye," Amethio explained shyly. "Strange. Do you know why you have them?" Friede asked further. Amethio shook his head desperately. "That's also why you sometimes feel those pains," Friede concluded. "But it's good that you told us about it. Now we can figure out together what this could be." "YOU want to help ME?" Amethio asked, surprised. "Of course, you saved Terapagos after all," Liko answered his question kindly. "And... I think you're already partly one of us." "I'm one of you?" Amethio asked, confused. "To be honest, after what you've done for us, I think so too," Friede admitted. The others agreed with him.
"So, do you want to join the Rising Volt Tacklers?" Friede asked, encouraging him. Amethio looked uncertainly at Ceruledge and then at Eevee. Both of them nodded at him encouragingly, and Amethio said happily, "I think I can give it a try. But you have to promise me one thing. We won't let Gibeon come to Rakua." "What do you think?" Friede said teasingly and stretched his fist forward. The other Rising Volt Tacklers followed suit and looked at Amethio expectantly. He stretched his fist forward as well, and together they performed the famous Rising Volt Tacklers handshake.
Happily, they all sat back down at the table and began eating breakfast when Amethio suddenly remembered something. "And what do we do about Eevee? It's afraid of other Pokémon." "Why's that?" Friede asked. "Because of its past," Amethio said irritably, rolling his eyes. Even though he was now part of the team, Amethio couldn't change his behavior overnight. "Well, we'll deal with that later. For now, it can eat here with us at the table," Friede suggested. Amethio carefully set Eevee down on the table and placed its food in front of it. Before Eevee started eating, it briefly snuggled against Amethio's arm, and he stroked it. Afterward, he also began eating breakfast with the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers.
