Lee closes his eyes tightly in heartache for his friends, reluctantly moving away from the fencing and climbing back up the ladder.

Christa looks down at the walkers with wide eyes, her hand held up to her mouth in horror as they tear away at the corpse. She runs back over to Lee as he climbs up.

"What-- What happened?!"

Lee remains silent for a few moments, Omid walking over from the other side of the roof.

"I... I couldn't do anything... Ben was really messed up. Kenny couldn't leave him," he lowly speaks, shaking his head. "It was just fucked."

(?) They will remember that

Lee grits his teeth, clenching his fist tightly. "God damn! God!"

Christa looks back down to the walkers. "I heard a few shots..."

Lee holds his hand over his eyes, trying to steady his emotions and breathing. "Kenny made sure that... Ben didn't feel any more pain than he had to."

Omid's face falls as he pales. "Wh--What?"

"It was Ben's... Biggest fear, you know? Kenny had three bullets, used one on a walker, and the other on the kid," Lee explains weakly, staring to the horizon. "God... Poor fucking kid..."

Christa looks at Lee's backside with sympathy, walking over and gently setting her hand on his shoulder. "You... Saw them die?"

Lee slowly shakes his head. "Nobody was getting out of there."

"I'm sorry, Lee..."

"He... He wasn't a bad guy. A lot of folks might not have always agreed. Maybe even me sometimes. But he was my friend. Better than any I had before any of this shit happened."

(?) They will remember that

Christa nods with sympathy, peering over at Omid's crestfallen expression.

"We... should go," she softly says after a moment.

Lee exhales shakily, nodding. "Right behind you."

...

..

They made their way carefully across a few more rooftops, a tense silence in the air as their shoes clattered softly on the buildings.

"... Do you want to talk?"

Lee sighs quietly, "Kenny was my best friend. He could be tough to like... But I agreed with him most of the time. So, we were assholes together, I guess."

"Look, Lee," Christa stops walking with Omid, Lee pausing as well and turning to her. "This is a shitty time, but I want to clear something up."

"What is it?"

"Now that... Kenny's gone, Omid and I have to stay safe. For them," she starts.

Lee nods in agreement. "You guys do. You two will be great for them. Please... Keep them safe."

"We'll do our best, you know that," she reassures with a look of resolve.

Lee's eyes shift down to her stomach, "are... you okay?"

Her brows raise in surprise, her mouth forming a small frown. "I should be asking you that."

"Before. In the attic..."

"It's nothing."

Omid's brows furrow in confusion as he looks between the two. "What's nothing?"

She rubs the back of her neck, shaking her head as she starts walking. "Let's just keep moving."

Lee watches her with concern before following, Omid's mouth parted as he scratches his head in confusion before following.

They come across a makeshift bridge, flimsy wooden planks acting as the support. Christa walks onto it first, deeming it safe and briskly walking across with Omid rushing to follow.

Lee looks down to the walker filled streets, gulping and slowly following after the couple across.

"River Street's just up ahead," Omid encourages Lee, smiling nervously at his sickly complexion.

He doesn't reply, walking ahead swiftly and leaving the two to follow. Lee stops, nearly falling into a hole that leads down into a dark building.

"Careful," he warns.

Omid peeks around Lee, blinking rapidly at the dozens of walkers visible inside.

"Even the buildings are full!" Christa exclaims quietly with disbelief.

Omid scoffs bitterly towards the walkers, "they never know where their next meal is."

"Hell of a thing to say." Lee chuckles, rubbing his bitten arm.

Omid's glare falters as he looks up at Lee with wide eyes, wincing. "I-- I didn't mean..."

"It's fine," Lee coughs softly, aiming away from the two before wheezing a few times. "Let's go."

...

..

They continue on down the rooftops, the sun now starting to set and the sky a dark purple, pink clouds highlighting it.

Lee faces the Marsh House, a walker-filled street between him and his kids.

"The Marsh House hotel is around the corner up the block."

He eyeballs the sign that could lead them across the gap, worrying at his bottom lip in thought.

"We have to cross here."

Omid nervously laughs, "well, at least it doesn't look like a death trap."

Christa looks over the sign, watching with wide eyes as it sways ever so slightly with the wind. She glares back at Omid, making him sheepishly smile.

"Ah, who's going first?"

"... You're the lightest," Christa points out.

"He's got a busted leg, and you're walking for two," Lee firmly speaks up, shaking his head. "I'm obviously not doing so hot. Decision doesn't make itself. I'll go first. In case anything happens out there."

Christa looks apprehensive. "You sure...?"

"Yeah."

Lee doesn't leave anymore room for argument as he pulls himself onto the sign, swallowing anxiously as he avoids looking down. His eyes focus on the Marsh House, making his fear fade to anger as he readies himself to move across.

"Just go nice and slow!"

Lee slowly looks over at Omid with a blank expression, making him grin with a wave.

He sighs and looks back to his destination, slowly scooting wide steps across the sign.

"I'm almost there-- it's an easy crossing!" Lee calls to the two.

"Good," Omid sighs dramatically in relief.

Lee's eyes narrow as he feels the sign shift, holding on tightly with a yell as it starts to collapse from left to right.

He was lucky to have grabbed on to a sturdier part of the sign, the rest of it collapsing down below.

"Shit!" Omid yells frantically at Lee.

"Fuck!" Lee curses, struggling to hold himself up at this awkward angle.

He strains his arm muscles as he pulls his body forward to safety, panting softly from the extortion.

"Shit..." Lee breathes out in relief, looking down with wide eyes.

"Are you okay?!"

"Fine!" Lee calls back to Omid. "But I'm kinda fucked here."

"What are you gonna do?!"

Lee looks down at the streets, and over his shoulder at the Marsh Harsh. His gaze hardens, his mouth in a thin line.

"Fuck it. I'm going for it!"

Omid shares a baffled look with Christa. "Going for it?!"

"What does that mean?" she asks in a rushed voice.

"It means I'm already bitten! I just have to push my way through!" Lee firmly shouts back, rising to his full height on the sign.

"What the fuck?!" Omid blinks rapidly in disbelief.

Lee shimmies close to the building, readying himself to jump down before turning to the two. "Let's meet outside of town! By the train!"

(?) Christa and Omid will remember that

"Are. You. Nuts?!"

"It's the only way!" Lee barks back. "Do you hear me?!"

Omid reluctantly nods, "yeah, by the train!"

"Jesus... We'll be there!" Christa confirms, her tone panicked.

Lee looks between the two with a firm nod, smiling as he starts climbing down the drain pipe.

And into the Eye of the Storm.

...

Lee's face was hardened as he rounds the corner to face the walkers, taking out his meat cleaver. He looks up at the Marsh House, nodding to himself with a fierce determination to save Clement and (Y/N).

He takes a step forward, pausing as glass crunches beneath his boot.

Lee peers down at it, his eyes landing on his bite mark. He squats down, picking up the long shard of glass with that hand, and holds it tightly until he bleeds.

He looks between his weapons, nodding and walking with confidence. A woman walker with long brown hair takes notice of him, Lee using the shard of glass to pierce her mouth through before bashing the clever through her skull.

Lee flinches as walker blood splatters over his clothing and face, but ignores it as another walker limps closer to him.

He slams the cleaver against his temple, turning to another walker and piercing through his forehead with the glass.

Lee turns to another walker, a teenager, and stabs the glass clean through between his brow.

He pants heavily as he continues marching through the walkers, wiping their blood off his face and smearing it more.

Lee screams as he strikes the glass through a walker to hold him back, driving the cleaver down directly onto his head.

He shoves that walker corpse into a group of walkers, making a path for him to walk.

Lee turns to one last walker in his way, yelling and swinging the cleaver horizontally. It slices clean through the walker's head.

Lee doesn't flinch this time as more blood smears over his clothing, his eyes set firmly on the hotel. He breathes heavily, both in anger and exhaustion, and makes his way inside.
