Fifty- Five
When Sally left work she headed to the car park stairwell, and then hesitated on the landing. It had been a long day. Not one she wanted to relive. Things were going to change that's for sure. She dug around in her handbag for her car keys. "Shit." Keys were still on her desk.
Sally huffed and turned around. "Holy fuck!" she yelped and clutched her hand to her throat. "It's just you." Sally sighed heavily. "You shouldn't sneak up on a person like that. Jesus... I nearly wet my pants." She giggled as she added, "I have to go back for my keys." As she started to move away a hand reached out and grabbed her upper arm.
"We need to talk."
"Yeah... we do." Sally smiled. "Do you want to do it over a coffee?"
"Yeah... sure... I want to sort out what's going on between us."
"I'd really like that. I'm sorry I've..."
"Come on. Let's go for that coffee while we talk."
"I'll just get my keys." Sally pointed down the hall. As she turned around a heavy blow landed on the back of her head. She dropped to her knees. "What... the...?" Sally's eyes closed. She forced them opened as she was being pulled to her feet. "What... are... you... doing?"
"You won't need your keys tonight."
"What...?" Sally tried to concentrate. Her head hurt and her legs just barely supported her weight. "What...?" She realised too late that she was standing on the edge of the landing; a hard shove in the middle of her back sent her flying.
As Sally fell, face first, her heart leapt into her mouth. This couldn't be happening. Her arms flailed in mid-air. She twisted around to grab the rail, missed, because her reflexes weren't quick enough. Her head hit the fourth step with a loud bang. The pain reminded her what a horrible day this had been.
When her legs shattered as they slammed against the lip of the ninth step there was no air left in her lungs to scream. As her neck snapped on the eleventh step Sally felt relief as the pain suddenly left her. Her body buckled at the base of the stairs. Her head twisted awkwardly on her shoulders.
Sally had the sense she should close her legs and wondered how she'd managed to get her ankle under her head. At least she was wearing her pretty hot pink panties. Her body rocked and jerked reminding her of Mercer's vibrator. She felt something warm run down her chin. Yes, it had been a bad day all round but it was over now and she just wanted to sleep.
The last thing she saw was the sole of a shoe as it stepped over her.
Then...
The...
Light...
Faded....
