| Chapter Eight | Flying Lessons

Adam woke up, feeling dizzy still but felt better. He turned his head. 'Argghh...I hate it when the nurses give me the stuff to make me sleep..' He thought. He felt stiff and something wet falls off his forehead, he hears it hit the floor. His eyes crack open.

"Commander." Someone said. He felt it get pressed against his forehead again. "You're awake." Adam's eyes open more. He could still feel his wrists bounded and the strap across his chest. "Good. How do you feel?"

"Better," Adam mumbled. She smiles.

"Good. Good. I'll be right back, stay here. I'm gonna get the doctor." She said before she stands and leaves. Adam closes his eyes, he tries to fall back asleep, but after a few minutes, he felt a cold hand pressing on his stomach. He groans and turns his head again. His eyes open seeing the doctor undoing his bandages. He moved his wrists, the leather that is restricting him stops his wrists.

"Commander, calm down. I know it hurts, but we got to change the bandage." The doctor said. Adam closes his eyes, after a few more minutes, he felt them finishing up as he heard Jerome and Mitch. Adam opens his eyes seeing them walking over.

"Man, you really screwed up this time," Jerome said. Mitch whacks his shoulder, Jerome grabs his arm. "Ow!" Mitch looks at Sky.

"You feeling okay? You don't look too good." Mitch said.

"...I'm just..really tired.." Sky mumbled. Mitch smiles a little.

"Good. Good. The less energy you have the better." Mitch said. They finish up the bandage, the doctor looks at Sky seeing he was about to fall asleep. The doctor turns to Mitch and Jerome, he pulls them aside.

"How is he?" Jerome asks.

"His stitches are okay, not inflected at all which is a good sign. But I'm worried about his blood loss." The doctor said. Mitch nods, he glances at Sky, noticing that Sky fell asleep.

"Yeah, he seems so lacking in energy. It is really weird since he is always moving." Mitch said.

"That's normal. He's been sleeping for a long time, but he is gonna need to start getting up and moving around soon. His blood loss was large, but he's been in recovery for over a week now meaning he hasn't replenished all his blood but enough that I think he should start moving around." The doctor said. Mitch crosses his arms. Jerome smiles.

"Yeah, I'm sure we'll come up with something for him," Jerome said. The doctor tells them a few more things before he leaves to care for another patient. Jerome and Mitch go back beside Adam, Adam's eyes crack open, he looks at the two. "I told you we should have come with you regardless." Adam smiled a little.

"How are you feeling? Any better?" Mitch asks. Adam nods a little.

"Yeah...they..they laced everything with..sleeping potions.." Adam mumbled as he was about to nod off again. Jerome smiled a little.

"Don't worry Adam, we asked Seto and the nurses to do that or else your wounds would never heal," Jerome said. Adam sighs, he closes his eyes, falling asleep.

"I didn't think Seto's sleeping potions were this strong," Mitch said. Jerome shakes his head.

"Me neither, but at least he is resting. He wouldn't be if we didn't do this." Jerome said as Mitch stood up from Adam's bed. Mitch nods agreeing.

"How's Ty?" Mitch asks as Quentin comes. Quentin looks at Mitch.

"Oh, he's okay. His wounds are just about healed and his fever broke." Quentin said. Quentin looks at Adam and then back at Jerome and Mitch. "Jason is looking for you two by the way."

"Where is he?" Jerome asks.

"He went to his room, he looked freaked out," Quentin said. Jerome and Mitch both leave.

It was almost midnight, Ty had left his room, he wanted to see Sky. His wings and tail dragged against the floor as he walked, he has been practicing his balance, Statilia and a nurse have been helping him since he is gonna have to live with wings and a tail for the rest of his life. He's gotten pretty good but sometimes he stumbles. He has his headset back on, Statilia went back to his room and got it for him, it just makes him feel more like himself with them on. Although he can't fix the crack in them. but luckily it isn't a big crack. He walked into urgent care and looked at the nameplates, he stopped when he saw Sky's name. He went inside, he closes the door quietly seeing Adam is asleep. Ty smiles a little looking at him. 'At least it wasn't that bad. I'm not sure actually, I haven't been told his injuries.' Ty thought. To sit in a comfy chair, he pulled his legs against his chest, staring at Adam and the clock. Ty rested his head on the armrest of his chair, his wings subconsciously wrapping around him in a warm embrace that made him smile. His tail wrapping around his feet, he fell sound asleep.

It was only a few hours later when someone shook him awake. His eyes open, meeting them with Jason.

"Hey, morning sleepyhead. What are you doing down here?" Jason asks. Ty looks at Adam, Jason follows his eyes and nods understanding. "Ahhh...okay. Don't worry, the doctor said that Sky will be back on his feet in a day or two. They have been lacing his pain medicine with Seto's sleeping potions. Smart actually." Ty smiles.

"Of course they did that, and yeah. It is smart." Ty said. Jason looks at Ty.

"You look comfy. Aren't you doing a flying lesson today with Seto?" Jason asks. Ty nods, he gets off the chair, stretching his arms and wings out as he stood. Ty looked at Sky.

"Can you tell me if he wakes up, I want to talk to him," Ty said. Jason nods.

"Yeah, I'll come get you," Jason said.

"Thanks, Jason," Ty said as he left. Ty went outside, he went down underground into the magic arena. There are two places like this in the base for Cassandra and Seto. Seto's magic can tend to get out of hand so they built them a big place underground and Seto has one that is outside called The Hollow Plains. Ty looks through the glass windows seeing Seto and Cassandra in the big arena, talking. Brice is there as well. Ty goes down more steps and goes into the arena. Seto notices him.

"There you are. Ready for a flying test?" Seto asks. Ty shook his head.

"No, but let's do it," Ty said. Cassandra and Brice go a few feet behind Seto. "Seto, have you ever done this before?"

"I've used flying spells before, but this is different I know. Shouldn't be that hard. It is all about balance." Seto said.

"Seto, there are more factors than just balance," Cassandra said. Seto looked behind him and at Cassandra as Ty does.

"What?" Ty asks.

"I'm aware, Cassie. But considering that steering needs balance it seems pretty important over the rest." Seto said. Seto looks at Ty. Seto sighs. "You see Cassie, you are making him think this is hard. When it isn't." Ty looks at Seto.

"It isn't?"

"No. Soon you'll be like me, I sometimes fly without thinking about it. Your case is different, but you won't have to think about steering or balance soon because it will become an instinct." Seto said. Cassandra gets up.

"Yeah and no matter how funny it will be watching you crash a dozen times, I have to go," Cassandra said before she left. Ty caught Brice staring at Seto, Brice looks away, his face heating up. Brice stands up too.

"Yeah, I gotta go too. See ya, Seto, bye Ty." Brice said as he left as well. Seto crossed his arms.

"Alright, go ahead and try," Seto said. Ty looks at Seto.

"Wait aren't you suppose to teach me something or how--"

"How can I do that when I don't know what I'm dealing with. So come on, fly. I promise I won't laugh...much." Seto said. Ty smiles a little.

"You're gonna enjoy watching me fail, aren't you?" Ty asks. Seto nods.

"Yes. Very much. This is gonna be just as entertaining as it is teaching an apprentice the basics of spellcasting." Seto said. Ty smiles at him, Seto smiles too. "Don't worry, I was really bad at flying too at first. But all it takes is a little practice. So come on, let's get started."
