The Messenger Girl

This time, she would do it. That's what Torri told herself. She was outside the ExtraOrdinary rooms. Madame Alice scared her, and she needed to give the ExtraOrdinary Wizard her parcel. Torri shouldn't have been scared. Madame Alice has known her since she was only two. Torri sucked in her breath. Because she was left at the Wizard Tower on the same day as the dissapearence of Septimus Heap-it was also her birthday- she was considered bad luck to other wizards. Her birthday was coming up too. Just another reason to stay away from wizards.
Torri knocked on the purple door and straightend her red beanie over her tangled mess of staw- colored hair. The door opened to reveal Alice and her multiple books.
    "Yes?"
"I- I, have a parcel for you! It c- came today Madame Alice. It's the genealogy books and charms." Torri stammered. Alice smiled.
"Ah, yes! Thank you! Say, Torrianne," Torri cringed at the use of her real name, "isn't  your birthday in two days? Twelve if I'm not mistaken?" Torri nodded. Alice but her lip on deep thought. Torri turned away and prepared to go down the spiral staircase.
"Wait, Torri! I have a birthday present for you!" Alice called. Torri turned back around and walked into Alice's rooms.
The ExtraOrdinary rooms were stunning. There were foreign objects and beautiful pictures covering the walls. The stone steps to the golden pyramid library seemed to be more like silver.
"Fire. Torri sit down while I go find it." Alice said as she walked into the bedchamber. Torri sat down on an ornate, purple couch. She was in awe at the beautiful fireplace. It glittered in the flames. Torri finally pulled her gaze from the fire and looked back to get other surroundings. There was a pet- rock farm. The oldest one seed to be a rock with green paint splattered on it. Above the rubbish cute was a beautiful lapis carving. It was so complicated and had gold embedded into it. Torri preferred silver, but gold was nice too. On the wall, there was a toy dragon pinned. She wanted to touch it, but thought different. As she was looking at all the other strange objects, something caught her eye. It was a minty- blue book. This time, Torri couldn't help herself. She got up and picked the book off the coffee table. It seemed to be locked. Torri looked around the room. No key. Was it really locked though? She was about to test that theory when she her Alice's voice. Torri quickly put the book down and sat back in the couch.
"Here it is. I finally found it in my wardrobe. I honestly don't know why I have that thing. It's not like I store my clothes in there anyways. Nevertheless, happy birthday." Alice handed her the gift. Torri accepted the parcel and placed it in her lap. It was wrapped in green with a purple ribbon.
   "Beautiful." Breathed Torri.
"Oh, you haven't even seen what's inside." Alice smiled. Torri carefully unwrapped the gift. When she moved all the paper away, her eyes went wide.
"It's wonderful." Torri whispered. She looked at Alice with an awestruck expression.
"Thank you." Torri smiled. This was the best present she had ever received. She picked up her presant. The gift was simple to the non- Magykal eye. But to the wizards, it was a silver and ruby protection charm, the rarest of its kind. Torri pulled her hair to the side and brought the chain to her neck and closed the clasp. This was the most expensive thing Torri had ever owned.
