EPILOGUE

"Da-Da!"

Little Justin wobbles towards his father on unsteady little legs.

Jungkook opens his eyes from where he is laid on the ground, panting.

His body is soaked with sweat by the end of his late afternoon dance practice.

"What took you so long?" He asks, swiping the babe off his feet with ease. He holds him up high above his chest, smiling.

Jungkook balances the raven-haired baby boy in mid air, much to his little delight. The squeals and giggles of happiness that ensue are enough to captivate even the stoniest of hearts.

Jungkook's father looms in the doorway to the studio, nearly out of sight as his wife delivers Justin back into the arms of his young Dad.

He watches with a sore disposition as his son and grand-son play with such joy and abandon that it nearly kills him inside.

The sight makes his heart break with guilt and fester with remorse.

"Happy first Father's Day, Jungkook." He can hear his wife's voice sing out into the empty room. She holds something out to Jungkook and he takes it, curiosity and surprise playing on his handsome features at the same time.

"Justin made this for you," his mother explains, handing over the clumsy cluster of craft paper, messy glue, buttons and colourful pipe cleaners.

"I love it," He hears Jungkook sigh with appreciation.

"Thank you, little J!"

Jungkook bounces the laughing tot up and down making him squeal and writhe in amusement. A quick rub of their noses together sends the little one into even more gleeful hysterics.

"He loves it when I do that," Jungkook cocks his head adoringly to one side, never taking his eyes away from his son.

His own father can clearly see the undoubting love in Jungkook's eyes. He recognises it. The incredible feeling of pride and joy that plays behind such a look.....its because it was the same whenever he'd looked upon his children when they were small.

If only he had had the common sense to express his affection differently.

He wished he'd believed in his boy, trusted his judgement as a man instead of attempting to manipulate every part of his existence.

Now, what was once treasured remained broken.

A wedge had been driven between them, so deep, callous and damaging that he feared it might never be resolved. Not even after today. But still, he had to try.

He hears his wife clear her throat to capture Jungkook's attention which makes his own heart shimmer with apprehensiveness and anticipation.

She was about to carry out the favour he asked.

"Jungkook?"

"Huh, yeah Mom?" he questions distractedly, still playing with the little boy who is busy giggling and squirming about. His angelic face proudly shows off an adorable bunny smile identical to that of his Dad's.

"Jungkook, there's someone who would like to see you." His mother presses, forcing Jungkook pause to in comprehension of what she must mean? Quickly, he catches on. Her tone of voice alone, gives it away. It wasn't the first time she'd tried to bring Jungkook and his father back together since the incident.

"...it's been too long," She continues, her voice pained but Jungkook can't hear anymore of it.

He sets Justin down carefully and rises up on his elbows before bringing his body up to stand tall, feet planted determinedly on the floor.

"Mom, I've told you a thousand times ..."

"It wasn't her doing," His father steps boldly into light of the room.

"What are you doing here?" Jungkook spits vehemently in his direction through gritted teeth.

"Don't blame your mother Jungkook, It was I who wanted to meet. I asked her to bring me here... to see you." he replied.

The look in Jungkook's eyes wavers for a mere second, "Why?" He questions lowly.

"To settle things between you and me. Jungkook, I am your father..."

"The fuck, you are! You made it clear that I was no son of yours? And to be truthful, I've grown quite used to idea."

Little Justin's mouth begins to quiver at its corners, looking on at the exchange, his large eyes glassy with tears.

Jungkook quickly takes notice.

"Now, look what you've done?" He shouts, "Please leave." He warns calmly but his body it shaking with anger.

"Leave before I do something I have to regret, Dad."

Instead Jungkook's father nods gently to his mother who quickly takes the tot away with her out of the room.

Alone now, the older man hangs his head placing his hands in his pockets, before taking a deep breath.

Jungkook stares at him. So many emotions rising up from inside of him at once that he felt he would nearly throw up.

"You really shouldn't be here." is all that his dangerously seething rage will allow him to say.

He turns roughly to grab his duffle bag, swiping his car keys from a small hook on the wall with the full intention of leaving his father right where he stood without sparing him any conversation.

After all, what more was there to talk about?

What he'd done was unforgivable.

"Jungkook wait!" The older man called after his son who turned around slowly, his hand curling into a fist.

"Wait for what, Dad?" His voice breaks with anguish and upset, "Wait for what? For you to say you're sorry...that you didn't mean for any of this to happen? Well it did!"

The older man's lips part stupidly, unable to answer to such a direct proposition of his intended thoughts being heard prematurely from his son's lips.

He shivers with embarrassment, swallowing hard, "Jungkook I couldn't have known ..."

"How dare you make excuses Dad? You hired someone to take Melanie away from me!"

Jungkook's nostrils flare, his tightly coiled fists turning white.

"It was never meant to turn out this way. No matter what happened you just couldn't stop thinking about her. At the time, Melanie was the only thing standing between you and your place as geodeahan. I gave you everything, I hid you and protected you, made you someone loved by the whole world but it wasn't enough! She was all you cared about. I just thought that if you saw that she'd fallen for somebody else, you would want to move on with your new life. The life you were born for, meant for! But you loved her too much, it would only complicate things for the clan if you chose her and I was right. Look at us now ...."

"Dad, will you listen to yourself?" Jungkook heaved a laborious breath, tears stinging at his eyes, "The person you planted in her life turned out to be a jealous psychopath and you're still defending yourself? I can't even fucking believe you right now!"

Jungkook's father supposed his son was right.

He had made a grave mistake. When he hired Eric to steal Melanie's heart and separate her and Jungkook forever, he didn't mean for it to end this way. Eric was a well chosen subject in the beginning. Who knew that he would take things too far?

Reminiscing on this thought, the older man did something that in his life, he thought he would never ever do.

He walked right up to his son. Taking in the man he was today. The way he'd grown taller, smarter, more instinctive than him in every way. The ideal geodaehan. He would have been the greatest one of all time.

He slowly knelt before the younger man, his head bowed in consolidation. His only longing, to show his penance for an irreversible mistake made. The past can never be undone.

Jungkook stood tall, his shoulders square, chest heaving with every breath and lungs burning with emotion. He gazed down reproachfully.

"What do you think you're..."

"....forgive me, Jungkook."

Jungkook sighed heavily, a hot tear running to the end of his nose.

"I don't want to," He answered slowly.

He saw the older man's head visibly bow lower, his shoulders shaking. He must have been crying but Jungkook didn't feel sorry at all. Not in the least bit.

He bit down on his lip, wanting to do the right thing no matter how much it hurt him to do so.

"I can't ever let this go but.....I know she would want me to. It's the kind of person she is Dad and she would want me to...she asked me to forgive you."

His father slowly glances upwards at his words, his eyes hopeful.

"I just want you to remember one thing, though..." His son declares, coldly.

The older man blinks silently in question.

Jungkook turns around just before he leaves.

"Remember that she is the one who has forgiven you, Father. I never will."
