Chapter 9
I was sitting opposite Vronterror in his carriage as we were heading to town, I had no intention of starting conversation with him and he had no problems with. For all I new he was undressing me with his eyes, he kept starring at chest for the whole trip but I enjoyed the scenery outside. Trying hard to ignore his smug look.
Finally we were here Chalmville still looking cheerful as ever, all the bright colours lightened up my mood. The crocodile stepped out first I was about to step out then he held his hand out, I am not touching that! So I ignored his kind gesture and stepped out on my own. He took a deep breath and looked around to see if people saw anything. Now you know how it feels to be humiliated.
"So what do you want to see first?" I asked kindly but didn't look at him I tried to find other things to look at. I noticed an old man with dark eyes and a long grey beard kept starring at me, I smiled at him and he smiled back showing pearly white teeth.
"I would like to find a Jeweler." He said eyeing me. What? He wants diamonds now? I hope he's apologizing for reporting me to my mother. "I am buying something for a friend of mine." So he does have friends. I took him to the nearest craftsmen at the same time I was asking who this friend was. He just said that he was someone from home, and that was all... We were at the front door but he told me that he would rather find something on his own. Why would he invite me to town if he was going to shop alone? So I headed for a little flower shop that was just around the corner, on the inside there were so many different smells that my nose almost couldn't handle. Roses, daisies, lilies and my favourite the moon flowers. They glow and bloom in moon light and have a heavenly scent. I thought about getting daisies for my maid Daisy and red roses for Bow, I'd bought the flowers but I stayed to look at the moon flowers. I breathed in its scent then I smelt rotten fish and salt. I searched the room then the old man popped up in front of me.
"Hello you seem like a nice lady and you look like you have a good taste with flowers. Please tell me what I should get for my wife? Her birthday is today so I wanted to get something that shows how much she means to me." He asked his voice seems familiar. I showed him a sweet smile but why is he coming to me?
"Well ah... Hello first of all do you know what her favourite flowers are?" I asked him his eyes were so familiar? He shrugged.
" She has many favourites."
"Alright well roses are a sign of romance. Red roses of course. Lilies I've heard are quite romantic too." I suggested. We walked along and looked at all the different types of flowers.
"May I ask what your favourite is?" I paused and looked at him.
"Moon flowers." I responded with a smile, he smiled back at me. What am I doing talking to some stranger I don't even know his name. "I’m sorry sir I never asked for your name?" I asked politely he hesitated.
"Peter may I ask yours?" He asked eagerly,
"Lady Drago but you can call me Silvana." I said and clapped his hands together. And pulled off his beard, I new I recognized him!
"I new I'd get your name!" He exclaimed excitedly. How could I have not recognized him? Honestly!
"Pete! You tricked me!" I whispered harshly at him, he seemed amused and I didn't like it.
"I didn't trick you I just didn't tell you who I was." He gave me a fake impression of looking innocent. I have to say I was kind of... happy. Of course I'd never admit it. To anyone!
"What are you doing here? I thought you would be gone after that incident with the guards." I said in a lower tone looking around the making sure no one was eavesdropping. He picked up a rose that was in a vase next him. He took a whiff of it then handed it to me.
"Roses the sign of love." He responded for that I did not accept the rose. When he saw I wasn't going to take it he held it in his hand. "My crew and I have some unfinished business."
"Your crew... You’re a captain of your own ship?" I asked completely surprised. He can't be he is too young to be captain.
"Well... yes." He answered crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow. I must say I 'm impressed the guy has power and freedom; I think I could get along with this man.
"Interesting."
"Interesting?" He asked
"Yes interesting," I looked at him with a smug smile and evil eyes. Then I noticed Vronderos outside the shop looking for me. Pete noticed him as well.
"Who is he?" He questioned.
"A crocodile I know."
"Crocodile? Ha! He looks more like some pompous twit!" He said. I was so close to bursting out laughing so glad I can control myself. I tried to give the impression that I was appalled at his comment but I think he could see the amusement in my eyes because his smile widened. I looked away from him and headed for the door. Vronderos opened the door for me giving me that mischievous grin again. I stood in front of him then looked back through the window in the flower shop. Pete was there wearing his beard again still holding the rose in his hand.
"Found anything you like in there?' Vronderos asked. I turned to face him his smile had completely gone. I started walking and he walked with me standing uncomfortably close.
"No, I was just observing. How about you? Found what you’re looking for?" I asked. The streets were filled with happy people, everyone wore bright coloured clothing. The women in bright coloured gowns, some in yellow, lime green and a few in pink. Even some of the men wore dazzling vibrant colours. Vronderos and I appeared to be the odd ones out. I in a dark green gown and he in a black cape, leather pants and a white puffy shirt. I waited for his answer but he stopped and eyed at the portal travelers tents and caravans.
"There are portal travelers in your city!" He said harshly. I looked at the big tents then turned back to him.
"Yes they always come, is there an issue?"
"You allow them in your town."
"Well no the king has banished them but he never has to know." I said looking at him worried at what he'll say next.
"We should report them to the king." He said. I was shocked!
"No! Why? There not doing anything wrong." I exclaimed. Was he trying to cause trouble?
"They are selling forbidden merchandise! Come we must go report them." He turned and started to head off. I was shaken I had to figure out a way to stop him. I ran after him.
"Wait! Vronderos." I yelled and stood in front of him. But he walked around me. "Vronderos! Stop!" I screamed many people turned to see the commotion. And so did Vronderos, he looked surprised at me. I came up to him, faced him. I put my hand on his shoulder and pressed myself slightly against him. I looked up deep into his eyes pleadingly.
"Please... Just let them be for me." I whispered. He looked down at me I could feel his warm breath on my face. He just stared at me for a few seconds.
"Alright I'll let them go this time." He said calmly. I sighed in relief and I turned around to look at other shops. Then Vronderos grabbed my hand and turned me around to face him. "But never yell at me in public again." He whispered hastily. I showed him no fear but I was most defiantly frightened. I walked around me expecting me to follow I looked towards the flower shop and saw Pete standing just outside of it. He still wore his fake beard. He looked concerned so I smiled and nodded and then followed Vronderos back to the carriage.
