-Chapter 1-
Astra sighed as she had almost finished the paperwork for her to go to U.A's entrance exams. She had mostly filled out everything by herself with the exception of Mrs. Ito filling out the parental part of the paperwork. All she had left to do was to list her quirk's name and then she'd be done.
"Hmm.." Astra hummed looking at the spot where the name is supposed to go thoughtfully. She had never really thought of a name for her wayward quirk. It had to be something to do with souls and spirits. "Maybe Essence." Astra murmured tapping her pencil against her chin. "Yeah, Essence sounds good."
Astra wasted no time in writing down the new name for her quirk. Astra sighed in relief knowing that she had completed all the proper paperwork for the entrance exam into U.A . She quickly stacked all the papers into a neat pile before putting them in her school bag. "There all set." Astra smiled trying to think about what she should do next. She had already completed all her homework and the paperwork was the last thing on her to do list.
"Astra-san! Astra-san!"
Astra turned around just in time for a pair of tiny arms to wrap around her legs. "Gotcha!" The child squealed adorably. Astra sighed at this unwrapping the child's arms from her legs so she could carry him. "Hello Yamamoto. Aren't you supposed to be with Kaname right now?" The violet haired girl asked the small child who shook his head at the name.
"But Kaname's soooo boring! It's like he wants us to fall asleep when he's talking. He also smells weird." The kid whined. Astra couldn't help but snort at that. Kaname definitely isn't the most interesting person she's ever met but still....
"Yamamoto. I know Kaname's extremely dull and boring and maybe he does smell sometimes but he still takes care of you. And you have to respect him." Astra said sternly which made the kid look down in shame. Astra felt guilty at seeing Yamamoto's crestfallen face so she knelt down so she was eye to eye with him. "Look.." Yamamoto looked up as she began to speak. "How about if I show you my quirk then you go back and listen to Kaname, okay?"
Yamamoto seemed to brighten at the prospect of seeing Astra's quirk. She never really showed it often to anyone so all the kids were curious about what her quirk was. "Yes! Yes!" The kid jumped up and down at this, smiling excitedly causing Astra to giggle at his cuteness.
"But you can't tell anyone. This is our little secret okay?" Yamamoto nodded eagerly at this agreeing to her terms. Astra took a deep breath and stood up. Yamamoto looked confused by this but didn't say anything. Astra walked over to her window sill grabbing two things from it. Astra walked back over to where Yamamoto was now sitting gazing at up at her curiously.
Astra sat down and placed the two items on the floor. The items were two plants, one plant was shriveled up and close to dying while the other was in full bloom and absolutely beautiful. Astra held one hand over each of the plants taking a deep breath so that she could focus. Her right hand, that was over the healthy rose, started to glow a tinted red.
Yamamoto watched in wonder as a green light started floating out of the rose causing it to slowly shrivel up and grow weak. Eventually the green light fade away now fully absorbed by Astra. "My quirk gives me the ability to absorb the souls of other living things." Astra explained before her left hand started to glow a bright neon green. "I can put this soul in a damaged body to help it heal or I could keep it for myself."
Astra remover her hand from the dying rose only to find it wasn't dying anymore. The life force from the other rose made it grow. Yamamoto had never seen anything like it before! "You have the most amazing quirk!" He exclaimed. Astra felt an embarrassed blush coat her face since no one had ever complimented her quirk before.
However before Astra could say anything back, her door was slammed open. "Yamamoto!" A voice called out angrily. A young man most likely in his late twenties stepped into the room. He had crimson red hair with hazel eyes that were hidden behind a pair of old glasses. He was cover in paint, glue, and other arts and crafts items.
"There you are! Get back here, you little brat!" The man tried to lunge at Yamamoto but the child hide behind Astra who was looking up at him with an amused smirk. "Don't let him hurt me, Astra-San!" Yamamoto squealed. "Why are you protecting him? He's the reason I'm such a mess!" The man yelled at her which she seemed unaffected by.
"You're the reason you're such a mess, Kaname." Astra said standing up from the floor. Yamamoto hid behind her legs as a shield. "Don't you give me flack, little missy! I already get enough of that from these brats." He snapped pointing at Yamamoto who was peeking his head out from behind Astra's legs.
"Calling them brats won't help your situation, you idiot. They'll only want to tease you more if they think they can get a rise out of you." Astra sighed. "And you're supposed to be the adult of this place so start acting like it." Astra crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him.
An anime arrow shoot right into his head at the teenager's words. "I am the adult here! Now come along Yamamoto, we have to go clean up the mess you and the other kids made." Yamamoto looked reluctant to go with him but decided to comply when Astra smiled at him. She almost never smiles around other people so seeing it made him happy.
"Okay.."
With that Yamamoto left the room with Kaname leaving Astra to her own devices. She looked at her backpack for a second before picking up the two plants and placing them back on the window sill. Astra looked out the window at the Sakura tree that stood so close to it. She could see some kids playing in the courtyard.
She's been there for long that she almost forgot how beautiful the cherry blossom trees are. "Sakura Blossom Orphanage.." Her tone was a bitter one as she gazed at the telltale trees that were a symbol for the orphanage. "How long has it been? Ten maybe eleven years? I honestly don't know anymore." Astra sighed stepping away from the window.
She shook her head in an attempt to ward off any unwanted thoughts. That was the past and this is now. She needed to focus on U.A right now. The entrance exams were in ten months so she needed to concentrate on training her quirk.
