Meet and greet

Amelia woke up almost twenty four hours later. She stretched her arms, knocking the bed side lamp with a crash and took in the unfamiliar surroundings.

"Sleeping beauty- wait no, I mean the sleeping lawn mower finally awakes," the Beta greeted her after he heard the sound of a crash coming from her room.

"It's always nice to know I can wake up to faces that make the centaurs in my dreams look like kittens."

"Were you being chased by centaurs? Is that why you were snoring so much and knocking things in your sleep?" He replied as he stared at the lamp on the floor, looking amused.

"You were watching me sleep?" She asked in a threatening tone.

"Well the television wasn't working and-" he joked but shut up after remembering the girl in front of him just took on Gloria, probably wasn't a good idea to get on her bad side so early in the morning.

"kidding ha ha. The Alpha told me to keep on checking up on you, like every two minutes, don't kill the messenger," he put his hands up in mock surrender "but boy, do you sleep a lot."

"Great, so he couldn't find a more pleasant person than you, even Hitler would do at this point," Amelia said yawning and rubbing her eyes to prevent all the hate from seeping through.

"Sorry, my father's dead, you'll just have to bare with me."

"How long have I been asleep and where is Isaac?" She ignored him.

"You've been asleep for almost a day, it's seven AM, Isaac had business so he left me in charge. But you won't have time to worry about him. Everyone in the pack is dying to meet you- don't understand why though," he whispered the last part to himself as he exited her room and told her to get dressed.

Amelia took a shower, washing all the dirt in her hair, before she could ask anyone for something to wear, seeing her clothes were not capable of being worn anymore, she found a couple of nice dresses in the drawers. She wasn't a dress kind of person but it was better than having to ask the Beta because then she'd have to talk to him.

After Amelia got dressed, she looked at her options. She had to contact her family. She needed to get her hand on a phone. She would figure out what to do from there. Before she had time to contemplate the Beta appeared.

Apparently he was right, the massive living room in Isaac's house was full of people. They all stood under the chandeliers as they hooted and patted her back when she crossed through.

"Luna, it is a pleasure to meet you," an older man with green eyes from the crowd came up and introduced himself "my name is Mathew, I'm the guard in power, it will be an honor to serve you," he bowed.

What the hell Amelia thought looking at their prideful faces. She figured they had accepted her in the pack after she beat Iris but she didn't expect this much of a warm welcome. Escaping would be much more complicated now.

She made small talk with all the officials in the pack and recounted the story of how she got the rod from Iris as they laughed. Iris was one of the most respected members here. She lost one fight and they turned their back on her Amelia reminded herself it was eat or be eaten here.

She told them how she was so happy to be here. Lie. She told them how she got along great with Isaac and her pushing him into the field was just a good natured joke. Another lie.

She wanted to leave. Them loving her so much, especially after how they were prepared to see her die two days ago was alarming.

Finally, she managed to excuse herself to get something to eat. She walked towards a table with an array of food displayed on it, varying from steak to pasta to fancy looking pizza.

She grabbed a plate, some sandwiches, fries and fled before anyone trapped her into having another conversation.

She found a quiet spot outside the hall. Amelia could finally breath. She took a bite of her delicious sandwich. The food tasted so good in her mouth it made her moan.

"Oh shit, the lawn mower's broken, she's making strange noises," said the wonderful voice that had the audacity to not know when he was not wanted.

"Get lost," she told the Beta.

He approached her and attempted to take a fry from her plate. "Take my fries and I take your pathetic life," Amelia said in the most serious voice she could muster.

"Well, looks like someone's on their time of the month." He answered back

"Do you always have to be so damn annoying?" She growled.

"You started it!"

"What a blatant lie!" Amelia accused.

"I came here to make peace with my best friend's mate!" The Beta exclaimed.

"Never thought Isaac was capable of having friends, but you two are two peas in a pod, if you were a girl you could get married and spawn his devil children." She decided stuffing food into her mouth. They would make quite a couple.

"That's your job, and you wouldn't think I was so bad after you gave me a chance!"

"You held me hostage!" She defended herself.

"You spit water on me!" The Beta tried.

"You held me hostage!"

"You called my face ugly and said I had a squeaky voice!"

"BECAUSE YOU HELD ME HOSTAGE!" Amelia bellowed.

"Are you still not over that? It's getting kind of old" he waved off.

"Like your face," Amelia muttered taking a sip of water.

"And there you go again! Can we please leave my youthful face out of this?" the Beta plead.

"What's your name?" Amelia asked.

"Jake, why?"

"So I know what name to put on your grave stone after I murder you. Jack? Short for jackass? Fitting" she continued to eat.

"Jake."

"Jane?"

"JAKE!"

"Why would someone name their child cake?"

"You can seriously hold a grudge," Jake muttered.

"I'll think about decreasing the intensity of said grudge if you let me call Isaac, tell me where the phone is."

The Beta stared at her skeptically.

"Come on, you know what happens when you take a cranky female's mate away from her. It's worse than when you take away her fries."

"Fine...go two lefts through that corridor, the third door on your right has a telephone," Amelia nodded and skipped happily.

She entered the room and dialed her brother's number.

Beep beep beep

"Hello?" The voice picked up.

"Ashton, it's me" she felt choked up, she missed him so much.

"Amelia?! Shit where have you been? Dad's going loco! Everyone's worried!!"

"Minor technicalities, I just wanted to let you know I'm alive and well, I'll figure a way out so just tell mom and dad I'm fine and to not worry."

"NO! Stop bullshitting and tell me where you are now!" Ashton demanded, protective over his little sister "if you don't, I'll track this number down and you won't like what happens after that."

"Ok geez, I ran into some wolves from the Blood hounds pack when I was patrolling the borders, they kinda took me with them...you know...the more the merrier?"

The line went dead silent and Amelia could hear her brother's raged breaths.

"I'm going to kill them."

"No Ashton we have to be smart about this, they're obviously planning something against us, I'll find out what, you attacking now would cause unnecessary deaths and zero answers. You know we can't afford any casualties." Amelia reasoned.

"If you were taken hostage, why aren't you in the dungeons. That pack is known to be ruthless. What aren't you telling me?" He questioned.

"Well...I kinda...sorta found my mate here."

Dead. The line was dead again.

"THOSE FUCKERS. WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE ONE OF THOSE FUCKERS, I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BLAKE!" He yelled referring to Amelia's best friend. She missed him.

"SHHHH. At least now you know that I'll be safe, no one lets their mate get hurt. I'm protected." Amelia said remembering the way Isaac tossed her on the floor, wanting her to beg for her life.

"Ok, you're right. That's true. Lay low. I'll figure something out. You have to check up with me twice a day or I'm heading straight there ok?"

"I have to go now and I don't know if that'll be possible-" Amelia tried.

"OK?" Ashton repeated, sounding more like a statement than a question.

"Ok" Amelia agreed saying good bye to her brother.

She headed out to find Jake standing where she left him. "What did Isaac say?" He questioned.

"Oh you know...that he's busy and he'll take a while."

"Oh," he looked at her solemnly "well hate to break it to you sweetheart but you talked to the wrong Isaac, because your mate's been asking for you for the past ten minutes." He pointed.

Amelia felt a hole burning through her head and slowly turned to see a furious looking Isaac, leaning against the wall, growling behind her.
