Leaf Gliding

Nod flew Bryanna and Lif to Bryanna's home. He occasionally looked back at Bryanna, to which Lif would look back at a view of the forest, wondering what Nod was looking at. Bryanna laughed at Lif's confusion.

"What?" The two of them looked at Bryanna.

"Nothing. I just remembered something funny." She grinned.

"Can I know please? I wanna laugh too." Lif smiled.

"Hey, kid," Nod looked forward, moving out of a tree's way. "Who are you anway?"

"My name's Lif." He held his petals up a bit higher.

"Hello Lif," Nod's bird landed on a branch near Bryanna's house. "My name's Nod." He got off his bird and helped Bryanna down. "You all right?"

Bryanna nodded smiling. "Yeah."

Lif's eyes widened as he spotted the waterfall. "Oh, sprout! Clear water!" He grinned. "I'm going to get some of that." Lif began jumping down.

"But, Lif you..." Bryanna sighed. "I'll go find him when the sun goes down." She faintly smiled.

Nod raised a brow. "Why would you do that?"

"Lif lost his mom to some boggans," Bryanna looked at Nod, "So he doesn't have a home to go to."

Nod smirked, petting his bird. "Are you kidding me?"

"What?" Bryanna blinked.

"He's an orchid. His toes are roots, so it's best for him to sleep where the dirt is." Nod pointed down to the ground.

"Oh." Bryanna looked away, blushing and jumping down to her house.

Nod quickly followed her. "You're not going to go join Lif?" Nod jerked his head in the direction of the waterfall.

"No. I mean, the water is beautiful and all, but he seems way more excited about it than I could ever be."

Nod wrapped his arms around Bryanna's waist and kissed her neck. Bryanna closed her eyes, but then  gently pushed Nod back, opening them.

Nod raised a brow. "Was I too rough?"

"I'm sorry." Bryanna stared at Nod for a bit. "It's just... are we together?"

"Of course," Nod said quickly. "I'm not the kind of guy that just goes around kissing girls." He moved Bryanna's hair out of her face. "You matter to me." Nod took Bryanna's hand. "I know it's hard to believe because we've known each other for less than a week," he lightly lifted Bryanna's chin, "but I like you."

Bryanna grinned. "I like you too."

"Bryanna," Nod held the both of her hands, locking his eyes with hers. "Would you like to go leaf- gliding with me?"

"Yes," Bryanna nodded lightly. "Yes I would."

They walked out and began jumping branch to branch.

 "Woah!"

Bryanna and Nod looked out at Lif. He was much greener than when Bryanna first met him earlier that day. Lif's white petals seemed to glow as he stood in the water, watching some birds swoop down and take a drink. He loved the lively vibe here, much different from where he used to live.

There, the water would be filled with waste stompers would leave. His mother's petals turned green because of something that was in the water. She wasn't bothered by it at all, but Lif didn't like how the other orchids would laugh at her, telling her she was an ordinary plant.

Lif smiled at the water he was standing in. "I always thought you were beautiful, mom." He looked up. "And now, I have the water you've always wanted for me. My petals are kind of glowing too." He watched a bird fly away to the horizon.

He slowly nodded to himself and walked toward the rocky palace. He saw Bryanna holding on to two ends of a leaf that allowed her to float in the air. She quickly glided to trees on the other side as Nod rapidly glided in a sprial to pass her.

Bryanna landed on a branch and looked around for Nod. She laughed when she didn't see him anywhere. Her grin slowly fadded when she couldn't find a trace of him. She couldn't hear any sort of movement around her.

"Nod?" Her eyes shifted around. "Nod!"

"Hey."

Bryanna laughed as Nod tickled her rib. She jumped back with a little scream.

Nod laughed to himself. "That was cute." He lightly kissed her cheek.

Bryanna smiled, looking away. "It was not."

"It totally--"

There was a loud hiss and Bryanna and Nod looked at the large, angry barn owl beside them.

"We must've woke him up." Nod's wide eyes scanned the owl's face.

The owl snapped its beak at them. Nod grabbed Bryanna and jumped down with her. Bryanna closed her eyes tightly, but opened them before she landed, landing perfectly to jump to the next branch and the next.

The owl's beak hit her back and she fell down faster than she could anticipate, falling on her knees on the next branch. Nod consequently fell beside her, shielded her as the owl raised its talon.

"Leave them alone!"

The owl's head turned to a white orchid that was rapidly leaf gliding at it, hitting its eye. Lif smiled, landed next to Bryanna and Nod.

Lif gave them each a leaf. "Come on! Hurry!"

Nod held his hand out to Bryanna. "If you hold onto me, we can get to the ground faster."

Bryanna nodded, leaving her leaf behind and pressing herself against Nod. He jumped when her grip was tight enough. They glidded down to the ground beside Lif and began running.

"If we can make it to the palace we'll be safe." Lif looked back at Nod and Bryanna.

The owl swooped down and almost scratched one of Lif's petals.

"You're a flower, why is he after you?" Nod called to Lif.

"How should I know?" He placed a leafy hand on his chin. "I did hit his eye though. I'M SORRY!"

Bryanna tripped on a rock and Lif ran back. Bryanna looked up at him with wide eyes, and he lifted her up. The owl hissed and Lif throw Bryanna toward Nod.

"Go!" Lif looked back and the owl landed on him, knocking him unconcious.

"Lif!" Bryanna stared with wide eyes.

Nod's eyes shifted back and forth between Lif and the palace rapidly. He instantly took Bryanna's hand and ran to the palace with her. "We'll get him back."

Bryanna tried to look back at Lif, but the tall grass covered her view. She could only see the top of the owl's head, and eventually she couldn't see that. They reached the palace to gather some leaf men to find Lif.

About two hours passed and there was still no sign of Lif. Bryanna twisted her hair, thinking of a way to find him, hoping he was still around. It was just today that she found the little orchid and now he was gone.

Nod sat beside Bryanna, smiling and thinking of a way to make Bryanna laugh. However, he hardly knew the little orchid. Bryanna lied her head on his shoulder, and Nod cupped Bryanna's head, looking at the moon beyond the rocky balcony.

Nod stroked her hair. "It'll be all right."

Nod and Bryanna felt a leafy hand touch theirs. "Yeah. Everything's going to be okay."

They both looked up at a smiling Lif.

"Lif!" Bryanna stood up and grinned.

Nod smiled. "What happened?"

Ronin stepped in, patting Lif's petals. "This little guy couldn't find his way back. He was lost near a lake pretty far from here."

Lif grinned. "I met some tad poles there."

"Cool." Nod fist bumped Lif.

Bryanna smiled. "I'm glad you're okay."

Lif smiled and hugged Bryanna, then looked up at her. "Can stay at the bottom of the tree? I really like it here."

Bryanna lightly laughed. "Of course you can. You can do anything you want."

"Yay!" Lif began jumping as he cheered.

Nod smiled. "Just in time for the Tara Festival."

Bryanna blinked. "Tara Festival?"

"Oh! I've heard of that. It sounds really fun." Lif grinned.

"What is it?"

Ronin spoke arrogantly. "It's a festival that honors the passing of our former queen, Queen Tara."

Lif stepped toward Ronin. "I heard she was really pretty."

Ronin smiled and looked at the moon. "She was beautiful."
