-Prologue-
For as long as Astra could remember, she's been alone. Her quirk kept away any potential friends and if that didn't do the trick, the kids at her school would make sure she never had anyone to call a friend. She could handle being alone, she always has but Astra has a dream. A dream not a lot of people believe she can accomplish.
Astra wants to be a hero.
Ever since she was little, she's admired heroes and all that they do to make the world a better place to live in. They always made her smile whenever times were tough so she wants to give that feeling to someone else. The feeling of being able to relax and be carefree. Astra knows that her reasons may not seem...admirable to others but it's good enough for her.
Her quirk though, her quirk is something she has to work on. Astra's quirk has always been viewed as villainous because of the nature of it. She didn't blame them. If she met someone with a quirk like her's she would've been scared too. Now you're probably wondering what this 'villainous quirk' is. Well you see Astra has the ability to control life forces or more commonly known as souls. She can absorb and control the souls of other living things. Yes that includes other humans.
Don't get her wrong she loves her quirk and wouldn't trade it for anything. But maybe she's a little tired of being alone. So here she was, sitting in her classroom as her teacher asked them what they were going to do in terms of high school. "Now I know you all want to get in to the Hero course—" Most of Her students interrupted her by cheering loudly at the mention of the Hero course some even activating their quirks.
The teacher glared at her unruly students which made them all quiet down not wanting to face her wrath. "As I was saying, I know you all want to get into the Hero Course but first where are you all going to high school?" The teacher asked causing Astra to gulp at the question. She really wanted to go U.A as it's one of the best hero school in the country but she didn't know she had to say it into of the whole class.
But Astra isn't ashamed of her dream and she never will be so she declared, "I'm going to go to U.A!". Silence followed as her classmates gave her sneers and snarls before laughing hysterically. Even the teacher seemed to be holding back a chuckle. "You going to U.A? Man that's priceless!" One of her classmates laughed like a hyena. "I know right?" Someone added also laughing.
"I'm serious." Astra said to them which made all the laughter stop immediately. Did they really think she was joking? "Miss Yamazaki, I encourage you to think more realistic. I mean, U.A's acceptance rate is only one out of three hundred. Wouldn't you want someone more deserving from this school to go there?" The teacher asked, a sickly sweet smile on her face.
Astra clenched her fists at her teacher's words. She knew about U.A's low acceptance rate but she still had to try. If she didn't at least try then she'd never forgive her for it. "I-I refuse. I refuse to sit back just so everyone here can go achieve their dreams while I watch from the sidelines." Astra glared at her teacher who looked shocked at the fact she was talking back. "So Mori-Sensei with all do respect it's you that's not thinking realistically."
The teacher gasped at her before an angry look appeared on her face. "Get out of my classroom and go to the principals office right now, young lady." The teacher yelled at her. Astra sent a glare towards her snickering classmates before she packed up her things and walked to the door of the classroom. Astra opened the door and walked out of the classroom making sure to slam it behind her.
Astra began her long walk to the principals office her mind focused on what was to happen next. Not many people believed she could achieve her dream and those who did only put a little of their faith in her. Maybe they hoped she'd realize how dumb it was for someone like her to be a hero especially with a quirk like hers.
"To think someone can't be a hero simply because of their quirk...how pathetic and small minded." Astra muttered. Before she even knew it she was at the front office. She opened the door and stepped inside giving the receptionist a nod in greeting. Astra sat down in one of the chair's as the receptionist smiled sympathetically.
"Did those kids give you trouble again, Yamazaki-San?" The receptionist asked the violet hair girl who just shrugged her shoulders. "It's not nothing I haven't faced before but this time Sensei decided to send me to the office." Astra said looking out the window. The receptionist's face morphed into one of anger. How come those kids are aloud to pick on her and yet she gets sent to the office for the littlest of things?
"What happened?" The receptionist asked Astra. "We were talking about where we wanted to go for high school so I said I wanted to go to U.A but they all just laughed. Then Mori-Sensei told me to 'think more realistically' and that 'one of the other students deserves it more than you'. So I talked back. Told her that I wasn't going to sit back and let my dream die. It's not my fault she's so simple minded." Astra said slumping in her seat.
The receptionist smiled at her reassuringly. "U.A is a tough school to get into but you're a smart girl so I just know you'll make it." Astra smiled at the words suddenly feeling a lot better about being sent to the office. Before Astra could reply however, the door to the principals office opened and the principal stepped out sighing at the sight of her.
"What is it this time, Yamazaki?" The principal sighed. As you can tell Astra and the principal are really good friends. "I didn't do anything. I was merely defending myself." Astra said to the principal who just looked like he wanted school to be over. "Come in my office. And Takashi," the receptionist turned to face him at her name. "Call Miss Yamazaki's guardian." The receptionist nodded before sending the girl another look filled with pity.
Astra didn't return the look as she walked into the office before plopping herself down in one of the chairs. The principal closed the door and took a seat in his own chair. "You have to stop doing this." The principal started. "You're only hurting yourself in the end. So please just ignore them." Astra looked pissed at what the principal was implying. "But I haven't even done anything! It's not my fault everyone at this school hates me."
"I know it's not your fault but kids will be kids." The principal said looking at her with pointed eyes. "You did not just use the old 'kids will be kids' line! This is total bullsh-" Astra was cut off when the principal slammed his hand onto his desk. "We're done talking about this, Yamazaki. Go back out there and wait for your guardian to come pick you up."
Astra shoot up from her seat storming out of the office. She slammed the door like she had done in class before sitting back down in her seat. After what seemed like hours, Astra's caretaker finally arrived. A old woman around her 60's slowly walked through the door. Astra stood up to greet her while the woman smiled sadly at her.
"Come now, Astra." The old woman said to her. "Yes, Mrs. Ito." Astra replied letting the old woman hold onto her arm so she could walk better. The two left the office and started making their way towards the exit of the school.
"I'm sorry I dragged you away from the kids, Mrs. Ito." Astra apologized making the old woman chuckle. "It's quite alright dear. I could use a break every now and then. Beside Kaname is watching them for me." Mrs. Ito said as they exited the school.
"Still though..I'm sorry for causing you trouble (again)." Astra apologized. "You have nothing to be apologize for my dear. You did what you thought was right and for that I couldn't ask for more. You have dreams. Don't let them turn to dust because other people believe them to be foolish." Astra smiled at her. Mrs. Ito was always one of the people who supported her dreams when others didn't.
"Thank you, Mrs. Ito." She thanked smiling at the little old lady who smiled back. "No problem, dear. Now let's get back before the children murder Kaname." Astra laughed at that before leading them to the car. Her day hadn't been one of the best but that's okay. She's still going to be a hero because that will never change. It's people like Mrs. Ito that make her want to be one. She'll sacrifice everything if that's what it takes.
Maybe that's the essence of being a hero
