Chapter Seventeen: Salaria
The stones in her pocket glowed a bright ocean blue. They hummed as she walked, and Salaria didn't realize this until later. She felt a vibration in her pocket and she wondered what it meant. She pulled out the stones and held them in her palm, facing upwards, towards her. She gazed at them like shooting stars, enchanted by their looks and beauty. They were smooth and unlike any stone Salaria had seen in her life, but she was told that she needed these stones in the future. She raised her hand at eye level and felt a tug as she was pulled forward. She had a feeling that she should listen to them, and somehow she blew onto them. And they dissipated into a trail of glowing blue dust that followed the rough path that the Shadow Woman made for her just a moment ago. These stones gave her the confidence that she thought she needed to trust the woman, and now she can. Because these stones were the Boombas' magical stones.
She grabbed her longbow that she still had with her and readied an arrow, prepared for what was to come and if it was danger she was glad that she was taught how to fight. Her parents paid a lot of money for her to train and she was grateful for it, and it was something that she wanted not because her parents forced her into training either. She was glad to have it. All of the running and cuts, and brusies, as well as the broken Bones; it formed her into the woman she was today, but running a kingdom with her sister wasn't what she wanted. She couldn't be like Zamaria. Growing up, Salaria had to do all of her mother's work day in and day out. While Zamaria discovered her magic early and her parents kept her away from the city.
In fear that the city and the rest of her kingdom would cast them out. Because magic was rare and Zamaria wasn't exactly the nicest person in the kingdom of Emsas either. She acted like a school bully, but more power and heavier outcomes. She stole coin and threatened her people. Offended some of the other neighboring kingdoms and wouldn't let it go. Their parents had to keep her out of their hairs as they tried to fix everything that Zamaria damaged. Salaria was the only one who did her best to teach Zamaria the ways of being good and respecting their parents.
It was stressful, because Zamaria was the eldest of the two of them. The first born, but when she had discovered magic. Things were different and no one could've gone back to the way things were. No matter how much the two of them wanted to be, they had to fix their magic before their situation ends up getting worse.
Salaria stopped in her tracks. She thought she heard a creepy hyena like laugh echoing in the forest. She wondered what that was and then looked around the dark forest. The only light that gave her the ability to see was the glowing and floating path that the magic stones made. She looked around, weapon poises and ready for action. She blinked. Did she see yellow eyes in the woods? Or was she just imagining things. She shook her head, really hoping to leave this place soon.
"Who's there?" She called out, her shoulders shaking. She felt like she was in some sort of hooror novel. Walking into the woods with creepy creatures, but this was her world. And she didn't want to die in this forest. The razor yellow eyes blinked, and a few more sets appeared in the shadows of the trees. Then, some glowing white teeth appeared and snarled and snapped, but they didn't approach Salaria, her heart was racing and she felt like she wanted to run. So she ran with fear, and followed the path, hoping that she'll find a place to rest soon.
The laugh repeated and she started to sweat. It repeated again and again and again. Salaria could feel the tension rise in her chest and her hair was dripping with sweat. She hated sweating and she hated this forest. She was so scared she was ready to ball up into a fetal position and start rocking back and forth, but she focused on the beat and the rythm of her running. Every sound she made with her boots that stepped onto every twig, every leave, and every piece of dirt. Until she tripped over a log and landed into a clearing. It was conspicuous, and clean. Like someone trimmed the grass and removed the leaves and there was no dirt. Sun was shining down and Salaria could see the sky. The clearing was circular and had about a 50ft circumference. In the center we're a few tents and s nice roaring campfire. Above the campfire was a small grill, that had meat being cooked on top of it. Her longbow scattered five feet in front of her and her arrow snapped. She was upset when it did and her reaction about this clearing was appalling. Did the Great Boomba know about this place? Why did the stones lead her here, and why would the shadow woman lead her here as well? What is this place?
