--------------------------------------"ISAAC FOR THE ONE HUNDREDTH TIME, WHEN I ASK YOU WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING 'SLAUGHTERING THE WEAK' IS NOT A SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE ANSWER" Amelia elaborated throwing her arms in the air.
"so what you're saying is you want me to lie" Isaac gasped melodramatically.
"Don't twist my-"
"Because I also beheaded some one once, just to shake things up around here so we can talk about that if you want-"
"You will say you manage pack affairs" Amelia huffed, a little startled by his lack of empathy and openness to such grotesque behavior. He was obviously just saying this to mess with her, right? But Amelia did not ask. She was afraid of his answer and anyway, no way something like that was going to happen now that she was here. They were getting ready to head to her family's house in silver moon and she was last minute quizzing Isaac on dinner small talk etiquette. He could be a little harsh sometimes and the people back home didn't really share his sense of humor.
She would know, she learned the hard way.
"Same thing" Isaac vexed as he entered the bathroom to put on his suit.
Amelia felt her stomach drop just at the mere thought of introducing him to her family. They probably thought she was a disappointment. As the Beta's daughter she had promised to become a fierce leader who stood up for her pack and fearlessly took on their enemies. Now when she had turned eighteen and was old enough to make good on her promises she was returning with enemy number one on her arms.
The man that had caused much destruction and death. She had seen him when his wolf was surfacing, he was cruel and that was when she was his mate. She had never seen him when he was going out to war.
A long time ago, under his father's reign, warriors in her pack had once fought the blood hounds, it was a very bloody battle and they soon enough realized the Blood hounds weren't a pack that stuck to the werewolf law, they were cruel just for the sake of being cruel, they killed just for the sake of spilling blood. Amelia remembered attending the funeral of those twenty two men and having to watch them being mourned by hysterical wives and little children. She had seen what Isaac's father was capable off and she hated him.
But silver moon learned to keep away from the blood hounds after that. Actually they learned to stay away from everyone after that. They isolated themselves until recently.
So she had only heard rumors about Isaac's antics. And according to the rumors Isaac had a personal dungeon in his bedroom where he kept tortured prisoners because the soothing sounds of their terrified screams helped him sleep at night. At least she could cross that one off the list. The dungeon was actually located a good mile from his bedroom.
She had seen the red bane's Alpha visit her pack offering an alliance and she had seen the murderous look in Isaac's eyes when Jake accidentally brought up their name.
Tensions were high. She had to manage to separate pack politics and her relationship with Isaac. They were mates, he had opened up to her about his past, he had been vulnerable in front of her.
The man that didn't let anything faze him had let her little hands grab onto his heart. she couldn't deny him. She didn't want to deny him. And ever since they'd met things were so hectic she never really got a chance to think about their future.
Amelia's internal struggle was interrupted when her mate walked out of the bathroom. The suit looked like it had been carved from the stone of Greek gods and chiseled to perfection just for him. It elaborated his broad shoulders, the sleeves of his jacket clung to his strong toned arms. The dark black color contrasting with his pale skin, blood red lips and bright blue eyes.
He simply looked like magic. He made her feel magic.
"Are...you...um ready?" Isaac coughed looking around awkwardly as Amelia shamelessly stared at him with her mouth open.
She thought he'd use the opportunity to tease her but Isaac looked a little out of his comfort zone as he nervously put his hand in his pocket and ruffled his hair.
Maybe it was because he was anxious about meeting Amelia's large family as he hadn't had the best experience with family in the past. Maybe it was because he'd never had to hang his head down and play nice on territory dominated by wolves that hated him.
Especially since Jake and his gamma-Iris- would be reaching a couple of hours after them as they didn't want to show up looking like they had brought back up. Or maybe the sight of Amelia in her knee length, soft lavender dress, with her hair curled to perfection, long dark lashes and elegant silver heels took his breath away.
Isaac had called a female tailor to help Amelia find something to wear as she had found out the previous clothes she had been wearing were Iris' and refused to come near them with a ten foot pole. What had she expected him to do? Go and actually shop in a mall? With humans? Fucking ridiculous.
They headed into one of Isaac's sleek black cars, a Porsche. Amelia was too busy undressing Isaac with her eyes that she didn't notice him slip his large hands into hers, look her over and fake a cough to get her attention "you look far too lovely to be dressed for my execution."
"Well after they decapitate you, I realised I will be in dire need of another slave, I need to lure them in with something, my personality is not my winning quality"
"You're right, But I prefer a clean slit of the neck, much cleaner and far less dramatic"
"Hmm? and maybe then I could still sell some of your organs on the black market"
"I'm glad to know you don't grieve for very long" Isaac replied drily as his lips twitched, hinting another smile as he kissed her hand.
The night was perfect. Isaac was being a perfect gentlemen. Or as gentlemanly one could be while taking part in conversation regarding debates on the prices of black market dismembered fingers.
"I'm telling you!" Amelia insisted "if they wanted to pay that much for a finger they would've gotten one from a hospital! It's called the back market for a reason."
"You think hospitals sell fingers? I'm sorry but what bloody hospital do you go to?"
"Well I haven't seen it first hand but I assumed-" Amelia laughed but her laughter was cut off as she recognised the familiar land. They were almost at the silver moon border. She was almost home.
She could not wait to put her feet on familiar soil, to run her hands through streams of the forest she grew up in. It had not been long since she was gone. But she was not used to being away from home. Returning brought back a strong sense of nostalgia.
Amelia did not need anyone to tell her exactly where the border lay but none the less stood four silver moon guards, armed like they were ready for war.
Isaac stopped the car in front of them and exited, instructing her to lock all the windows and sit tight, and of course Amelia waved off his warning like one waves off a pesky fly and hoped out of the car.
She was the Beta's daughter, she would not be intimidated by her own. The brunette walked closer to Isaac until the men turned around to face her. Her feet immediately stopped moving after she saw the look of utter disdain on their faces as they glared at her.
She was nauseated. She recognized these men, they were friends of her father, she had babysat their children once upon a time. Now they hated her. She was a traitor in their eyes, she had brought home the enemy- she had betrayed them.
Isaac immediately took stance in front of Amelia. His tall frame trying to protect her from the judgement in their eyes. "Your fight is with me" he growled, his claws coming out at the idea of these men hurting Amelia.
Suddenly a light brown wolf with black patches jumped out of the trees and hurled itself at her mate. She recognized that wolf. It was Blake. The boy she used to talk on the phone with for hours every day. The boy she had pinky promised to be best friends forever with when they were eleven. The boy that was now trying to murder her mate. The men took that as a signal to turn into wolves themselves. Amelia heard the sound of bones cracking before Isaac was outnumbered. One to five.
He stood in the middle of them. Calmly with a slightly bored expression on his face, his hands in his pockets. The wolves attacked him mercilessly but he did not fight back. He clenched his fist and bit back his words.
Why is he not fighting back? Amelia cried at the sight of her mate in danger. Was it because she had made him promise no matter what, they wouldn't fight? He was letting these men hurt him because he didn't want to hurt Amelia.
So Amelia charged towards the five wolves, throwing off her heels as she jumped on the back of a wolf charging for Isaac. "FIGHT DAMMIT!" She yelled at Isaac as the shocked wolf tried to throw her off.
"I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOUR PRIORITY WAS NOT FIGHTING" Isaac yelled back as he dodged an attack while he charged to Amelia's rescue.
But soon enough, realizing that Amelia did not indeed need any rescuing as she used her shawl to cover the wolf's eyes and jumped off before it hit two of the other wolves.
"Are you an idiot? You are my priority" she whispered as she stood next to Isaac, ready to face the angry wolves that started to threateningly approach them again, growling and hissing.
Isaac had to look the other way, to stop Amelia from seeing the smile that threatened to show on his face when he heard her pick him. One of the reasons he didn't fight back was because he thought Amelia would immediately side with the pack she had known all her life and he never wanted to fight Amelia.
But none the less the wolves were thrown aback as the little brunette stood right next to Isaac, her eyes cold and determined, if you fought her mate then you fought her.
