7: Eggshell
"Noo... You're not getting away from me... Not this time at least!" My voice howled over the tree canopies. My recently wrapped hands picked up the hard egg's shell and carried it a few blocks away from my house. Call me insane for trying the same thing twice, but I just couldn't help myself. With the strength I had used to slay so many before this, I crashed the egg on the ground. This time, I was almost certain I had heard something crack.
A shrill scream, unnatural and unlike anything I had ever heard before, nearly burst my eardrums! The sound came from nowhere it seemed! As if it generated from within my very ears! I clasped my head, but it made no difference.
"AAAAA!" My feeble attempt to out-shout the noise. A bizarre clicking slowly rose to replace the screech, which too faded after a short time.
...Alright... Guess it didn't like that.
I stood in shock after the noise subsided, still trying to figure out what the heck that was. Sounded nothing like the dragon I remembered fighting prior! Was that... Was that...not a dragon in there?!
Didn't matter. It was still responsible for my condition, whatever it was. My fists clasped tightly 'till they were practically glowing with might! Determination coursing through my veins, I picked up the ax I had dropped and used it to fiddle with the black orb. With the stick-like object, I rolled the egg over, revealing the small crater I had made for it and more. A thin, bright pink line stretched from one side of the egg to the other, however, by magic that line was drawing to a close. I had to be fast if I wanted to exploit this weakness. Swinging the head of the ax over my shoulder, I aimed for a daring strike.
My eyes narrowed. My fingers gripped the wooden handle tightly. My wearing feet braced themselves. The ax swooped in like a pouncing spider.
Sshhhhhhoooaaaa-
Vwsshhh!
No...
My missing swing hit only purple specks. As if that wasn't bad enough..
C-p!
The power of my swing turned on me instead, dislocating my right shoulder terribly before I could even stop myself!
"Aaogh!" I stumbled, each quick catch of my feet landing on figurative spikes of heated metal. "Aghh!" I refused to fall and hurt myself more than I already had. Since my body decided apparently that the pain I was enduring already wasn't enough, I felt hot liquid trickling down my fingers from under the wrappings over my hands...
Squinting, my eyes blurring with pain. With pure, unrelenting hatred I stared at the mound of black as it fully healed itself before my eyes. It taunted me, just laying there so helplessly! Why was I its target?!... Couldn't it just leave me alone?! My bandages soaked with blood until it became a struggle just to hold my ax. Not like that mattered... My dislocated shoulder throbbed, unable to hold anything. At least...at least it was my weaker one.
"Yh-.... You done yet?! You done tormenting me?!" I hollered under the moonlight.
'You did this to yourself.' I could imagine it taunting me with an oh so cocky grin!
"Wh- did I!?... Wh-di-mmh!!" My futile attempt to argue back backfired, making me sound and look like I truly had gone insane. Shaking my head fiercely, I glared past the strands of hair sopping up the sweat in front of my eyes. "AAAAA!" One final attack, I decided. I wasn't giving up. I never did. Not on my home, even though I was forced out in the end. Not on my friends..even when they died anyways. Not on my life...even though literally everything that existed seemed determined to end it....
I didn't give up...
...Because I didn't know how...
"Aa-!" My ax fell upon it in futile. The egg teleported away again. Again, it materialized closer to the door of my house. I pounced on top of it. With my weak, tingling right arm, I wrapped around the course stone-like surface. With my other one, I balled my fist and-
Pap! Pap! Pap! WHAP!
Pelted the thing again and again to no foreseeable end. The object buzzed and spat purple flakes, but I held on too tightly for it to compute where to escape to next. "I! Killed! Your! Mother! Now! You! Die! Too!" I added a word to every crushing blow. The thing began to scream the moment I felt the eggshell grow tender. Like I was crushing the top of it into millions of little pieces. Light pink beamed from the thousands of miniscule cracks as a new sound belched forth from within. I hadn't the time to close my ears. I was nearly there! "Ow-w-w-w..." I felt a pain -- like in my feet -- growing under the bandages in my hands. It was more than just the busted blisters now, though. On the blur that was my weaponized fist, I saw faint purple spreading at a rapid pace. "N-O!" I fought against the new stinging, burning pain. But, against my own will...the pain proved to be too strong.
Which is harder to kill...? A fully grown dragon? ...Or its unhatched egg..? I would have never thought it would be the second one...until now.
My numb fist barely even hit the hard surface of the shell anymore. Moreso, it just booped in a semi antagonistic manner. I gave up... In defeat, I laid on my stomach. My eyes tightened in pain... My now purple stained limbs shivered in bone numbing pain... My soul growled in remorse... For, I had lost. A pattern that just kept repeating itself.
I... was a failure...
I had no home to prove it...
I had no friends to prove it...
All I had was this sorry excuse of a life...
As darkness closed in all around me...I let it.

It is because of the ending that I refuse to update until chapter eight is done too! XD
But until then... Nighty-night!
