My mom's reviews • PART 1
I finally made my mother listen to Eurovision songs! :D She's reaaaaaaally hard to please and she loves to criticize stuff, and she's got some (very) unpopular opinions, but still, it was fun to make her review these songs! Plus, keep in mind that she's a 45+ individual who doesn't listen to a lot of music, and when she does, it's usually some old stuff, like 80s or 90s music, so yeah. Don't be rude.
ALBANIA
She said that she doesn't like the Balkan influence in the song. Besides, her dress was a bit off-putting, and she feels like she went over the top with her emotions. It overall felt a bit kitsch and dated to her.
Her grade: 3/10
ARMENIA
She appreciated the fact that it was more modern, but again, she felt like she was trying a bit too hard to "copy American music", and she regrets it was not "original" enough. She wondered whether she was going to bring the dancers with her on stage or not.
Her grade: 5/10
AUSTRIA
She liked this one way more already. She liked Paenda's vulnerability and authenticity, she felt like what she was singing was genuine. However, she said it might be too different from what Eurovision usually shows, and that people won't appreciate the entry enough.
Her grade: 7,5/10
AUSTRALIA
She didn't like the staging that much, because it didn't allow her to move, and the staging thus felt a bit static. Also, the whole staging took away too much attention from the song, which was not musical enough in her opinion.
Her grade: 3,5/10
AZERBAIJAN
SHe liked the visuals of the music video, but the song felt too generic to her.
Her grade: 5,5/10
BELARUS
Lacked some energy (I don't really see what she meant by that, maybe the dance routine was not developed enough? idk) and the song is still not original enough.
Her grade: 4/10
BELGIUM
Again, she said it was a déjà-vu song, and she didn't like Eliot's voice, she found it to be a bit weak.
Her grade: 4/10
CROATIA
Like any normal person, she didn't get the concept of the wings, and wished they were not here to ruin everything. They make the whole performance look a bit ridiculous. The backing track also felt dated to her. However, she really liked his voice, and said it was the only reason she gave him a good grade.
Her grade: 6/10
CYPRUS
Felt generic and meaningless to her. She wonders how she's going to stage it though.
Her grade: 2/10
CZECH REPUBLIC
Pleasant sound, he seems to be a nice guy. I loved her reaction when I told her that Albert is freaking 30 :'D
Her grade: 5/10
DENMARK
(I like how the recommended song after this one was HMS :'D)
Lacks a bit of rhythm and a stronger backing track. It feels genuine though, which she appreciated.
Her grade: 8,5/10
ESTONIA
According to her, this entry has the "complete package for middle-schooler girls": the modern song, the good-looking guy, the theme... ya know. He has a weak voice, but that's not what matters the most at Eurovision. Also, the mystery of the disappearing guitar got her puzzled.
Her grade: 5/10
FINLAND
The girl on top of the cube seems useless to her, and distracting. The song itself is nothing new.
Her grade: 4,5/10
FRANCE
"Hassan Bilani... wait, no... what's his name again?" It has a nice melody, and he has his chances, although she's not a huge fan of the chorus, she likes the verses better. She hopes he'll bring the piano, because she finds that guys playing the piano is visually beautiful (she used to play the piano too, so that might be why).
Her grade: 8/10
GEORGIA
Varada sounds a lot like the Russian word for "beard" barada, so it made her laugh. It was boring to her though, it felt like he was trying hard to hit the emotional cord, to "turn up the tears".
Her grade: 3/10
GERMANY
She sorta liked the song, but wondered why they were singing in English.
Her grade: 5/10
GREECE
She says it reminds her of some song, but she can't pinpoint which one. She didn't like her voice much as well.
Her grade: 4/10
HUNGARY
She's not a huge fan of the style, but she liked that it was original and melodic.
Her grade: 7/10
ICELAND
She absolutely hated Matthías' voice, as well as their overall image (the blood, the BDSM clothing, all of this). So yeah... :|
Her grade: a very disappointing 1/10
ISRAEL
She loved his voice, and the calm atmosphere of the song, as well as the melody.
Her grade: 8,5/10
The next part coming up as soon as I've made her listen to the rest :) Please, don't be rude to her though, it's normal that her opinion's different from the majority's, since we're not from the same generation... And well, we all have the right to have our own opinion, I guess.
