Hey! Although both school and my new-found affection for anything with a distorted guitar are keeping me quite busy, I still decided that philosophy could wait until I have listened to every leaked Söngvakeppnin song. I won't make a top, because that would take too much time, and also because I honestly can't chose a winner, so here's just my reaction to every song, written while I was listening, in random order:

x Brynja Mary - Augun Þín
She has a nice voice, but how many times have I heard this kind of song already? Besides, not a fan of that kind of minimalist/atmospheric instrumentation. I was basically waiting for it to ed from the first second into the song. 👎

x DIMMA - Almyrkvi
I think I've heard of them before. In any case, the lead singer has a nice vibrato. I really like the verses, especially the instrumentation, but the chorus is quite underwhelming. It's absolutely not forbidden to have a breakdown sort of chorus, but only when it keeps the power and energy of the verses. Here, the energy drops and the song falls flat. I think they should have tried a different strumming pattern in the chorus for the rhythm guitar and ditched that acoustic guitar in the background. I'm a bit disappointed because that song had potential. Besides, you can see by the pointless solo that this song clearly needs more than three minutes to fully develop. 👍

x Daði Freyr - Think About Things
I love this dude! His first attempt was better but I'm glad he's back. The backing track and the delivery complement each other very well, and together give the song an instantly recognizable identity. Unlike DIMMA, there's not balance problem, it all flows together nicely. It also works well within the time limit, and expanding it would not have done the song justice. 👍

x Elisabet - Haunting
Nice bass line. Not really memorable, won't be haunting me for sure. Also please, PLEASE, PLEASE stop with this vocal muting trend. Please. 👎

She has a great voice but I'm not a fan of her tone. It somewhat reminds me of a cheap Dinsey version of Mr Brightside lol I think I has some staging potential, especially when it comes to lights and colors. 👍 I guess

I like it! I feel like I've heard this type of song 10,000 times, but it still works for me. Hope the staging won't be a letdown. 👍

There you have it. Clearly, DIMMA or Daði ftw, but I highly doubt it will happen... people like opera a bit too much apparently.
