Next week's national finals #3

Next week we'll have Melodifestivalen and Melodi Grand Prix, which were meant to be the highlights of this national selections season, but oh well, since quality isn't the word that I would use to describe entries of those two selections, Vidbir and A Dal (I mean, the final of A Dal) kind of stole the show. Anyways, here are my two rankings:

Melodifestivalen 2018 | SWEDEN

I will cover the whole season here, not just the final, by the way - I'll do the final right after the complete top;

28. Jonas Gardell - Det Finns En Väg

What can I say about this? The live completely ruins it.

27. Edward Blom - Livet på en pinne

I like joke entries. But this... I just don't get it.

26. Felicia Olsson - Break That Chain

It's so generic I can't even remember it ;--;

25. Kikki Danielsson - Osby Tennessee

This song creates some atmosphere, which isn't something that I can say about entries 28, 27 and 26, but that's pretty much all.

24. Jessica Andersson - Party Voice

The song itself - the melody and the mood, I mean - is not bad at all, but the lyric "dance like a mother" completely ruined its chances to do well in this top. Sorry Jessica.

23. Elias Abbas - Mitt Paradis

I'm not hating this, it's a fun and entertaining entry, let's say. But I'm not a fan of the way it's presented live and there are stronger uptempo songs in this year's Melodifestivalen.

22. Olivia Eliasson - Never Learn

Her live vocals are a disaster and I don't understand the point of these neon yellow outfits.

21. Dotter - Cry

I'm... I'm not a fan of this kind of experimental music sorry :| But I have to admit that she has a wonderful stage presence!

20. Barbi Escobar - Stark

The song was great... until we reached the drop. It feels like they didn't have the time to actually finish it, so now it feels empty. However, I like the staging; even if she doesn't move, it still feels lively thanks to the dancers.

19. Emmi Christensson - Icarus

Her voice is amazing, the staging is amazing, everything's perfect, so why am I putting this that low? Oh, yeah, right, it's a song contest...

18. Kalle Moraeus & Orsa Spelmän - Min Dröm

Every time I try to remember the melody of Min Dröm I always end up singing Himmel Och Hav and, oh, surpise!, both songs were written by Thomas G:son and Alexzandra Wickman... Anyways, I really like the staging, even if it reminds me a bit too much that summer is coming - bad news for a winter person like me.

17. John Lundvik - My Turn

And here is our overhyped song of the year, yay! I really don't understand why everybody is loving this, as to me it sounds like some kind of bad John Legend reject...

16. Stiko Per Larsson - Titta Vi Flyger

This song somehow reminds me of Into A Fantasy by Alexander Rybak, which is a very good point. This song has an interesting instrumentation that makes it stand out from the rest, in my opinion. The staging wasn't that good, though - I mean the background LEDs.

15. Martin Almgren - A Bitter Lullaby

This is a beautiful ballad... I wish I could remember the melody :/

14. Margaret - In My Cabana

I expected somthing even better than Cool Me Down, but instead we have a sped-up version of Havana, oh well...

13. Mimi Werner - Songburning

I'm still trying to understand the title. If it's a bad pun, I'm out.

12. Moncho - Cuba Libre

I have not the slightest clue why, but I just love his voice :') I'm a bit sad this song won't be in the final...

11. Méndez - Everyday

I actually don't really know whether I prefer Everyday or Cuba Libre, so it was a bit hard to rank those two. At least we'll hear this next Saturday.

10. Sigrid Bernson - Patrick Swayze

Her voice is certainly not the best this year but I don't mind. This song is really catchy and that's pretty much all I'm asking for. Besides, I really like the yellow and black shirts the dancers wore.

9. Rolandz - Fuldans

Readers, guilty pleasure. Guilty pleasure, readers. Look, I know that everybody's putting this one last or 27th, but I just love this. Without knowing exactly why. And I'm glad that this will be in the final.

8. Ida Redig - Allting Som Vi Sa

For some mysterious reason, this song would be the first thing that comes to my mind if someone asked me to define "modern Swedish pop". Don't ask me why, it's just my tired weird brain that's telling me this - no but for real, though, this sounds so Swedish to my French ears :') I've also got the feeling that I've heard this song before, for some other mysterious reasons.

7. Kamferdrops - Solen Lever Kvar Hos Dig

Yeah, so basically I'm the only one that like the song AND the staging? Yeah...

6. Felix Sandman - Verey Single Day

I don't really like the lyrics, but other than that the song is rather bearable, even enjoyable. Will he do a Robin Stjernberg? Everything's possible, especially if we consider the fact that this year's level is pretty bad...

5. Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance You Off

I guess my expectations were waaaay too high for him (but it's not his fault though, it's just that every single time that I see his family name my expectations jump very high, so I think that it's more than time for me to tell to myself once and for all that Benjamin and his cousin Sebastian are two different persons god dammit ;--;). And anyway, I prefer Good Lovin.

4. Renaida - All The Feels

I absolutely love the way the dancers rush on stage when the beat drops 8')

3. Mariette - For You

I only recently discovered the fact that For You, despite the fact that it's her worst entry, isn't that bad. And it's actually pretty good for this year's level. I also like the... thing she's standing on, it's interesting, let's say :')

2. LIAMOO - Last Breath

I was actually really surprised of how good this song is, when I first heard it. This would be a very modern and original - for the ESC bubble, of course - choice from Sweden. I also really like the staging, that really creates a special mood. Let's say that Last Breath would be the "realistic" option.

1. Samir & Viktor - Shuffla

Never in my whole life I would have imagined that I would someday put Samir & Viktor first on my Melfest top. Never. I just love everything about this entry, and especially its simplicity. The main purpose of this song is to entertain people, and it does it very well. After Portugal's victory last year, I need this kind of songs. So maybe for Swedes, it would be quite embarrassing to send this, but we, foreigners and potential voters, don't see it the same way. And by the way - as I don't really see them changing the language of the song - it would be the first entry in Swedish (I mean, from Sweden) since... forever - a shame cause I would love to hear this language more often.

And here's my top 12 of the final;

12. Jessica Andersson - Party Voice

11. John Lundvik - My Turn

10. Martin Almgren - A Bitter Lullaby

9. Margaret - In My Cabana

8. Méndez - Everyday

7. Rolandz - Fuldans

6. Felix Sandman - Every Single Day

5. Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance You Off

4. Renaida - All The Feels

3. Mariette - For You

2. LIAMOO - Last Breath

1. Samir & Viktor - Shuffla

Melodi Grand Prix | NORWAY

10. Alejandro Fuentes - Tengo Otra

This is Norway people, not Spain, so why on Earth would you send a bad latino song to represent this country? You don't know? Me neither.

9. Tom Hugo - I Like I Like I Like

This is fun... but no.

8. Nicoline - Light Me Up

"You're the light to my cigarette"... really?

7. Vidar Villa - Moren Din

Those lyrics though :')

6. Alexander Rybak - That's How You Write A Song

In a way, I'm happy he's back, but I had way higher expectations. After all, he's the one who wrote my favorite ESC song ever...

5. Rebecca - Who We Are

I also expected more from Mørland, but whatever.

4. Stella & Alexandra - You Got Me

This might be a fun entry, but if Stella's vocals are as bad as back in 2011, all the fun suddenly drops.

3. Charla K - Stop The Music

This entry grew on me a lot, and is in my opinion a better downtempo choice than Who We Are.

2. Ida Maria - Scandilove

If there's something that I absolutely love about Norway, it's their amazing sense of humor. I bet the staging will be as funny as the song - hopefully.

1. Aleksander Walmann - Talk To The Hand

Two years in a row? Let's do this!

I can't believe that it took me the whole afternoon to make these two rankings :')
