| Chapter Three | Verane

He heard someone calling him, the name familiar, but the voice not at all. He felt soft grass under him, it reminded him of the meadow by the base which made him smile. He tried to grab a hold of the grass, but his fingers, no...his hands were numb. His eyes crack open, they widen seeing his bloodied hands. And he couldn't feel the pain, they were numb. He tried to move, but he was favoring his right side more than his left, confusing him. His back felt as if it got cut open like a frog in a science class. But they added weights to keep him in place and made sure to drain his blood or something. A net coiled around him all a sudden, taking him by surprise and shock. He yelped, the ropes tightening around his limbs.

"Ahhh, this one will sell nice. Magical creatures, especially dragons, sell big." Ty heard someone say. 'Did they say dragons? But I'm not a dragon!' Ty thought. Ty opened his mouth to argue, but his voice died in his throat when a potion got thrown at him. When it hit him, Ty cried out in pain. He felt an overwhelming wave of drowsiness hit him too fast, knocking him unconscious.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Ty awoke, the loud chatting around him hurt his already achy head. His eyes open, he couldn't move, at least not without hurting himself. Ropes and chains coiled around him, keeping him lying still in a cage. Although he could hear them, he couldn't make sense of their words at all. But his vision was clear enough to see a little girl walk up to him. He felt her small hand touch his head.
"Mommy, the dragon man is sick." He heard her say. Ty felt an odd comfort in the girl's touch, he was so cold, and her hand was warm. It was small, but he loved it. He could feel the cold metal under him, his shirt was gone making the cold metal send shivers through him. Even though he was sweating, he was freezing.
"Don't touch that freak!" A woman said taking the child away. Ty flinched, her words hurting him more.
"You hurt his feelings." The child said as they left him. Ty opens his eyes again. 'Dragon....dragon...' Ty thought. He looks behind him, his eyes go wide once he saw it. Wrapped in ropes where a set of wings. Being a shade of black, they were in rough shape from the ropes holding them in particular positions. 'I'm dreaming...I'm having a nightmare...That's it. This isn't real. Any minute I'll wake up and not have wings on me.' Ty thought to himself. Ty felt something pull on him.
"Hey, kid! Don't pull on his tail unless you want to awaken him and get yours." A voice yelled. The pulling stop, Ty was in shock. 'What the actual f*ck is going on?!' Ty thought to himself. Ty looked at his hands, his hands were in bandages, but he sees black scales on his arms. 'I...I am a dragon. Seto was right I...I'm one of those people with dragon blood. But how?!' Ty thought. Ty picked his head up, pushing his arms under him best he could. The ropes went tighter around him, constraining him. He coughed a few times, he rested his head on his arms, his energy drained. He coughed a few more times, his stomach growling as he shivers. 'How can these people not know who I am? I mean...I don't look that different, do I?' Ty thought.
"I don't know, Damien." Ty heard someone say as two people went in front of his cage.
"Come on, Ben. I caught this dragon two days ago, he looks as if he will be a hard worker." Damien said.
"It's not that. You know how these hybrids can be, they are resistant. While your dragon looks as if he is dead. And the dead ones can't get what I need to be done." Ben said. Ty felt something jabbed him in his right side making him yelp and the ropes tighten around him. They tighten around his wings, making his pain much worse. Ty picked his head up, panting.
"He's not dead," Damien said. Ty opens his eyes as Ben grabs Ty's chin, turning his head towards him. Ben's eyes widen. Ty growls, his discolored eyes fading to a dark shade of purple. Ty's teeth start to hurt him, he feels something growing, but doesn't know what. Sharp fangs grow, he bites at Ben's hand, Ben pulls his hand away. Damien chuckles. "I put up that sign for a reason, Ben. He bites and kills. He could be good in a killer."
"You are in the right place for selling. But it's a bold move, selling a Sky Army General who has been missing for a week. So if you want to keep your profit in its cage, sell him here, in Verane. Not outside of it." Ben said. Ty's eyes look at Ben. 'So they do know me.' Ty thought. "And put a muzzle on that monster of yours before he kills someone or his senses come back." Damien nods. Ty's eyes faded back to their discolored normality. Ty closes his eyes, his head is killing him. He knows the little girl is right, he is sick, but he also knows that no one will care. At least not until he is out of Verane. 'I have to get out of here and somehow make it to Alamut. Cassandra is there, that is, if she is still taking her test.' Ty thought.
"Is it dead?" Ty heard someone asks.
"No, it's only sleeping," Damien said. 'It?' Ty thought. He feels his ropes get pulled on, making Ty struggle. "I have him tied up well. He won't get out as long as you don't let him."
"It looks too injured to even move."
Ty picked his head up, his eyes meet with none other than the King of Verane. King Fredrick Larsson. This King is not only old in style but in age as well. He disagrees for the need of the Sky Army, making it not wanting anything to do with the army. Although the Verane military matches the Sky Army in strength and numbers. The King grabs Ty's chin, lifting up his head. The King smiles.
"I'll take it off your hands, Damien." The King said. Damien smiles.
"Good choice, your highness," Damien said. Ty sees Damien get handed a bag full of golden coins as horses pull his cage towards the castle. Ty rests his head back down on his arms, he hated it. He hates Verane, he's moving further away from the Sky Army Base. 'At least I'm on the same side of the Land Bridge the Sky Army is on.' Ty thought to himself. Ty stayed quiet, his sickness overwhelming him to the point that he passes out. The Verane palace made from stone and stands tall and proud. Although the King may be old-fashioned, he is up to date with weaponry and styles. The horses stop in the courtyard, the King looks at Ty.
"Get a healer for the creature. And send a summons letter to Commander Adam, restricting to only him." The King said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"WHAT?!" They yelled as Sky finished reading. Sky gripped the letter in his hand.

"That bastard," Sky mumbled under his breath. He looks at the messenger. "I'm coming, alone." The messenger leaves, Ian grabs Sky's arm.

"Wow wait, this is a trap. Adam, I want Ty back as much as everyone else, but we all know how King Fredrick is. He will take any chance he can get to get rid of you, Adam." Ian said. Quentin walks up beside Ian, agreeing. General Quentin Juneau. One of the Major Generals, he's always specialized in healing, but never wanted to pursue in a field of it. So instead, he helps his friends by helping Ian train recruits. Up until recently, he got called out to the outpost by the recruits stationed there. He returned when he heard about Ty. Quentin is a tall man with dark curly hair and blue eyes. He has grey jeans with black boots and a dark red shirt with a black jacket.

"You should let us come with you. Or at least take Seto, he could turn invisible or something." Quentin said. Sky's eyes connect with Statilia's. She looks away.

"Statilia....do you want to come with me?" Sky asks. She looks at him as the others look at her. Mitch looks back at Adam.

"Wait, her?! But she is a new recruit, she can't protect you by herself." Mitch said.

"Statilia, you can say no to him," Jason said. Statilia glances at Jason and then at Sky. She nods.

"Y-Yes. Thank you, Commander." She said. Sky folds up the letter.

"But Sky--" Sky looks at Jerome.

"Jerome, I know she is new. But I have faith in her, and since when did I need protection when I can defend myself?" Adam asks. Jerome uncrosses his arms, staring at Adam.

"Since you are going to a Kingdom that is full of dark mages and going in alone without magic aid at all," Jerome said. Sky sighs, putting the letter in his back pocket.

"Okay, I'll make a deal with you all. If we aren't back in five days, you have my permission to go to Verane. But no later and no soon either." Adam said.

"Sounds fair," Seto said as the others were about to argue. Seto looks at them. "Guys, Adam's taken out a dark mage by himself before." Mitch nods.

"Yeah, we all have. But this isn't one or two dark wizards. This is a Kingdom full of them. I will say for everyone that we would feel much better about this if you went with them, Seto." Mitch said to Seto. Adam shakes his head.

"No. Light Mages aren't allowed in Verane," Adam said. Seto nods.

"Yeah, and I rather not go to Verane in the first place," Seto said sitting down in his chair. Seto looks at Adam. "Talk to Cassandra. She can hook you up with some items that will protect you." Adam looks at Seto. He bites his bottom lip back. 'I know they want to protect me, but I can protect myself. And...I got Statilia coming with me. She isn't that bad in combat, could use some more training, but I can tell she cares about Ty. And that itself is a motivation that can be good use when under combat.' Adam thought.

"Seto--" Statilia grabs Adam's arm, looking at the Generals.

"I took the Sky Army oath, didn't I? I won't let anything happen to him, I promise." Statilia said. Adam looks at her. She smiles a little. "I may not look as tough as you all do, but I want Ty back too." Adam looks at the others.

"So.....do I have permission to leave without any of you?" Adam asks. Mitch looks at Adam.

"Let's be honest, you would have left even if we said no," Mitch said. Adam nods, Statilia smiles.

"True, true. We'll be back in five days, guys, and we're bringing Ty back home with us." Adam said. Jerome sighs in defeat.

"Go before we change our minds," Jerome said. Adam looks at Ian.

"Ian, I'm leaving you in charge. Seto, can you clean up Ty's room?" Adam asks. Seto nods.

"Easy," Seto said. Adam smiles.

"Thanks. Okay, let's go to Verane." Adam said to Statilia.

Statilia woke up, exhausted and wanting to go back. But she couldn't, it was always in the back of her mind. The fact that she finally found him, she was still in shock, and yet wasn't. When she first talked to him alone, it was like she was talking to her long-lost friend. Yet she knew that he wouldn't recognize her, not a chance. But she was hoping that he would have. She had hope, but she knew it wasn't worth her time. 'If he did remember me, remember any of us, he would have used his real name, but he wouldn't be a General.' She thought to herself. She shook her head, her eyes fixated in front of her. The Commander and she have already gained a lot of ground towards Verane. She hates to admit that she hasn't ever been to any of the kingdoms. So she doesn't know what to expect. She grips the reins in her hands, in her mind she was going through what she could say to Ty. She needed something that might trigger his memories. But everything she thought, she couldn't bring herself to say to him. 'How exactly do I tell him the truth? How? He wouldn't believe me, he wouldn't believe if I told him what he was, or rather who he was. He means so much to so many people he once knew, they are depending on me to bring Ty home.' She thought. She looks at the Commander. 'And from what I heard about Commander Adam, this won't be an easy job. Especially that wizard, Seto, who I know already suspects me. And suspects Ty. I have to get Tobias out of here before that wizard figures anything out. No one can know, until he is strong enough, not until Ty's on my side, not on their side. I understand where Commander Adam is coming from, but I can't lose him again. Tobias, I mean Ty, whatever his name is now. If I'm not careful, bad things could happen. I could lose Tobias and I can't let that happen.' She thought to herself. Adam grabbed her horse's reins all a sudden, stopping her horse. She looks at Adam.

"Statilia, are you finally with me?" Adam asks. She looks in front of her. She almost led her horse off a cliff. She pulls back on the reins, making her horse walk backward. Adam does as well. "Geez, don't scare me like that." She looks away from Adam. Adam gets back on his horse and looks at Statilia. "Actually, lets set up camp for the night." Statilia nodded, agreeing.

They had already left the City of Alamut and were riding along the Ethernal Heights. So when they finally found a small cave that is in the mountains, they made a fire and got something to cook, some meat. Statilia looked at Sky.

"So..can I ask you something?" She asks. Adam looks at her and nods. She points at his amulet. "What's that for?" Adam has a small purple amethyst gem that has a golden trim on a back chord around his neck.

"Oh. It was a gift from someone, a long time ago. It became a symbol of itself with the recruits. They see it as a Sky Army symbol." Adam said.  Her eyes glance at the gem, and back at Adam.

"And is that not what it is to you?" She asks. Adam looks away from her.

"No."

"Who gave it to you?" She asks. Adam doesn't answer, making her look at the fire. "Sorry, you don't have to answer. I was curious." Adam looks over at her.

"It's fine. My past isn't something I like remembering. But how about you?" Adam asks. She looks at him.

"What about me?" She asks clueless. Adam smiles a little.

"You know about Ty's amnesia. I can tell you do. You know more about him than the others do." Adam said. She looks at her feet, not answering. Adam loses his smile and looks away. "I get if you don't want to say anything. But can you answer one question?" She looks at Adam.

"What?" She asks.

"Can you cure his amnesia?" Adam asks. Statilia hesitates, Adam looks at her. "I know that's a lot to ask. But he's been clueless about who he is for years. I've tried everything to get his memory back, but he gave up on himself two years ago. Now he doesn't care anymore. Until you came along, once he says that you are familiar with him." She smiles a little.

"He did?" She asks. He smiles and nods.

"Yeah, it didn't trigger a memory, but he knows you are familiar. But be careful, Ty is...he's sensitive and--"

"Commander,  Ty was one of best friends back then, I thought he had died until I heard about the Sky Army. I didn't come here to become a recruit, sorry. I only came here to talk to Ty." She said. Adam smiles.

"I'll survive, Statilia. It's one less person to worry about." Adam said. She smiles, looking at the fire.

"You're more understanding than I thought you would be. I thought you would be a pain in my ass, but you aren't." She said. Adam chuckles.

"I'm aware of the rumors that go around about me, you must have heard those before you actually met me. Don't worry, most people do. But when you say that you came for Ty...you don't mean what I am thinking that you mean, do you?" Adam asks. She loses her smiles, she looks at Adam.

"It's complicated, Sky. It might be for the better if I took Ty with me." Statilia said. Adam looks away from her once she said it. 'I was afraid of that. I don't want Ty to go. But I want Ty's memory to return too.' Adam thought. Adam looks back at her, he saw that she was about to say something else, so he stopped her before she could.

"Let Ty make that decision," Adam said. She closed her mouth, thinking and then nodded.

"Sounds fair." She said.
