Chapter 8 - Ross and Monica's Long Lost Sibling?
I scratched my head at the answer choices. None of them made sense. We literally just started learning about the parts of the brain and their functions, and we already have a quiz. On a Monday too!
I mentally groaned as I just filled in the bubble for the answer next to 'C' . When in doubt, the answer is 'C' ... right?
Before long, the period was over, and we all turned in our quizzes to the teacher's desk. I glanced over at Zoey who was whispering to another girl that was most likely on the volleyball team with her, as she was also taller with a leaner body. Her hair was in a high ponytail, but that didn't cover up the fact that she had really pretty, naturally wavy brown hair. The color, too, was not just an ordinary brown color like mine; it seemed to have reddish streaks that only appeared when the lighting hit it just right.
I noticed her blue/green eyes as they took a quick glance at me. Although, they weren't nearly as pretty as Zoey's hazel eyes, they still were nice to look at.
After they handed their papers in, they walked out of the classroom and split off.
Zoey had ignored me saying hi to her earlier, and I knew she was still upset about how I lied to the guys. I wanted to apologize, but anytime I'd get a chance to, one of the guys came up and started talking to me or a girl came up to me to congratulate me on the game last Friday.
Not gonna lie, I sort of liked the new attention, but I didn't like the fact that the only person I wanted attention from, was ignoring me. I caught her a couple times looking at me, but every time I'd return the gaze she'd snap her head back to the front of the classroom, almost sickened by my gaze.
So, instead of doing the right thing and following her to apologize for being a complete ass this past weekend, I followed the other girl.
I don't know why I did. Maybe I thought she was cute or I just wanted to irritate Zoey even more. Whatever reason, it shocked me as I approached the taller girl. Her ponytail swished from side to side as she walked down the hallway. I jogged so I was right next to her.
She smiled up at me and rose an eyebrow. "Um hi?"
I gave her an awkward smile before saying, "hey."
"Is there something you want?" She clutched her books closer to her chest and stopped in the middle of the hallway. The other students busily ran past us, oblivious to the awkwardness now sleeping through the hall.
"Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Josh Parker," I warmly replied while reaching my hand out, hoping she'd shake my hand.
She looked at my stretched out hand and bit her lip in confusion before shaking it. "I know who you are. I'm Brianna. Brianna Geller."
Geller? Like in Monica and Ross Geller from the show Friends ?
As if she knew my thought, she immediately said, "Yes. Geller, like Monica and Ross." She gave a little chuckle and shook her head. "Everyone always asks me that."
"Well, I like it." I smiled, and she gave a side smile back. I quickly averted my gaze to her outfit. She wore a black skirt and a red top, making her eyes pop out more. Also, I noticed she had a darker red shade of lipstick on and darker eye shadow. It was a little different than seeing Zoey with hardly any makeup on. After a couple seconds, I came to the conclusion that this girl, even with the darker makeup, was very pretty.
"Yeah, well I have to head to class... maybe I'll talk with you more at lunch?" She piped up giving me a slight smirk.
"Sure. Sounds good," I replied casually as she waved and went down towards her next class.
She seemed cute, and even though she comes off as cold, deep down she seemed genuinely nice.
With that thought in mind, I walked to my second hour class somewhat excited for lunch to roll around.

After suffering through two more classes, lunch had finally arrived. My stomach growled as I neared the cafeteria, smelling the aroma coming from the lunch line. Even though today was Monday and I had not only one quiz, but two, the school seemed to reward me by serving pizza dippers for lunch.
My favorite.
"Aw man, I actually craved these things during the summer..." I heard a familiar female voice say behind me in line. I turned around to see Brianna holding a tray, awaiting to get food.
I nodded in agreement. Truth is, I actually did miss some of the school lunches during the summer. Although my mom is a good cook, there was something about those cheese-filled sticks with marinara that made one feel so fulfilled.
"So, where do you sit?" She asked, shaking me out of my thoughts of the delicious food that was being placed on my tray. I signaled at the lunch lady to put another serving on my plate. She huffed before giving me another helping. I gave her a huge grin back, making her glare at me more.
I swear every lunch lady I encounter hates their job.
"I sit over there." I pointed towards the table that was slowly filling up with some of the football players. I noticed Charlie stop over by Zoey's table where Amira also sat. Charlie blushed while talking to her.
"Oh gosh, how could I be stupid. Of course, you sit with the rest of the jocks." She rolled her eyes and snorted. I couldn't figure out if she was trying to somehow insult me or if that was just how she talked.
"Where do you normally sit?" I asked as I checked out my food. I noticed the $50 my parents placed in my lunch account was almost all spent as a result of me getting an extra serving of lunch each day.
I'm a growing boy...
"Eh, I usually go to the library and eat since I tutor sometimes during lunch, but since it's only the beginning of the second week of school, I don't have anyone to tutor yet. Can I sit with you today?" She shifted her gaze from the table to me. I nodded and led her to the, now, almost full table of boys.
"Bri? What're you doing over here?" Cameron shot her a glare, and she smiled sweetly back.
"Josh invited me to sit here. Is that a problem, Cam?" Instantly, Cameron gave me a dirty look before shoving a pizza dipper in his mouth.
I gave the two a confused look and sat down, Brianna sitting right beside me. She began to swirl one of her dippers in the marinara, trying to ignore the awkward stares from all the guys at the table.
Charlie, being the king of 'breaking the awkwardness', coughed before saying, "so, how'd you do on that calculus quiz?"
I shrugged. " It was easy. Pretty sure I got it all right." I took a bite of a dipper that was soaked in marinara sauce. "The AP Psych quiz was a different story."
Brianna stopped playing with her food for a moment. "You know, that's one of my best classes. If you need help, I could tutor you." She gave me a sweet smile which was very odd to see as I only had seen her smirks and half smiles beforehand.
"That would be nice actually. I know if this quiz was supposedly the 'easiest' of the semester and I didn't understand most of it, I'll probably end up failing the class." I gave her a slight smile back. I could feel Cameron boring holes through my skull with his death glare.
What was his problem today?
"Alright, I'll give you my number, and we can find a time to study." She handed me her phone as I handed her mine, and we swapped numbers. Just then, it hit me. I never got Zoey's number.
"Just text me whenever," she casually said before taking a drink of her low fat milk. I wondered how she could drink that crap. It didn't even taste like milk to me. I'm more of a 'whole-milk' kind of guy.
"Will do."
I looked over at Zoey's table where her usual friends sat with her. Margo seemed to be drawing while Bryan just peered over her shoulder with a look of admiration. He then gave her a kiss on the side of her head causing Margo to blush.
"Ugh!" I heard a familiar groan from the other side of me. Skylar slouched in his chair, crushing his milk carton to the point where you couldn't even tell it was a milk carton to begin with. He, then, arose from his spot and walked over to their table.
At this point, everyone was watching as he angrily walked over to the other table. Margo looked up with wide eyes, and Bryan scooted closer towards her, placing an arm around her shoulders.
Brianna nudged me, making me tear away my gaze at the intense scene. "This doesn't look good."
"Yeah. Skylar looks like he's gonna rip Bryan's head off. Maybe I should go over there before a fight breaks out." I noticed Bryan stand up, glaring at Skylar who also glared back. Both of their fists were balled, and harsh words were being spat between the two.
"Just cause you're some pretty boy jock doesn't mean you get everything." That was a low for Bryan as he didn't know about Skylar's dad and home life. Skylar looked like he was blowing steam out of his ears as that was how furious he looked.
He took a step closer to Bryan and muttered something too quiet for us to hear. Whatever he said, it made Bryan clenched his fists tighter, and I knew if someone didn't stop them, they would start a fight. A very ugly fight which would cause Margo to hate them both. I could even tell how upset she looked as she lowered her head with unshed tears in her eyes. Zoey, on the other hand, seemed to watch the two boys as if it were her favorite show. All she was missing was the popcorn.
I bolted up towards the dueling boys and stepped in between. "Hey, let's chill out, okay? You guys aren't helping anyone by doing this."
Skylar bit his lip in frustration and relaxed his fists. Bryan appeared unfazed, and he, now, was giving me a dirty look.
"Why don't you stay out of it Josh and go join Ryan and his shitheads since you also hurt Zoey." His words stung, and before I could stop myself I punched him, straight in the jaw. He fell back and held his face, looking up at me in pure shock.
Yeah, I'm pretty shocked too, buddy.
"Dude, Mrs. Venga just saw you do that," Skylar quietly said to me, making me look up at the bigger woman that stood across the cafeteria with her hands on her hips, motioning me to come over by her.
Uh oh.
I walked over towards her, leaving Bryan still on the ground with Margo rushing by his side. Skylar just stood there watching me head towards the witch. Zoey looked bewildered, and that's probably because punching someone was very unlike me.
As I became face to face with the mammoth of a woman, she hissed, "Principals office. Now."
I sulked out of the cafeteria towards the main office. I probably would get detention or have to sit out of a game.
Crap.
Once I reached the office, I walked up towards the secretary. She frantically was typing something, not noticing the random, tall kid staring at her. I coughed, and she averted her eyes from her computer screen over towards me.
"Oh hi. What can I help you with?" The secretary politely asked. She was a smaller blonde woman. She also seemed like she was only a few years older than me.
"I was sent here to see the principal." She nodded her head slowly and a small smile formed on her lips.
"I just got a message from Mrs. Venga about a boy who just punched someone at lunch... is that you?" She didn't seem upset at all. She actually looked like she was quite amused with the situation.
"Yep. That would be me." She smiled and gave me a sheet. It had a schedule of the detention times I could choose from.
"Mr. Andrews is busy right now, but usually with this sort of thing he would give a student two weeks detention. This is the schedule of all the different times you can serve. Most kids serve it before school at 7:30 until five minutes before first period starts, especially if you're in sports. Otherwise, after school for a half an hour or lunchtime are the other options." Her eyes seemed to be checking me out, but she probably was just wondering how an average kid like me would punch someone randomly. But, after she gave me a once over, she winked at me. SHE WINKED AT ME! The hell?!
"Uh thanks... Ms. Tierny," I replied while looking at her name plate.
"Oh, you can call me Savannah," she smiled with a seductive grin. I don't care if she's good looking and younger, she still works at the school, and I'm not into older women.
"Um, okay. Thanks Savannah." I began to make my way out of the office, but not before she said, "come in anytime, Josh." Her voice sounded as though she was trying to seduce me, and I'm pretty sure that's what she was trying to do.
I just gave an awkward smile back and rushed out the door. That was probably the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me... besides kissing Skylar.
Damn secretary.
