Top 75
Hello again!
I've got some homework to do for tomorrow, but of course, what do I do? I do my top 75 of national finals, comments included!
These tops are very enjoyable to watch, but so freaking hard to make, especially when you love a lot of songs. That's why it's not because a song is low that I don't like it, I mean, why would I include a song I hate?
[This was written before this monday, it just takes time to write comments for 75 entries] As I don't really understand what's going on in Spain, no Spanish song is included. I also wanted you to know that I barely checked out Moldova, Lithuania (too many songs, and too complicated to find every audio), Romania (same reasons. I mean, 60 songs? Nah.), Belarus (same reasons once again, I just know the final well), and Armenia so not many songs from these countries will be included.
•••
75. Christabelle– Taboo | MALTA | New
I don't even know if I like or dislike this one. I guess it grew on me but not enough to be higher.
74. Ed Rallidae – What I Had With You | LATVIA | -59
My biggest fall here. I don't know, I just got bored of it, even though I don't mind listening to it from time to time.
73. Frankie Animal – (Can't Keep Calling) Misty | ESTONIA | -52
That's the problem when you release songs early, people get bored of them. That's exactly what happened with Estonia and Latvia for me...
72. Lucie– My World | FRANCE | New
Even if I don't like this song as much as I used to, it didn't deserve to come last with 0 points, poor girl...
71. Adagio – Ты і я | BELARUS | New
There is something in this song that makes me feel nostalgic, because it's the type of song that you can hear on some Russian TV show that I used to watch with my family when Russian TV was still somewhat free. It also reminds me of "Khor Turetskovo", a male vocalists band that I used to listen to when I was younger.
70. Gergely Dánielfy – Azt Mondtad | HUNGARY | New
This song reminds of something but I have no idea what. I'm affraid that this one can get a bit too overrated but I still don't think it'll win...
69. June The Girl – Same | FRANCE | -45
I am disappointed by the live, and I thought that her voice would be better, but she still deserved to qualify over Max Cinnamon, for example.
68. Fourtissimo –KisnyusziA Kalapban | HUNGARY | New
Such a shame they didn't qualify! This entry is so much fun to listen to, and it definitely brings something different to this sea of ballads-upbeat-basic-songs.
67. Julinoza –XтоЯ? | UKRAINE | New
This is a very peculiar yet beautiful entry, that can either flop or do very well. It's the kind of songs whose result you can't predict. Let's wait and see, I guess.
66. Etnopatsy – Külm | ESTONIA | -57
I guess I just have enough of this repetitive "Ella ella oh". I still appreciate the quality of the song, and people react mostly positively to this kind of good ethnic entries, and so do I, so I expect it to do well.
65. Malo' – Ciao | FRANCE | New
As my father said, this is definitely the most British sounding entry of Destination Eurovision, that's why I feel like French kind of ruined this song, along with the weird staging, which highlighted the peculiar aspects of the song, but instead of making this entry even more interesting, it all resulted in a big flop
64. Brooke Borg – Heart Of Gold | MALTA | New
If we forget about these nonsensical lyrics, this song becomes somewhat enjoyable. I really love the choice of adding extra backing voices during the chorus, it definitely makes the song more listenable.
63. NAPOLI – Chasing Rushes | BELARUS | New
"I'm sick of it, I'm sick of chasing Russians" I'm sorry but I just can't unhear this x) Quite good entry, especially for Belarus' standards.
62. Anastasia Malashkevich – World On Fire | BELARUS | New
I really love the power of her voice, that fits really well with the song itself, which is pretty decent, once again, especially for Belarus' standards.
61. Ida Maria – Scandilove | NORWAY | New
I can't get enough of Norwegian humor. They have an amazing sense of autoderision that we can feel pretty well in this entry. This song is very enjoyable, but not a winner. Or at least not for me.
60. EvaBurešová – Fly | CZECH REPUBLIC | New
I like and dislike this song at the same time. I mean, it's a beautiful composition, but not something that I would listen to on a regular basis. Still better than Lie To Me though.
59. Gunesh – I Won't Cry | BELARUS | New
My second in this year's Eurofest, though it's mile away from my actual winner, both in this top and in quality. It's still a good song, even if it gets a bit repetitive after a few listens.
58. Pavel Callta – Never Forget | CZECH REPUBLIC | New
I love to play air guitar when listening to this :') I really love the "harmonica" sound in the chorus, it really adds something I guess.
57. Richard & Joe – Song For Dad | MALTA | New
I don't have much to say about this entry except the fact that I find the message sort of beautiful.
56. ArtemisaMithi – E Dua Botën | ALBANIA | New
I absolutely love her hair! And the instrumental bits in the song. This is way better than Piedestal, by the way.
55. Eleanor Cassar – Back To Life | MALTA | New
This one is like World On Fire, it's powerful and sung by a beautiful voice. I hope it'll win this year's MESC.
54. Angel – Heartbeat | ARMENIA | New
Definitely not the best Heartbeat song that we've had at Eurovision, and I hope it won't get too overrated, because there are other songs more worthy to win.
53. Jukebox& Bella Santiago – Auzi Cum Bate | ROMANIA | New
This song reminds me of last year's Petale, but in less memorable and less good overall. But since Safari got eliminated, I'll have to root for this one I guess.
52. Nassi – Rêves De Gamin | FRANCE | New
There was this Nassi song, "La Vie Est Belle", which was often played on the French radio, that I secretly enjoyed quite a lot. I loved its style, its melody, its message. That's why I was really happy when I saw that he was trying to represent France at Eurovision and thought for a while that he was an obvious choice. However, after seeing and hearing his performance... I understood with a lot of regrets that it's not going to be the case.
51. Knoll Gabi – Nobody To Die For | HUNGARY | New
The song itself is decent, but the live was a bad surprise. The staging was really good and calculated, but her voice ruined everything.
50. Ceasefire X – Satellites | HUNGARY | -38
To be honest, when I first heard the snippet it immediatly reminded me of Oscar Zia and I thought "winner!". But then, I heard the whole song and now I don't even know if I actually like this song or not, as my opinion changes eveytime I re listen to this song.
49. Edgars Kreilis – Younger Days | LATVIA | -27
I still enjoy this entry, but not as musch as I used to. I think it will still do well in Supernova as there will be a lot of people who never heard the song before, but I hope it won't win it all.
48. Nemra – I'm A Liar | ARMENIA | New
I really love this entry more and more, and even if it's not a very popular song, I hope it won't be too underrated. Besides, there's really something original about this that I just can't point at, so it's another good point for Nemra.
47. ElinaNetšajeva– La Forza | ESTONIA | -37
You know, I've been thinking lately... Just send her to Eurovision, so we can form a big community of Russian speaking artists in Lisbon. Her, along with Doredos, Samoylova and future Ukrainian and Belarussian representatives, it already makes at least seven people. Wait what do you mean it already existed and failed? Rahem, all jokes aside, I still feel like this song is highly overrated, I mean her voice is really good and the song itself isn't bad, but then can you please explain me why did y'all underrate other great opera entries? Ah, Sobral effect...
46. Madame Monsieur – Mercy | FRANCE | New
The message is good. I know. The melody, on the other hand, isn't. This song sounds your typical French variety song, a genre that I just can't stand. We had better options to chose from this year.
45. Asanda – Legends | UNITED KINGDOM | New
There's something about this "hey yeah yeah yeah" part that really disturbs me. And it's not the chorus/drop that I would expect when I hear the first verse. I don't know, it doesn't really fit the song and ruins it a bit. If it wasn't the UK I would have said that this is going to be highly overrated.
44. Reni Tolvai –Crack My Code | HUNGARY | New
What, Hungary again? Yes, and you'll have a lot more to come. About this song, I like it, although not as much as some others do. This drop is very odd though.
43. Agnese Stengrevics– You Are My World | LATVIA | -26
Please, don't kill me, @tonperelekarcher x) To be honest, it's starting to grow on me again so maybe it won't stay at 43rd place. We'll see. I still like the chorus though.
42. Lisandro Cuxi – Eva | FRANCE | New
I start to like this song less and less to be honest. But it is still better than Madame Monsieur, starting with the staging. He owned the stage when Madame Monsieur didn't. Unfortunately the song is quite forgettable so with a bad running order it can get lost.
41. Leander Kills–NemSzól Harang | HUNGARY | New
They really like their riff, they put it everywhere lol The song is decent, but it's not the best rock entry in A Dal this year.
40. ViktorKirály – Budapest Girl | HUNGARY | New
I don't even know what to say about this, so let's just say that it's a quite srong entry with a catchy chorus, but I don't see this winning A Dal.
39. Isabell Otrebus – Delirium | POLAND | New
Another highly overrated entry, especially if you consider the fact that Voiceless was better. I still enjoy it though, but let's wait for other songs.
38. Nova Prospect –Vigyázó | HUNGARY | New
They were favorites at one point but then the hype kind of calmed down. I like this entry more than I used to, but I am not fond of her voice, as I probably already said, I prefer male voices, especially for this kind of music.
37. Eugent Bushpepa – Mall | ALBANIA | New
Decent song and deserved winner. I'm glad that he decided not to change his lyrics to English, it sounds more authentic this way. I'm still curious to know what this song is about though. I hope he will do well at Eurovision and will allow his country to go to finals, even if this year seems very strong. Oh and by the way, this is miles better than Piedestal.
36. Kazka– Дива | UKRAINE | New
This "nanana" gets a bit annoying after a while, but other than that, it sounds like a pretty decent entry. I'm really wondering how they will stage it, and what will be jury's response to this song. I also feel like they could do very well and even win the whole thing if the juries like it, because they will certainly gain a lot of points from the televote, and maybe even win it as well. We'll see, we'll see.
35. Paula – 1 2 3 | LITHUANIA | New
I kind of like this one. It's not my winner but it's still an enjoyable song to listen to. The staging is great too.
34. Katrine Lukins – Running Red Lights | LATVIA | -11
It's one of the early revealed songs that I am not bored of. Yet. I think it will grow on me a bit more, we'll see. I personnaly wouldn't mind if she wins Supernova, but there are better songs this season. Looking forward to her staging, too.
33. HamKo Ham – Bármerre Jársz | HUNGARY | New
I LOVE this kind of entries, and I'm sad that we don't have a lot of them at Eurovision, especially from some countries. Don't be ashamed of your culture, show it to the world! :D I hope that they'll do well in A Dal!
32. Doredos – My Lucky Day | MOLDOVA | New
I love this! It would be a really good successor to Sunstroke Project, as both entries are fun and upbeat. I hope they'll win!
31. Áttan– Hér Með Þér | ICELAND | New
Let's be honest, the Icelandic version is way better than the English one. Chance are high that this will win Söngvakeppnin (incredible, I wrote this without a single typo! :O), this or Battleline (I don't remember the Icelandic title sorry). I wouldn't mind that much, but unfortunately, I've got another winner.
30. ELYSA feat. JQ – Famous | POLAND | New
This song is so underrated, as it's completely hidden behind Delirium. It's too bad, because it would have been a worthy winner of Krajowe Eliminacje...
29. GuðmundurÞórarinson – Litir | ICELAND | New
When I see general musical tastes of soccer players, I would have never expected one of them to sing such a slow and beautiful song. But still, it happened, and I'm happy it did. I wish him good luck in both Söngvakeppnin and in his soccer carrier.
28. Stella & Alexandra – You Got Me | NORWAY | New
This song has a lot of energy, and it's way better than Haba Haba. I also hope that Stella improved her singing talents...
27. Girls In Pearls – Spellbound | ESTONIA | -8
I still like the vibe this song has, and even if I don't think it'll do well, I still wish it good luck.
26. TAYANNA– Леля | UKRAINE | New
Oooh this will grow on me a lot. I still prefer Квітка though, but I'm pretty sure that this will do very well, it has very high chances of winning, actually, especially if juries still love her.
25. Maria's Secret – Escape | ARMENIA | New
First off, this is a killer stage name, love it! The song is both déjà vu and original for my ears. That's quite weird, I know, but it doesn't stop me from liking this song.
24. Emmy Liyana – OK ou KO | FRANCE | New
I already said it, but I will say it again, I absolutely love this title. The final staging was even better than the semi one, while Madame Monsieur's one didn't improve at all. Another reason why OK ou KO should have won instead of Mercy.
23. Peet Project – Runaround | HUNGARY | -12
Out? This song is out? Are you serious, Hungary? Why? Why?! Where was the problem? Was it the live? Was it bad? Tell me, cause I really don't understand.
22. Aron Hannes– Golddigger | ICELAND | New
I still don't know if I prefer this one or Tonight, but I guess that both deserve(d) to represent Iceland. It's not a guarantee that they will qualify to the final, though; but still...
21. Asmik Shiroyan– You and I | ARMENIA | New
This song absolutely screams "summer" and for that reason I shouldn't like it but I still do. She is definitely a favorite to win, but in my humble opinion, Armenia's got a better choice. Y'all know who I'm talking about.
20. Iiris & Agoh– Drop That Boogie | ESTONIA | -13
https://youtu.be/pkyp4Fv-RzQ
I still find this very enjoyable and I'm still hopin that they won't be underrated but they probably will...
19. Rebecca– Who We Are | NORWAY | New
https://youtu.be/gAOdDq1fK2c
I expected better from Mørland, but the song is still decent, especially for this year's level of MGP...
18. MarizaIkonomi – Unë | ALBANIA | -10
https://youtu.be/-SlAaXopFlA
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah, she's got a great voice... I'm sad not many people like this song, it deserved better.
17. VanessaIraci – Redlights | SWITZERLAND | New
https://youtu.be/2wAzmmYrg60
Both this song and "Stones" would deserve to go to Eurovision, but to be honest, these two are the only good songs in this year's Entscheidungsshow...
16. Serena– Safari | ROMANIA | New
https://youtu.be/lpeuIu-ZYJY
Yes, her live was horrible, but she had a decent song. And I think that a bad singer with a good song is better than a bad song with a good singer. Because what's the point of having a good voice if people don't even want to listen to your song? She didn't deserve to be eliminated.
15. Debbi– High On Love | CZECH REPUBLIC | New
https://youtu.be/E8UDxJ5fp5A
Yeah, she should have won for Czech Republic. Miles better than "Lie To Me", miles, miles better...
14. AleksanderWalmann – Talk To The Hand | NORWAY | New
https://youtu.be/dFbkmu7XT08
Are we ready for a second year? Yes we are! I really like this song, maybe even more than "Grab The Moment". I wouldn't mind at all if Norway sent him again, cause he would definitely deserve it.
13. GretaZazza – Broken Shadows | LITHUANIA | New
https://youtu.be/BYH_F7RFf1g
This song is better than "Like I Love You" and she really doesn't deserve to be robbed once again. So Lithuania, please do not send another troll act and select a decent entry, thank you - Europe.
12. HorváthTamás – Meggyfa | HUNGARY | New
https://youtu.be/t58r0WXHQ5s
The big favorite and I can see why. If I hated it at first, I now enjoy it a lot and even find myself listening to this from time to time and mumbling some sounds that would sound like something more or less close to Hungarian to foreign ears (no, I've never searched for the lyrics and I would have had no idea how to pronounce them anyway).
11. Zibbz– Stones | SWITZERLAND | New
https://youtu.be/eyZQ95XxeOw
Now here's how it's all gonna happen: they'll win the Entscheidungsshow, go to Eurovision, and get stuck in semi because of a bad staging idea, or because of the fact that Switzerland is not hyped anymore, despite the fact that it's a decent song.
10. AWS– ViszlátNyár | HUNGARY | New
https://youtu.be/QQgurXKh42U
It is EXTREMELY rare that I like metal/rock songs, so congrats guys. I don't even know why I love this song that much, but I really do and I'm glad that people responded pretty positively to this song. I really hope they'll do very well in A Dal!
9. Vajé– Laura (Walk With Me) | ESTONIA | -5
https://youtu.be/La38hrlTfnY
Who will get robbed this year? You don't have to be a genius to guess... Still my winner of Eesti Laul.
8. SuddenLights – Just Fine | LATVIA | -2
https://youtu.be/vyMyBBX_fYc
Who else will get robbed this year? I'm really sad that not a lot of people actually enjoy this song as much as I do... This song is a real bop
7. #yeahlafeat. Viki Eszes – Egy Szó, Mint Száz | HUNGARY | +11
https://youtu.be/nPGykDWbOqk
The only song that climbed instead of going down. I really love the special mood of this song and I can't wait to see it on stage!
6. LauraRizzotto – Funny Girl | LATVIA | -1
https://youtu.be/4b6VDoAW5Dk
I can't get enough of how good this music video is! And in 4k, please! I really hope that she will win Supernova and not some overrated Markus Riva who clearly didn't learn from last time...
5. Alekseev– Forever | UKRA... BELARUS | New
https://youtu.be/iGuqBDOjzJY
Let's be honest, the Russian version is way better... Oh wait sorry, it's a different song :') Don't even get me started on that drama or I'll write you a text even longer than yesterday's... You may think that this song is highly overrated both in this top and in general, but I don't care. I just love the mood and the melody, and even if it sounds better in Russian, the English version is still worthy of a good place at Eurovision, if they don't change the song. Oh, and by the way, this music video is a pure artistic mess :')
4. TamarKaprelian – Poison (Ari Ari) | ARMENIA | New
https://youtu.be/qNtRt-IxDKM
Beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful song, beautiful ethnic elements = winner. Nothing more, nothing less.
3. OrgesaZaimi – Ngrije Zërin | ALBANIA | -1
https://youtu.be/-HdLSfQLe2A
Oh Albania, you made a mistake not sending this. Mall is a very good song, but Ngrije Zërin is of another level... Everything here is good, and she has a memorable look. What else do you want?
2. MÉLOVIN– Under The Ladder | UKRAINE | New
https://youtu.be/T9pAMSAIMwA
Who will get completely robbed by the juries again (though not by Danilko)? And who will once again finish at third place when he deserved to win it all? I think that will happen once again this year; he might win the televote again (never underestimate the power of a fangirl :'), but he will get robbed by the juries and will end up third or lower. And the podium will be shared between Kazka and Tayanna who will recieve support from both juries and public. I already see it pretty well... And if Tayanna's song would be worthy of going to Eurovision, I'm less sure about Kazka's one, to be fully honest.
1. Yesyes– I Let You Run Away | HUNGARY | =
https://youtu.be/uxgL2WrMFD0
Will I ever get enough of how good this song is? Probably not before a very long while. Everything in this song is purely epic, I've been waiting for such a long time to have this kind of songs at Eurovision, and now that it might happen, they are not even favorites... I was also affraid of the revamp, and even if I miss the rap parts, I really like the accordion they added, because it adds something new and original to a song that some might qualify as being "basic". The staging was a bit messy with these backing vocalists and the fact that the backing track was not loud enough, but I'm sure they'll fix it. I really really really wish them to win A Dal, and even Eurovision, and finally bring it to Hungary, because it's been years and years that they have been sending awesome acts but they never won. It's more than time to change that, so why can't we do it this year? :3
Phew, done! It took me more than a full afternoon to write all of the comments for evey song, and another afternoon to gather good songs and to make a top out of them, so I really hope you've enjoyed reading it! I will try to update this top every sunday let's say, and I'll write comments only if I've got something important to say, so I won't do that for evey song.
(This whole part made 3883 words. It's insane xD)
