War cry
Amelia sat in the corner of her prison, it was dark, cold, there were long claw marks etched on to the walls and old vomit on the floor.
Being locked like a caged animal was degrading. Who the hell did this pack think they were? And who was their Alpha?
She closed her eyes, trying to figure out their motives when she felt a powerful force arrive, hitting her like a gush of wind.
She could sense the mysterious presence from a mile away. He was an Alpha and some were known to be so powerful that the earth they walked on was said to shake underneath them. But there was something different about him, it could be the dark, gut-twisting power he gave out- nothing like her old Alpha and her instinct told her to be very afraid, that he was the biggest threat she'd ever encountered.
But there was another instinct inside of her, something she didn't know existed, up till now. It told her she was safe, it told her to call out to him, it wanted to see him so badly it was suffocating. It was obviously trying to get her killed.
And frankly, it pissed Amelia off, here she was seconds from seeing the demon that tore her away from her home after sending his people on her land for some shady business and she would be damned before she would let herself feel anything but hate towards him.
Soon enough a dark figure appeared from the shadows. But what really made her hands shake was the large pair of wings on the shadow. Amelia was so terrified she couldn't blink but when she finally did- they disappeared as fast as they had appeared. It approached her slowly, every one of its footsteps teasingly taking their time, as if it enjoyed stalking its prey.
She recognized it as a man and now she was standing right in front of him, her eyes locked on the floor where she saw a pair of shiny expensive shoes.
'At least he has taste.' she muttered sarcastically. She didn't have the nerve to look at his face. She was scared of what she was feeling. Why was it getting harder to breath?
"Look at me." The monster spoke in the most silky smooth voice she'd ever heard.
"Look at me!" It boomed again when she didn't comply.
She did not look at him because he commanded her to, she looked at him so she could tell him to fuck off, to show him Alpha or not she wasn't afraid of him. So she lifted her head arrogantly and her dark chocolate brown eyes were met with light blue ones and everything came undone.
It felt like every single constellation in the sky was aligned. Every mean curse or name she was going to call him was irrelevant. Her body shook with electricity like she had never felt before. She forgot her feet were touching the ground, which mind you was not an easy thing to do. In that moment, she saw them living together, she saw them having picnics, she even saw their goddamn baby for Pete's sake. She couldn't look away and it appears, he couldn't either.
She was so lost in a trance she didn't really register what was happening until he came closer, clutched the bars of the door and growled "mate".
That was when everything broke like shattered glass. Like she had repeatedly jumped on that shattered glass till it pierced deep into her skin.
This was her soulmate, the man with lean muscles she wanted to touch, the man who filled a room with his presence, the man with dark charcoal messy hair and beautiful pale skin. He looked at her with fierce blue eyes that reminded her of the thundery sky she watched when she drank hot chocolate and read her favourite book by the window.
But this was also the man who threw her here, who carried an aura of death and gave out so much dark, gory power it was unnerving. She didn't know what to do with him but somehow, standing there in front of him, she knew that for some unexplainable reason she wouldn't have wanted to exchange him for the world.
Her instincts told her this was it.
This was obviously because some unearthly creature had cast some unthinkable black magic on her.
One of his men thought it was the perfect time to ruin their little moment and approached them from behind. It was a member of her captors, the one who had gripped her arms to make sure she didn't escape.
She had a score to settle with him.
He looked at the Alpha and with pride, announced, "This was the Silver Moon mutt we found lurking around."
'Yeah, I was the one lurking around in my own territory!' Amelia silently cursed with a scowl.
"We couldn't let her escape and inform everyone else of what she had seen. We were going to kill her but then we brought her here first. Thought she might give some useful information. I personally made sure she didn't run away," He said, cracking his fist.
The Alpha looked at him and then looked at bruise marks on her arms.
"So you did that?" he asked calmly, in a bored voice.
"Yes sir." The man answered like he would receive some sort of praise. But to his displeasure, the Alpha gave him a cruel smile, grabbed him by the neck and slowly lifted him up.
"Unfortunately, you managed to piss me off and now you have to die," the Alpha casually whispered the death sentence.
"I di...didn't mean...t-to-" the man coughed out, his body losing more and more oxygen every second, "I didn't...know...ple-"
"Tough luck. I'll see you in Hell," the Alpha smiled with amusement dancing in his eyes and then, there was a terrified scream and a disgusting sound of bones crushing.
Amelia had instinctively closed her eyes but when she warily opened one, she was greeted by the site of the man with a broken neck, lying on the floor, disfigured with blood seeping out and his eyes rolled back. "I hope you are all quick learners," the Alpha spoke to all the men surrounding him, as he stood over the body of the man he had murdered with ice cold eyes.
He then approached Amelia again, unlocked the door with his red, tainted hands. He beamed a smile that made her heart sink. How is he smiling after he just killed his own pack member? Amelia questioned, disgusted. The sounds of the man's horrified, gory screams while the life was sucked out of him, promised to haunt her ears for the rest of her waking life.
He slowly intertwined her hand in his and before she could yank it away, led her through the corridor, past all the terrified faces, bowing down to him in respect and fear.
He led her out of the dungeon and into the sunlight where a huge crowd of scary looking people, more men than women, had seemed to gather. Amelia felt an involuntary sense of power running into the sunlight with him.
It felt pure and freeing, her hand interlocked in his, the mate bond and the electricity in his touch blurred the scene she had just witnessed, making her feel like there was hope for them.
It would have worked, her heart tried to convince her to not judge her mate so early, everyone had bad days, and maybe the man wasn't dead- just super dramatic. Maybe it was that man's last strike. It tried to get her to give into the mating bond.
But Amelia could not forget what she had just seen him do. Amelia refused to forget.
He grabbed her arm and lifted it up. "Brothers and sisters, the moon goddess has once again blessed us with a gift before we go to war! Our Luna was brought here by her grace! Now with her strength we can destroy anyone who dares to stand in the way of the blood hounds' pack!" The crowd of hundreds of men and women roared with approval "we will rip out any weakling's flesh, and feed it to their fathers!"
So he also eats babies? Amelia thought horrified.
The crowd howled like animals and raised sharp, nasty looking knives they all just happened to be carrying around. "We will drain their blood, drop by drop, set their houses on fire, cut off all their limbs until their tortured screams can be heard across oceans! We will be victorious!!" The Alpha roared a war cry.
Throughout this very eventful speech, Amelia stood in the middle of the blood thirsty pack members with many emotions running through her head, and one very dominating thought. What. The. Fuck.
