A New Family
"Where do you think Amethio ran off to?" Liko asked frantically as she, Friede, Roy, Dot, their Pokémon, and Amethio's Pokémon had exited the Exceed company building. She looked around anxiously before Friede, a bit calmer than her, responded, "We need to find him, the sun is starting to set. We'll split up. I'll search the beach with Cap (Flight Captain Pikachu). Roy, Dot, you search the eastern part of the city with your Pokémon. And Liko, you, Floragato, Ceruledge, and Eevee search the western part. If you find him, let us know." Everyone nodded in understanding and set off in different directions.
Liko walked down every street at least twice, but with no luck. "Where could he be? He must be so lonely and sad," Liko said as she looked at Ceruledge and Eevee. Liko could tell that they were just as worried as she was, probably even more so. "I'm sorry I couldn't find him," Liko apologized to them, lowering her head in guilt. Floragato tried to cheer Liko up when Eevee suddenly jerked its head up and tried to make itself known. Liko looked at Eevee, confused, and asked, "Hey, Eevee, what's wrong?" "Eevee," the little Pokémon replied, and then ran quickly down the street they were on. "Hey, wait!" Liko called out in panic as she followed it. Eevee led her through several alleyways before it stopped in front of one and began jumping around excitedly, clearly happy. Out of breath, Liko stopped and recognized the figure of someone she knew well in the dark alley. "Amethio," Liko exclaimed and ran toward him, but suddenly stopped when she got closer. Even though it was already very dark, as the sun had just set, Liko could see that Amethio was sitting on the cold ground with swollen eyes and his head lowered. "Amethio..." she tried slowly and sat down next to him on the ground. Eevee, however, wasn't as cautious as she was and jumped onto Amethio's head, expecting a reaction from him. When he didn't move and kept staring at the ground, Eevee grew worried too. It jumped off his head and looked at him sadly. Ceruledge also approached Amethio's side and put an arm around his shoulder. He still didn't move. Liko cautiously tried to talk to him, "Hey Amethio, we were looking for you, and we were really worried about you." But even Liko's words didn't seem to reach him, so she tried another approach. She grabbed Amethio's shoulders and gently shook him, hoping to snap him out of his thoughts. "Hey, Amethio, say something. Please..." she pleaded with concern, "I'm worried about you. And not just me, look at your Pokémon. They're terrified because they're scared for you."
Amethio slightly lifted his head and looked into the eyes of his concerned Pokémon. "Why should you worry about me?" he murmured barely audibly. "Is this a joke?" Liko asked, incredulously. "I don't mean anything to anyone. Not even to my own family," Amethio said quietly, burying his face back in his hands. "But to us!" Liko disagreed firmly, "You mean a lot to us. You're our friend. And you should know that you mean everything to your Pokémon." To confirm,Eevee let out a soft "Eevee," and Ceruledge chimed in with a quiet "Ceru." "Really?" Amethio asked, disbelieving. "Of course, Amethio. Don't listen to your father or grandfather. They have no idea. We really like you, and that won't change," Liko said, encouraging him resolutely. "So there really are people who like me and care about me," Amethio thought with a sense of joy. Amethio felt warmth in his heart and finally experienced the feeling of security again.
Amethio lifted his head, and a small smile appeared on his lips. "Thank you, Liko," Amethio said softly, picking up Eevee in his arms and briefly stroking Ceruledge on the head. "Eevee," Eevee happily snuggled against Amethio. "No problem," Liko waved it off, looking at him with a soft gaze. "I think I should tell the others that I found you." Liko pulled out her Rotom Phone and contacted the others. She told them she had found him, and they agreed to meet at the airship. "Come with me," Liko said gently to Amethio, offering him her hand. Amethio's eyes widened. It was just like in his vision when he had returned to the Explorers. "The light that reached out to me... it was Liko. But... how? It felt so familiar," Amethio thought, surprised and confused. "What's wrong?" Liko snapped him out of his thoughts. "Nothing. We should go now," Amethio quickly tried to change the subject, taking Liko's hand and standing up. Together, they walked back to the airship. Amethio was still completely confused and tried to make sense of everything, but it wasn't really working.
Liko, Amethio, and their Pokémon entered the meeting room because they had arranged to meet the others there when Liko suddenly stopped and asked, "Mom, what are you doing here?"
Liko's mother, Lucca, was sitting at the large table in the middle of the room, talking to Friede. "Oh, hello Liko, I... wait, Amethio... is that you?" she asked doubtfully, standing up and walking towards Liko and Amethio. Automatically, Amethio took a few steps back and asked confused, "Sorry, but I've never seen You before. How do You know me?" "So it really is you. I didn't think I'd see you so soon. You look just like in the pictures," Lucca remarked with a smile. "In which pictures?" Amethio asked, shocked, and the others were equally confused. Lucca dug a picture out of her bag and handed it to Amethio. Shocked, he widened his eyes. The picture showed him as a five-year-old child, on the arm of a silver-haired woman with violet eyes. Next to them stood Amethio's father, Crave. "The woman... is my mother," he stated, stunned, and was frozen in place. "Mom, where did you get a picture of Amethio and his family?" Liko asked her mother, confused. When her gaze fell on the picture, her breath caught. "That's Aunt Luna!" Now, everyone present, except for Liko's mother, stared at the picture in shock. "How can this be... is my mother... Why didn't she..." Amethio mumbled, bewildered. "Amethio, Liko, let me explain," Lucca said calmly. "The thing is, Luna, Amethio's mother, is my sister and Liko's aunt. I'm your aunt, and Liko is your cousin." "So Amethio is my cousin?" Liko asked, completely stunned. "WHAT?! Why didn't my mother tell me about any of you?!" Amethio asked, dumbfounded. "You were still so young, and I think someone forbade her," Lucca admitted. "My grandfather," Amethio murmured, filled with hatred. "And why didn't you tell ME?!" Liko asked her mother, slightly upset. "Luna didn't want to. She told me that Amethio had to go to his grandfather, even though she was against it. But since Crave, her husband, allowed it, she left him and came to us. She asked me not to tell you because she didn't want you to get into trouble," Lucca explained to her daughter. "Well, that worked out great," Liko muttered, disappointed. "Where is she?" Amethio asked, though he already knew the answer. "Didn't anyone tell you that she passed away about a year ago?" his aunt asked compassionately. "Yes, but I somehow hoped... that my grandfather lied," Amethio admitted, heartbroken. "Why didn't she visit me? Didn't she love me?" "Oh, absolutely not. She loved you more than anything. She always had a smile on her face when she talked about you. She would always show me the pictures of you that she got from Crave. She wanted to see you, but your grandfather didn't allow it. I don't know why, but she tried over and over again," Lucca finished her explanation with compassion. Amethio looked away from her gaze. "My mother loved me and tried to come to me. And now I can never... see her again," Amethio thought brokenly, feeling tears welling up in his eyes.
Liko gently placed a hand on his shoulder as Amethio suddenly realized: "Wait... AM I A DESCENDANT OF LUCIUS?!" Everyone in the room stared in shock because they hadn't even thought of it. "Yes... I think so," Friede speculated, perplexed. "So... Amethio is a descendant of both Gibeon and... Lucius?" Roy asked, trying to confirm again. "Looks like it," Dot replied, shocked. Even Terapagos, who had left his Poké Ball shortly after they arrived at the airship, just looked confused and unbelieving. Amethio stared at the floor as if hoping it would give him some answers. "But here's another question, why are you here, Mom?" Liko tried to change the subject. "I was strolling through the city when Friede came up to me and told me he was looking for Amethio. I helped him because I thought it would be a chance to finally meet you," she answered and looked at Amethio expectantly. "I... I'm also glad to meet you," was all Amethio could say at that moment. It felt as if his entire world had been turned upside down. He had a family who might actually care about him. He was related to both Gibeon AND Lucius. And his mother had truly loved him. Eevee gently nudged him as it noticed his worry, and Amethio began to stroke Eevee. "It's getting pretty late. How about we sleep on this realization overnight?" Friede suggested, glancing at the clock. "Good idea," Lucca agreed. "Would you like to stay with us tonight?" Friede asked politely. "No need, but thank you for the offer," Lucca declined and hugged her daughter goodbye. Before she left, she turned to Amethio again: "It was nice to meet you. Please take good care of my daughter." "I... I'll try," was all he sadly responded, knowing that he couldn't even protect himself properly. Lucca noticed his sadness and hugged him. Amethio flinched at first but then felt somewhat better. He gave his aunt a smile before she turned toward the door. "Wait," Amethio asked, and she turned around. "The picture..." Amethio tried to explain. "Keep it," Lucca said to her nephew. "Thank you," he whispered after Lucca left the room and slipped the picture into his pocket.
"It's been a long day, better we all go to sleep now," Friede suggested, and the others agreed with his proposal. Amethio went with Eevee and Ceruledge to his room and lay down in his bed. Eevee snuggled up to him as usual, and Ceruledge went to a cozy corner and quickly fell asleep there. Although Amethio tried for a long time, he couldn't fall asleep, so he decided to get some fresh air. He quietly sneaked out onto the wing deck and sat on the floor in a position that was comfortable for him. He looked up at the stars and wished they could answer all his questions. But it seemed like just a wish, because nothing happened. "It looks like neither of us could sleep," Amethio suddenly heard a voice behind him. He turned around and saw Liko, who sat down beside him. "This must be really confusing for you. It's confusing for me too, and I only found out that you're my cousin. You found out about a whole new family," Liko said sympathetically. "Tell me about it. It's like my entire world has been turned upside down. I never thought... that I'd be related to you, your family, and especially to LUCIUS. To LUCIUS. With you, it's not a big surprise. You're such a good and kind girl, and you have as big a heart for Pokémon as he does. But me? I helped my grandfather. Gibeon. The one who abandoned Lucius. I'm not good..." Amethio doubted himself and turned his head away. "Don't say that! You're a good person. You saved me twice, and even Terapagos. You risked your life for it. You deserve to have a good life too," Liko defended him. Amethio felt warmth in his heart. Now he understood why Liko had been the light in his vision. He finally had someone who REALLY liked him. He had a family. He had a wonderful cousin. A smile appeared on his lips, and he said,
"I've always wished for someone like you. Someone who is there for me. Even though Ceruledge is always there for me, it feels different with a family." "I've always wanted someone too. Being an only child can be nice, but it can also be really lonely sometimes," Liko confessed. "Tell me about it," Amethio said with a hint of sadness in his voice. Liko heard the sadness in his voice and hugged Amethio.
"I'll have to get used to this," he thought after flinching a little. "Thank you," he said, looking into Liko's tired eyes. "You look tired, you better go back to bed now." "You too," Liko insisted, and they both went back to their rooms. Amethio lay back in his bed, held Eevee tightly in his arms, and for the first time in a long while, fell asleep peacefully and happily.
