Welcome to the Show
This chapter contains songs that have been neatly weaved into the storyline. I believe I've written credits to them. If something glitches or is wrong, I'm not sure if I can do anything about it but I will see what I can do.
I hope you enjoy!
I left Mumbi and his siblings to get to my siblings. I ran to the tent. I entered and was greeted by B giving orders to some set directors.
"No! This is ridiculous! Get out there and fix it if any of us gets hurt you will be fired and sued!" B snapped and they scurried out.
B scoffed and turned around.
"Oh! Grian! Did you have fun?" B asked.
I laughed and nodded.
"Who's jacket is that?" B asked and I tried hiding my blush in the overwhelmingly large and sweet-smelling jacket.
"Friend gave it to me because I was wearing my performance uniform," I responded and he sighed.
"Good guy, think he'll come to the show?" B asked he seemed anxious like he always did.
"He said he would!" I chirped fiddling with the inside of the jacket sleeve since it easily extended past my hands.
"Hey, can you throw this away?" B asked chucking an empty bottle of water at me.
I agreed and stepped out once again. I chucked it in the recycling bin and turned to return into the backstage half of the large tent.
"Hey!" Mumbo waved calling out to me.
I looked over and my whole body jolted in happiness. I held up a finger and disappeared into the tent. I grabbed a six-pack of Coke from the cooler and winked at Mini who seemed to glisten at his knowledge of me and Mumbo. I popped back out, six-pack in hand.
"You can have these right?" I asked walking up and holding them out for them to take.
"Ye," Mumbo nodded, hesitantly.
Iskal beamed and eagerly took one of the bottles from the six-pack.
Hypno shrugged and grabbed 2 handing one to Eliza. Mumbo took the fourth and I popped out the fifth and the sixth leaving the stupid plastic waste left.
"I'll give the last to Taurtis." I concluded.
I slipped the coat off, even though I wanted to keep it forever, and handed it back over to Mumbo.
"It'd be better if you had it, don't want it to be stolen backstage," I glanced made an excuse looking around, just in case.
"I gotta go! Wish me luck?" I kissed Mumbi's cheek once again and ran back to the tent, 2 bottles in hand throwing the small piece of plastic into a recycling bin not far away.
I roamed till I found Taurtis as a helper stuck plastic flame-resistant flowers into his hair and slightly over his eye. Not too much but enough that it'd be annoying to him, which will be extremely funny to watch.
I placed the extra Coke on the desk in front of him. His eyes glisten and he grinned. He happily took the bottle and we gladly drank together.
"Oh, thank you G. This is sooooo boring," T wined.
"I know," I laughed and he fiddled with his armbands.
Which was his choice mind you.
The dark blue and the red flowers with the wristband was all his decision. Although the flowers weren't the color was. He blew a stray black hair out of his face and he smiled up at me.
"You're lucky," he commented, "you have the easiest outfit."
"He also does all the flips, cartwheels, spins, and power usage out of all of us," Martyn commented leaning against the wall.
I laughed and the woman pulled away from Taurtis.
"What about Netty?" T offered.
"Net's outfit is pretty simple too. She just has a sheer skirt for flair because she does the air tricks."
We roamed around a bit just, talking. We eventually got to the main part of the tent where they were going to start letting people in soon.
"T," Net called running up.
The 2 whispered something together that sent a jealous wave to my stomach. T groaned loudly and ran the other way. Net stayed and continued brushing out her hair and trying to figure out a way to braid a small flower chain into her now short hair.
She had cut it recently which sent Mom off the chain screaming but it looked good. Made her hair look thicker. And healthier.
"Here let me help." Zee offered which earned a yelp from me and a taken aback gasp from her.
"Jeez, I thought you left Zee! It's so hard to see you in this light!" I shrieked holding my chest.
My heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest for the second time this afternoon and I didn't even have someone to cling onto!
Zee laughed and Netty let him help get the flowers properly in her hair.
I shook my head and looked over as the first few people were let in.
"You guys are obnoxious and I love it!" Martyn laughed running a hand through his blond hair and fidgeting with his hat he still had to get on.
Mombo walked in, the minimal light from the outside gave me just enough to recognize him and his crew. He looked over, I knew this because of the outline of his hair but I could no longer see his gorgeous face. I waved at him although I don't think he saw because he didn't respond.
Which was reasonable since it's extremely dark in here. He got into the bleacher and, unfortunately, he was sat at the end of the row in the first row in Zee's, B's, and my section.
Luckily though, they were also the least likely to glare and make a scene about him in their section. Although, I doubt in the middle of the show anyone else would do anything either.
"You ok?" Martyn ask.
"I'm nervous, what if he doesn't show?" I squeaked, pretending I hadn't seen Mumbo.
Zee obviously didn't buy it, Martyn scoffed and Netty sighed.
Zee said nothing of the matter at first scanning the performance area and the bleachers.
"I'm sure he'll come G, they just started letting people in. You're overthinking him not being here yet." Martyn scoffed and marched away.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll see your friend," Netty assured and quickly went to the back.
Zee paused and glanced between me, Mumbo, and the disappearing Netty and Martyn.
Once they were far enough away and wrapped an arm around me and pointed to Mumbo's crew.
"It's him right?" Zee asked.
I stiffened and was supremely glad for the dark lighting.
"Come on! Let's go say hi!" Zee chirped and dragged me to Mumbo and the crew.
He didn't say hi to Mumbo at first like I was expecting instead he jumped up to the outer ring that separated us from the audience that was a little over waist-high.
"Yo! Hypno!" He chirped and hoised me up with him.
"Jeez, you remember me?" Hypno scoffed.
"Only a bit, but a bit's enough ain't it?" Zee laughed.
"You're a hazard to society." Hypno sighed.
"That. is an understatement." I retorted and Zee hit my arm.
"G! You're supposed to be on my side!" He whined.
"Oh sorry, my bad. Ahem," I backtracked, "Hey take that back!"
We burst into too much laughter and Zee almost fell off the outer ring resorting in me having to grab his arm quickly.
He sighed laughter still trickling out.
"We should go finish getting ready, the show will start soon. Besides, don't want to cause any more of a scene," Zee winked.
He stood up on the outer ring and did a flip off it. His form was horrible but the goal was to be dramatic, not practical I guess.
"Ho! Like you're one to talk!" I laughed.
He scurried away back into the shadows. He was right though. The first 2 rows had been completely filled on both sides and the third was beginning to pile in. Soon the second half of the third and then the fourth were gonna come and being in the open takes away some of the "Woah" factor of seeing us.
I winked to Mumbo, booed Iskall on the nose, and hopped down running back into the shadows and off stage where they were putting microphones and last-minute add-ins on.
They strapped a mic connected to my ear and down to my mouth onto me and then tightly, maybe too tightly, wrapped light blue lace around my wrists.
Using water was always preferable but the ribbons make it more natural and elegant I guess. Although I think it makes it look dainty, feminine, and a tripping hazard. Considering what I bring to the table.
"You ready?" I whispered to Taurtis and he took a deep breath and nodded.
"Are you?" He asked back.
"Not at all." I sighed and he took my hand and squeezed it.
"It's gonna be fine," he assured both me and him.
"Of course we are. Are you ready?" He asked taking our hands in both of his.
T nodded and I took a deep soothing breath.
We went back to the main, just out of sight.
I could see Mumbo scanning the crowd around him when the music started. This Is The Greatest Show, from The Greatest Showman.
https://youtu.be/NyVYXRD1Ans
"Whoooooaaa!" Started first and Taurtis kneeled down by the ground 2 gasoline covered ropes in both hands circling the very outer side of the performance area.
We don't want anyone to get hurt after all.
The song continued with the thumps and whoas and claps as I and T waited for our cues.
By the third "whooooaa" on the clapping and pounding, Taurtis flicked his wrists and the ropes erupted in flames flicking slightly in the air like a bunch of people slowly catching on fire as they did the wave.
The fire eliminated the tent sending yelps and squeals of delight through the tent. All but Netty and I were now eliminated. Taurtis got up and ran to join Tom in the chanting.
By the 9th "whoooa" it was my turn.
I took a deep breath and ran out to the center where a podium stood. I hopped on did a flip and kneeled down to the ground.
"Ladies and gents this is the moment you've waited for." I sang which sent far too many squeals and cheers throughout the crowd.
I could no longer see Mumbo but I knew where he was. And that was good enough for me.
"Whoooooa!" Stomp.
"Searching through the dark, your sweat soaking through the floor."
"Whooooa~" stomp.
"And buried in your bones there's an ache that you can't ignore," I slowly rose up on the pedestal.
"Taking your breath, stealing your mind and all that is real is left behind~"
I hopped off the pedestal and slowly walked in a circle around it.
"Don't fight it it's coming for you, running at cha'.
It's only this moment don't care what comes after.
Your fever dream can't you see it's getting closer?
Just surrender 'cause you feel the feeling taking over!"
"It's fire, it's freedom, it's flooding open!
It's a preacher in the pulpit and your blind devotion.
There's something breaking at the brick of every wall it's holding
All that you know, so tell me do you wanna go?" I sang getting louder slowly until the last line.
"Where it's covered in colored lights? Where the runaways are running tonight?
Impossible comes true, it's taking over you!
Oh! This the Greatest Show!" We all sung.
I did a flip and landed almost tripping over the ribbons but Salem and Pearl discretely caught me.
"We light it, we won't come down! And the sun can't stop us now!" We sang and I ran and did a cartwheel ending right in front of Iskall who happily waved at me though it was barely seeable through to the flames.
"Watching it come true, it's taking over you!
Oh! This is the Greatest Show!" We sang.
I took a deep breath trying to regain my composure.
"Whoooooaaaa~!"
I slowly backed up, back towards the pedestal in the center.
"Colossal we come, these renegades in the rain.
Where the lost get found in the crown of the circus king!" I sang and hopped on the pedestal once more.
"Don't fight it it's coming for you, running at ya'.
It's only this moment don't care what comes after.
It's blinding outside and I think that you know, just surrender 'cause we're calling you and you wanna go-" we all sang, though them quieter than I am.
"Where it's covered in colored lights? Where the runaways are running tonight?
Impossible comes true, it's taking over you!
Oh! This the Greatest Show!" We sang.
I raised my arm to the sky and flipped. Mid-air I flicked my wrist and wrapped my ribbon around my hand only to let it go and fly out more when I landed.
"Impossible comes true-" they sung.
"Intoxicating you," I finished for them.
"Oh, this is the Greatest Show!" We sang.
"We light it up we won't come down!" We sang.
"And the sun can't stop us now!" They sang.
"Watching it come true-" I sang.
"It's taking over you!" They finished.
"Oh! This is the Greatest Show!" We sang.
"It's everything you ever want,
It's everything you ever need,
It's here right in front of you- this is where you want to be," I sang walking the perimeter of the show stage, winking at Mumbo as I passed.
"It's everything you ever want,
It's everything you ever need,
And it's here right in front of you,
This is where you want to be!" I repeated.
"This is where you want to be!" Salem's voice echoed beautifully through the speakers.
Stomp, stomp, clap.
"Where's covered in all the colored lights, where the runaways are running tonight!" We sang rhythmically with Salem dramatically signing in the background.
"Impossible comes true, it's taking over you,
Oh! This is the Greatest Show!" We sang stomping and clapping.
"This is the Greatest Show!~~"
I was positioned right in front of Mumbo which made me just able to see his wide grin underneath his perfectly groomed stache.
Silly billy.
Stomp, stomp, clap. Stomp, stomp, clap.
"We light it up, we won't come down. And the sun can't stop us now! Watching it come true, it's taking over you-" we all sang.
"This is the Greatest Show!" Taurtis pierced through the chorus smoothly walking past like a Queen.
Arm in the arm and hopping smoothly onto the pedestal.
"When it's covered in all the colored lights. Where the runaways are running tonight!" The rest of us sang.
"Impossible comes true, it's taking over you!" Taurtis and Netty sang.
Netty flipped and grabbed onto one of the dangling ribbons coming from the shafts at the top of the tent.
"Oh, this is the greatest show!" The rest of us sang.
We slowly marched, clapping, and stomping around the performance area.
"We light it up, we won't come down! And the walls can't stop us now!" Taurtis and Netty joined in once more.
"I'm watching it come true, it's taking over you!
Oh! This is the Greatest Show!" We all sung once more.
Yay, chorus.
I noticed and recognized Sam to my left as I marched up.
"'Cause everything you want is right in front of you," T and Net sang together," and you see the impossible is coming true!"
"And the walls can't stop us now!" They sang.
"This is the Greatest Show! Oh!
This is the Greatest Show! Oh!
This is the Greatest Show!" We sang.
We repeated that line 7 more times and finally ended the song on the same note.
"This is the Greatest Shooooooooowww~!" We all sung.
Salem adding a bit of flair to it.
We bowed and ran to get into places #2. I doused the flames with my water and the lighting disappeared.
Song 2, Say My Name by BeatleJuise the Musical.
https://youtu.be/QpMbyp0j2bA
A spotlight flicked on to the outer ring. The left side center. Thankfully away from Mumbo. In the Center of the light stood Mini and Solidarity.
Mini coughed and the music started playing once more.
"Don't you want a buddy?" Mini sang wrapping an arm around Soli's shoulders.
"Don't you want a pal?" He asked and with his hand made the motion as if it was talking, "yes I do, yes I do!"
He grabbed Soli's shoulders and spun him around so he faced him.
"Bro the way I see it, your daddy should be leaving and you should stick around!" He announced.
"And kill him."
"What?!" Soli freaked not pushing him away just yet.
"Nothing!" Mini quickly covered it up.
"So Darity, don't end yourself, defend yourself! Daddy's the one you should maim!" Mini clasped his hands over Soli's and beamed.
"Together we'll exterminate, assassinate!" Mini gleefully exclaimed.
"No!" Soli yanked his hands away and Mini pulled him close by the shoulder once more.
"The finer points can wait. But first, you gotta say my name!"
"Go ahead and jump, but that won't stop him!" Mini proclaimed sitting on the railing.
"Here, you got a solid plan B option! I could bring your Daddy so much pain! All you gotta do it say my name!" Mini offered and Soli sat beside him.
"Guy, just say it three times in a row! And you won't believe how far I'll go! I'm on the bench, but coach! Just put me in the game!" Mini begged clasping his hands around Soli's hands, "all you gotta do is say my name!"
Soli stood up and yanked free.
"I don't know your name." He said easily and Mini rolled his eyes.
"Well, I can't say it!"
"How about a game of charades?" Soli offered.
"Yes, let's play it!" Mini hopped up almost falling over into the person below him.
Mini held up 2 fingers.
"Alright 2 words?" Soli began.
"Right."
"2nd word?"
"Uhhuh!"
Mini did a drinking motion.
"Drink?"
"No."
"Beverage?"
"No."
"Wine?"
"No."
"Juice?"
"Yes!"
"Ok, first word." Soli sighed in relief.
Mini made a small gap between his thumb and forefinger and then wiggled his fingers like a creepy-crawly, which made Solidarity laugh.
"Bug?"
"No."
"Ant?"
"Close but no."
"Beetle?"
"Yes!"
"Beetlejuice?" Soli asked skeptically.
"Wow, I'm impressed~," Mini chirped.
"And all you gotta do is say my name 3 times! Three times in a row it must be spoken, not broken. Ready? Ok. Go!" Mini grinned.
"Betelgeuse..."
"Yes?"
"Betelgeuse..."
"Yeeees?"
"Be..."
"Oh, oh! This is going to be soooooo good!" Mini gleefully squealed.
"...cause!"
"What?!"
"You're so smart, a stand-up bro. I'll think about your offer and let you know. But I prefer my chances down below!" Soli sang.
"Betelgeuse,"
"Yes!"
"Betelgeuse,"
"Yes!"
"Being young and naive doesn't mean that I'm an easy mark! I've been swimming with piranhas I don't need a shark! Yes, life sucks but not that much-" Soli roasted Mini.
"Ok, Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse, be a doll and spare the lecture!" Soli went off.
"I'm offering you a full-time Spector!" Mini countered.
"Are you any good?"
"You betcha! Trust me, baby!" Mini took him by the hands and Soli pulled away and balanced his way down the rail.
"I just met cha'! Really, it's a flattering offer!"
"Don't you want to see dad suffer?"
"I think I'd rather just jump off-" Soli countered pulling a foot over the edge.
Mini wrapped his arms around Soli's waist and pulled him away from the edge.
"No!"
"I may be suicidal, but Betelgeuse it's not as if I've lost my mind!" Soli snapped poking his chest.
"So, playing hardball huh? You are. . . tougher than you look.." Mini hummed.
"Just wanna know who I'm working with. Got any references?" Soli scoffed.
Tom hopped up on the railing opposite end of the tent. Right beside Mumbo. Then he hoisted Salem up behind him. They both ran to the center and another spotlight blinded the twins.
"Darity there you are!" Salem announced.
"Are you alright?" Tom asked.
"T-Dog, S-Town! My old pals!" Mini chirped holding out his arms like he wanted a hug.
"Hey, get away from him!" Tom snapped.
"Darity this is a dangerously unstable individual!" Tom warned pointing menacingly at Mini.
The two then straightened out, put their arms out like birds, and hopped down off the railing waddling around like dorks.
"Betelgeuse is sexy!" Salem announced.
"Betelgeuse is smart!" Tom added.
"BJ is a graduate of Julliard! He can help, we found him on Yelp! Our troubles all ended on the day that we defriended him! Every word is the truth! Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse!" The two chanted.
The two collapsed and had their heads.
"What the heck was that?!" Salem groaned.
"So violating!" Tom added.
"What was that?" Soli asked Mini.
"That was possession, any ghost can do that in less than one lesson!" Mini announced proudly.
"Any ghost?" Soli asked.
"Pretty much, any ghost will do sure!" Mini chirped.
"Then Betelgeuse, what do I need you for?" Soli asked smirking.
"Whoa, whoa. Whoah, whoah, whoah! Hold up! Hold up guy, I'm your pal! They're sweet but I'm a demon straight from Hell! I know I went a little hard on the sell but we're BFFFFs forever!-" Mini tried convincing him.
Soli pushed Mini off the railing into the performance area where he slid under the seating by a passage under the railing.
"Darity!" Tom and Salem gasped and Soli shrugged.
"What? He was already dead, besides any ghost can do that possession stuff!"
Soli jumped off the railing and walked up to Tom and Salem.
"We don't need that demon, the three of us alone can wreck dad's evening. We can make a grown man weep, guy's got a dinner date to keep!" Soli beamed.
"Ok? So what's the plan?" Tom asked.
"Teach dad a lesson, he's gonna freak when we possess him!" Soli explained, took their hands, and slowly backed up.
"So he wants the perfect daughter, I'll be that lamb to slaughter! Yeah, I've got game! I'm gonna make him say my name!" Sali announced.
"You'll make him say your name," Tom and Salem repeated him.
"I'll make him say my name!"
"You'll make him say your name!"
"Not running away!"
Soli let go and they turned back to the audience.
"I'll make him say my name!" Soli finished with a bow. And they backed up into the darkness once more and the lights went out.
We all took a drink of water and 2 more songs played.
Butterflies by Gabbie Hanna performed by Netty in the air and Panic Room by Au/Ra performed by Pearl.
Next would be my turn and then a kick people out of their seats and drag them into the action! That's gonna be fun!
But that can wait for part 2...... hehehehheheheheheheh!
