Day 5 Hunting At Night & An Unlikely Friend

'Wolffe are you sure you're ready for this?' Kurt said with a fatherly tone and it made you feel a little uneasy.

You and everyone else were sitting around the small Television listening to the British announcer 'WAR!'  it said on the screen of the T.V "Like a dark shadow, the sinister specter of Fascism spreads across Europe." The announcer said before continuing "Stuka dive-bombers hover like vultures over Poland." The announcer said recalling the invasion of Poland "It is not long before Denmark and Holland fall, ground beneath the heel of Hitler's lightning war." This boosted most of the men's moral "This is a new type of warfare that waits for no man. Now France finds herself under siege." That sentence brought a smirk to your face "It is only a matter of time before the combined might of the German army and airforce breach her borders." One of the ground crew gave you a pat on the back in return you shook his hand "Make no mistake war approaches Britain with all the force and fury of a stormfront." The announcer stated, trying to raise the moral of the British soldiers "Just as shadows lengthen with the setting of the sun, so too will Hitler's evil spread." The announcer said now tiring from the script in-front of him "He will not stop, he will not rest until every corner of the globe is covered in darkness." He finished off the speech with "We must make ready and steel ourselves for the incoming storm." The T.V flickered before saying 'THE END!' 

Kurt said "Alright be on the flight line by 0600 tomorrow, were moving on France." Everyone let out a tremendous cheer before starting to leave "Wolffe are you sure you're ready for this?" Kurt said with a fatherly tone and it made you feel a little uneasy. "I'm ready for this, I'm going to keep my promise I made to my Father."  You said annoyed by Kurt before storming off but not before hearing Kurt say "Wolffe you'll be my wingman on this mission."  You slammed the door -SLAM-, too hard -Creek- -Thud-  "Oh Scheiße!" You said before sprinting away.

'Let's just say you got off lightly.' 

The Next Day (0000) Midnight

You woke up after hearing a howl from the nearby forest,  it took you a couple minutes to get into your flight-suit, you opened the door to leave the room but when you did all you heard was"Shut the fucking door please."  Muttered from everyone you sneaked out closing the door behind you and thank God Marcus was wasted and about to pass out,  you crouched down to pickup his Kar98k with your left hand but not before hearing something that made you shudder "I love ya man." He said drunkenly before collapsing face first into muddy water, you were about to move him but he rolled over, so you headed towards the forest. 

You saw a deer 1 mile away, you readied the rifle but it was hard to do since it wasn't designed for Left Handed users, eventually you managed to get into a comfortable firing position by then you were 250 meters closer to the deer.  The cold night air stung your exposed face making you unfocused so you decided to pull down your goggles over your eyes and strap on your mask, you could hear your own heavy breathing echoing in your headset.  You focused on the deer your finger squeezing around the trigger, you inhaled then took the shot -Bang-   you heard the shell casing of the bullet hit the ground but you saw the deer slump over dead.  But something heard that shot "Grrr!" Was what you heard and it was close, that's when you saw it and it was a White Wolf just like on your plane's nose art. 

The Wolf's ferocious amber eyes stared at you intensely,  you thought this was the end so you closed eyes and thought about how you'd get to see your family again.  But the Wolf did something that surprised you it whined, that's when you realized it was only few months old, you held out your right hand and the Wolf sniffed it then started to lick it after a moment it stopped so you started to scratch behind the Wolf's ear and the Wolf loved this it's back leg started circling around quickly,  right the you knew you made an unlikely friend. The Wolf rolled on it's back then you knew the Wolf was a female wolf "Hmm what should I call you?" You said quietly to yourself, you blinked your eyes and the Wolf was gone 'What the? It must have been my imagination.' You thought before blinking again this time the Wolf reappeared 'I know what I am going to call her.' You thought "What about Shadow?" You said after thinking for a few seconds -Bark-   you chuckled before saying "Come one Shadow let's get you something to eat." Shadow barked excitedly. Following you to the deer you shot, you pulled out your knife cut off the antlers of the deer, Shadow whined you just sighed before saying "Alright go on Shadow." You smiled when you saw her circling around the dead deer, -Howl-  "Do you want me to cut it open for you?" Shadow immediately barked at your response signaling that yes she did want you to cut it open,  so you did it almost as soon as you backed away from it Shadow rushed forward to the deer, you chuckled when saw her starting to play with her food.
