7- Jeriard
Rose's POV
Two weeks I've been living with Jeriard, and he can be playful at times, but at others he's serious. Rule #1 has long been broken.
Outside, Jeriard would run around and I would throw a Frisbee so he could chase it. I still haven't seen him as a wolf, yet. He would pick me up and kiss me if it would start raining, which only happened twice. One time, Jeriard threatened to tickle me and I was chased into the big weeping willow tree, but he kicked the tree and I fell out, landing in his arms.
During those two weeks, I'd see him lying on the couch alone so I would go and snuggle into his strong, safe chest, as he watched his favorite channel, Animal Planet. We had food fights in the kitchen and we wrestled on my bed; Jeriard always won. I felt like I knew him forever.
Currently it was Saturday, I was on my bed asleep as the birds chirped and when the sun peeked through my window, I opened my eyes and yawned. I slowly slid off my red bed and changed into some sweat pants and one of Jeriard's baggy shirts, which had a wolf snarling on it. I exited my room, walked through the hall lined with photographs, and appeared at the kitchen, where Jeriard held a plate of pancakes.
The aroma wafted to my nose. "Mmmmmmh... Smells delicious and the pancakes aren't that bad, either," I said with a smirk.
He laughed and quickly kissed me on the forehead. He placed the plate at the middle of the dining table. I immediately took four steaming pancakes with my hand. Jeriard grabbed my wrist. "You're going to burn yourself," he explained, releasing his grip. I stuffed a whole pancake into my mouth.
"Don't worry about it! I don't get burned," I replied.
Jeriard lifted a questioning eyebrow. I swallowed. "I don't know, but I've been trying to burn myself and all that happens is that I feel heat or the flame avoids me. By the way, can you buy me like a lighter," I explained.
Jeriard nodded then suddenly threw something toward me. I quickly caught it; I noticed it was silver lighter with a wolf's engraving on it. I stood from the dining table and made my way to the red couch. I examined the wolf engraving. The wolf was black, it's claws thick and dark, and it's eyes were a glowing green, like Jeriard's. That's when all the pieces came together. Everything went black around me.
Through the darkness of my unconscious body, I saw myself as a little girl. I remember this day, it was the day my best friend told everyone that I had a crush on the new emo kid, but he wasn't emo, he just had really long black hair and his clothes were always slightly ripped. After my friend told everyone about my secret I ran home early from school that day. Before I was able to get to my house a small, black wolf had suddenly blocked my path. I had skid into a halt and the glowing green eyes of the wolf peered straight into my soul. Everything turned black once again, bringing me back into reality.
I gasped for air as I looked around Jeriard's house. I sighed. I started feeling light headed and my eyes were burning. I was on the floor with Jeriard on his knees looking at my face. "You remember, don't you?" he asked.
He helped me sit upright and against the couch. "I think I just got a vision or something. I saw myself in the past and I saw a wolf, a black wolf," I looked at the lighter in my hands, "This is you isn't it? And the wolf I saw when I was younger?"
He nodded. "So, I don't understand. This wasn't the first time I've met you?" I asked.
He sighed. "I've been watching over you since you were about five years old," he told me.
"But why?"
"I heard a voice in my head, it told me that you were destined to fight along side wolves against the werewolves. I felt like it was telling the truth, because the voice sounded desperate, as if it was pleading for me to hear it out. It told me you were the only hope of winning a war that would erupt, and keeping peace and balance to this world. So, I was told to protect you at all costs and it informed me that once you learned that you have abilities, that's when the werewolves will start to hunt us both down to prevent you from stopping them. You and I are some kind of weird prophecy, we must fight in that war and win," he explained.
This was all so fascinating, when I know I should be freaked out that I have to fight in some kind of battle. "That little boy that I had a crush on... uh... was that you?" I asked, nervously.
Jeriard nodded. "You had a crush on me?" he smirked.
I blushed and tried to hide my face, but Jeriard lifted my head by the chin and kissed my lips, which resulted in my eyes to burn.
"Tell me a little more about wolves and werewolves," I suggested. Maybe if I knew more, I would actually be of some help.
"Well, wolves are born as wolves, but they can shift into a human at any time they like. I was told pup stories about how a god believed that wolves were so powerful and intelligent that they acted so close to humans that he gave wolves the power to change into humans. Us wolves stay in our own pack. We have a leader wolf who basically governs the pack, the Alpha, he is the strongest and, most of the time, the smartest of the wolves in the pack. The Alpha wolf can banish any wolf, they usually have a second in command, the Beta, but there can be more than one Beta depending on how strong of a pack they are. The Beta is in charge of checking and strengthening territory borders, and training wolves for hunts. Now, werewolves are a little more complicated. They are born as humans, but human born werewolves are rare, but can still happen. These only begin to have werewolf powers after they have a life changing event. They usually leave their human family to join a werewolf pack, but it's not always easy because werewolves don't like taking care of human born werewolves, because they don't like to waste time on someone so weak. Not being able to join in werewolf packs, human born werewolves try to stay with their human family, but those werewolves end up fleeing due to accidentally killing their family. Werewolves get a temper that is difficult to control. Wolves on the other hand can control their temper fairly easily," Jeriard explained.
I tilted my head and thought. "You forgot about how werewolves can turn humans into werewolves during a full moon, and wolves can't. And which one is better?"
"Werewolves can't turn humans into werewolves, this isn't a story book. They usually just eat or kill humans depending on the situation. But, werewolves are bigger, stronger, and faster than wolves, but some wolves get much larger than the other wolves, because of a gene that may become altered at birth," Jeriard continued.
"So, wolves are naturally weaker? Then why are you going to war? Doesn't that mean we are going to lose?" I asked.
"Wolves still have something werewolves will never have and that's you."
"Me? I'm going to help win the war? What else do wolves have that werewolves don't? I can't do this all by myself," I asked, I was starting to panic. I don't know if this 'god' or what ever has its head in check to think I can win a war by myself.
"We also have instinct, and we are a lot smarter," Jeriard chuckled.
I smiled. I learned so much today. Now it's time for me to get a hang of my own power. I examined the lighter one more time and I noticed the wolf's outline shimmered with gold. I'm going to enjoy staying with Jeriard.
Suddenly, Jeriard grabbed my hand and looked into my eyes, they started burning, then, I heard Jeriard's voice. "Rose," he came dangerously close to my lips, eyeing them with hunger, "Rose will you be my girlfriend?"
My eyes burned the most they ever had, "Of course, forever."
He licked his lips and pressed them against mine, pulling me into a passionate embrace as my eyes burned intensely. I am so looking forward to our time together for the rest of our lives.
