Episode Two: Starved For Help
Three Months Later...
Lee and Mark, a man with short black hair and blue eyes behind a frame of glasses, walk through the wooded area near the motel in search of food.
Lee creeps up behind a walker eating an animal corpse, raising his axe and swiftly bringing it down on his skull.
Mark walks over holding a rifle, a sigh leaving him. "Dammit. What'd they get this time?"
"Looks like a rabbit," Lee's nose scrunches up as he looks at the torn apart rabbit, its insides gone.
"Another meal lost." Mark grumbles as they walk. "I still can't believe we went through all that commissary food in three months. It seemed like so much at the time..."
"Maybe you shouldn't have opened your door."
Mark snickers, "yeah. Except then I'd probably be food by now. Trust me, I have no regrets."
Lee nods, a frown on his face. "A rabbit's hardly a meal... But I'd take it. We're all hungry."
"No kidding."
The two were quiet for a moment as they continued walking, Lee gripping his axe readily.
"When I accidentally grabbed for Carley's rations the other night, I thought she was gonna take off my hand!" Mark continues, shivering.
"We're all on edge," Lee defends, sighing. "Just cut her some slack."
"Yeah." Mark shrugs, nodding. "You're right. I wish I knew for sure how much food we have left."
Lee frowns as he shakes his head, "not enough. According to Lilly, we've just about hit the last of our food reserves. Some people might have to go without tonight."
"You mean Lilly's Lottery again?" Mark bitterly chuckles. "Kenny's gonna be pissed."
"She thinks everyone should have an equal chance of missing a meal."
Mark exhales loudly through his nose, looking around the forest. "You think Kenny's having any more luck than we are out here?"
"I sure hope so," Lee checks behind them, facing forward when he sees no walkers.
"Yeah," Mark sighs, "between the lack of food and Kenny and Lilly fighting all the time, things are getting pretty tense back at the Motor Inn."
He pauses, looking back to Lee.
"You know, Kenny's been talking about taking off if he can get the RV running."
Lee frowns, though he understood Kenny's reasons. "He's got a wife and son to look out for."
(?) Lee gave his opinion about Kenny
"And they're safest in a big group," Mark disagrees. "Going out on his own will get them all killed. I can't blame him, though... Did you hear Larry going off on him last night? What's the old guy's deal, anyway? Seems like he's got a problem with you in particular."
A crow flies overhead as Lee grumbles, a scowl on his face. "He thinks I'm a danger to the group. And to Clement and (Y/N)."
(?) Mark will remember that
"I think he's the one putting us in danger," Mark huffs, shaking his head as he watches the crow. "The way Lilly worried about his health... I wouldn't be surprised if she's been skimming rations for him. And I know Lilly thinks he's getting weaker, but the guy's all muscle! He's a walking piledriver!"
He shivers.
"I know I wouldn't want to he stuck in a room with him. Didn't he punch you in the face one time?"
Lee scoffs as he nods, scowling. "Knocked me flat."
Lee follows Mark as he follows the crow, quickly getting into position and taking aim as it lands on a branch.
"It's a long shot," Lee comments, unsure. "I'd hate to waste the bullet."
"Trust me. If I don't think I can hit it, I won't shoot."
Mark takes aim, and fires.
And misses.
Lee sighs, going to speak when the sound of a man screaming makes the two jump.
"Shit! Is that Kenny?!"
"I don't know!" Lee swiftly rises, "come on!"
He and Mark race through the woods towards the screaming, avoiding tree roots and dodging branches.
They enter a small clearing, two teenage boys wearing jersey jackets and a man on the ground near the edge.
One of the teenagers was trying to pry open a bear trap the teacher was trapped in, the teacher yelping in pain.
"Jesus Christ!" Mark breathes out, startling the teenagers.
"Oh, shit! No, please don't kill us!" Travis pleads as he rises, him and Ben holding their hands up. "We just want to help our teacher! We'll leave, I swear!"
"Lee!" Kenny shouts as he runs over, also hearing the scream. "You guys okay?!"
"Get it off! Get it off, God dammit, get it off!" David, the teacher, screams in agony.
"Travis, maybe they can help!"
"These might be the same guys that raided our camp! We barely got away from that!"
"What guys?" Mark questions, his brows furrowed.
"Why the fuck is there a bear trap out here?!"
"I don't know!" Travis stammers out.
"It's okay," Lee reassures. "We're not gonna hurt you!"
"Don't listen to him, Ben!" Travis firmly says, turning back to Lee with a pleading expression. "Please, just let us go! We're not a threat to you!"
"Kid, chill out!" Kenny snaps, huffing. "We'll try to help you, but you've got to shut the fuck up!"
"Lee, this is fucked up. We gotta help him!"
"Please," Ben agrees desperately, nodding.
"Ben, shut up! My dad was Special Forces, I know what I'm doing!"
Ben glares at Travis, ignoring him. "Just see if you can get him out! After that, you can leave us or whatever, I don't care! Please!"
Mark and Kenny look to Lee, who looka down at David. "We got to get him out of there."
"Oh, God, thank you!" David whimpers out, his leg oozing blood from where the trap spikes were digging in.
"Fine, but you gotta hurry!" Kenny urges, looking aroun at the tree line.
"Hurry, please hurry!" David pleads as Mark kneels down, inspecting the trap.
Mark's eyes widen as he shakes his head, "Lee, this trap's been altered. There's no release latch!"
Travis looks around, his eyes widening at the sight of walkers. "Oh, no."
"Shit! Walkers!" Kenny curses, turning to Lee. "It's now or never, Lee!"
"Please get me out of this!"
"Mark, get the boys back! Kenny, keep those walkers off me!" Lee yells as he kneels besides David.
Lee grabs a branch, grunting as he tries to use it to pry the latches apart. David screams, the branch snapping.
"God damn it!" Lee curses, throwing the broken branch away.
He rises, rushing to the chain and swinging his axe down on it multiple times.
"Forget it!" Mark yells, firing at a walker. "We use chain like that at the Air Force base to lift ordinance. You're not cutting it!"
"Lee, just cut his damn leg off! All that blood and screaming, we're gonna be surrounded any minute!" Kenny shouts, firing at multiple walkers.
Lee closes his eyes tightly as he rises, David looking up at him as he wields his axe. "Oh, god..."
"I'm going to have to cut you out," Lee lowly speaks, shaking his head with fearful eyes.
"No, no, no! Try the trap again! Anything, please!"
"I'm wasting ammo! We gotta go!"
Lee raises his axe, grunting as he swings it down on David's leg. He screams loudly as it almost hacks through, blood spraying everywhere. Lee does it again, some nerves and flesh still hanging on. One more time, and he manages to cut David out.
(?) Lee cut David free
David whimpers as he passes out, Travis retching before rushing away to vomit.
"Shit... Is he...?" Mark trails off.
"He passed out," Lee reassures, blood pooling from David's detached leg.
"If he's alive, grab him and let's go!" Kenny orders, Mark slipping his gun on and kneeling.
He picks up David, carrying him over his shoulders as the walkers get closer.
Lee looks back, his eyes widening when he sees walkers nearing Travis. "Behind you!"
"Travis!" Ben yells, going to rush to him when Lee stops him by grabbing hold of him.
"Come on, come on, we gotta move!"
Travis looks up from throwing up, screaming and backing away as walkers stagger closer to him. He trips backwards, crawling back and hitting a large rock.
"Help!"
He shrieks as walkers descend on him, tearing apart his flesh and devouring his organs.
"No!" Ben screams.
...
..
Larry works on reinforcing the fence around the parking lot of the Motor Inn, Lilly sitting on the RV for watch duty.
Clement, his hat gone, kicks a soccer ball to (Y/N), (Y/N) grinning as she kicks it over to the barrel her doll was resting on. Clement rolls his eyes playfully with an amused smile as she includes her doll in their game, moving to get the ball again.
Katjaa walks over to check on Duck, Duck coloring and smiling at his mother as she kneels besides him.
Lilly had a content smile on her face as she looked around at the group, her smile dropping when she hears rustling coming from the woods. Her eyes narrow as she rises, aiming her rifle.
Clement kicks the ball to (Y/N), the kick making a soft thumping sound. She kicks it back, the same thumping occuring.
Clement grins to her as he kicks it to her (Favorite Animal) doll, (Y/N) giggling as she walks over to get it.
Lilly sharply whistles, (Y/N) softly gasping as she ducks down. Clement crouch-walks over to her, looking around with furrowed eyebrows.
Carley gets down as well, taking out her pistol as Katjaa wraps her arm around Duck.
Larry peeks over the wall with a scowl, glaring into the woods as he watches for danger.
"Get the gates open!" Lee shouts as he staggers from the woods, Lilly's eyes widening. "We've got wounded!"
"Shit!" she hisses, lowering her gun. "What the hell are they doing?!"
Lee grunts as he pushes the dumpster, Mark and Kenny and Ben appearing from the woods.
"Come on, come on!" Kenny urges to Mark, Ben running over and helping Lee open the gate.
"What happened?!"
"What's going on?!
"Who the hell are these people!"
"I don't have time to explain!" Lee firmly says, Mark walking through with David on his shoulders still.
"Lee?" (Y/N) calls, holding her doll loosely in her arms.
"Are you okay?" Clement questions in concern, frowning.
"Get him into the truck," Katjaa orders as she holds Duck, Mark nodding as he sets David down on the truck bed. "I'll see what I can do."
"Kat, can you fix him?"
"Jesus, Ken! I-- I... I don't know!"
"Lee. Lee." Lilly firmly says as she approaches, scowling. "What the hell?! You can't just be bringing new people here! What are you thinking?!"
"Hey!" Kenny snaps, glaring to her. "You wanna calm down for a fucking minute?"
"Watch your--!" Larry starts.
"No. I don't!" Lilly continues yelling. "I want to know why you thought bringing more mouths to feed was a good idea!"
"Jesus Christ," Mark grumbles, rolling his eyes.
"He would have died if we left him!" Lee firmly replies, his gaze hardening.
"So, what?!" Larry demands, huffing.
Lilly steps forward, jabbing her finger on Lee's chest. "We are not responsible for every struggling survivor we come across! We have have to focus on our group! Right here, right now."
"Well, hang on!" Carley intervenes. "We haven't even talked to these people yet. Maybe they can be helpful!"
"Come on, Lilly!" Mark yells in exasperation. "These are people! People trying to survive. Just like us! We've got to stick together to survive!"
Lilly scoffs, turning to Mark. "The only reason you're here is because you had food. Enough for all of us. But that food is almost gone. We've got maybe a week's left worth left..."
She looks over to Ben, making him flinch. "And I don't suppose you guys are carrying any groceries. Are you?!"
"U-Um... No..."
"Fine," Mark sighs loudly in anger, "you guys fight this out, then. Welcome to the family, kid." He grumbles as he walks away.
(Y/N) and Clement look to one another before she steps over to Ben, grabbing his hand and tugging on him.
"Come over here, and see what we're drawing!" she urges with a small smile.
"What? N-No, I..."
Ben trails off as she tugs on him again, leading him away from the others.
"Just come on, okay?" Clement also speaks up, Ben reluctantly following the two kids.
"You know," Kenny bitterly laughs, shaking his head as he stomps over to Lilly. "You like to think you're the leader of this little group, but we can make our own Goddamn decisions! This isn't your own personal dictatorship!"
"Oh, come on!" Carley groans in annoyance. "You're being dramatic. Everything always turns into a power struggle between you two," she turns and walks away, calling over her shoulder. "And I'm not gonna be apart of that."
"Hey, I didn't ask to lead this group!" Lilly shouts back to Kenny, crossing her arms. "Everyone was happy to have me distributing food when there was enough to go around. Now that it's running out, suddenly I'm a Goddamn Nazi!"
"Kenny's right," Lee intervenes, shaking his head. "Yeah, you're in charge of the food, and the schedules, but you're not in charge of people's lives!"
(?) They all noticed Lee sided with Kenny
"Really?!" Lilly scoffs in disbelief.
"You weren't there! Lee made a choice. End of story!" Kenny turns away from her, walking away with Duck following.
"Look," Lee sighs heavily, "once Katjaa patches that guy up, you can kick them out of here. Send them out on their own, I couldn't care less. But they at least deserve a fighting chance against the walkers!"
Lilly glares at Lee as he continues speaking.
"And for the record, Kenny wanted to leave those people behind!"
"If Kenny would pull his head out of his ass for five seconds, he'd realize that I make these decisions to protect his family!" Lilly snaps back, shaking her head. "We simply don't have enough food!"
"I don't see any of you stepping up to make the hard decisions!" Larry butts in. "My girl's got more balls than all of you combined!"
"Dad, please," Lilly gently speaks, gesturing over to Mark. "Why don't you go help Mark with the wall?"
Larry exhales loudly, glaring at Lee before turning and walking away.
"You know what?" Lilly bitterly laughs, turning and walking over to the backpack by the RV. "If you think I'm doing such a shitty job, then you do it!"
Lee's eyes squint as he follows after her, Lilly shoving the food items in his hands.
"That's all the food we have for today. You decide who gets to eat!"
"Lilly," Lee starts, shaking his head.
"No. I'm serious. Start handing out that food. You see how it feels to not have enough food for everyone!"
(?) Lee only has five food items for eleven hungry people
Lilly storms off as Lee looks down at the food in his hands.
Two halves of an apple, two cheese and cracker packs, and a piece of beef jerky.
Lee could feel the hungry stares from the group, making him close his eyes tightly as he sighs heavily.
He turns to Katjaa, walking over to her. "Here... You should eat something."
"Why dont you give it to Duck?" Katjaa replies in irritation, under stress from trying to help David. "I'm a little busy with your mess right now."
Lee winces, "is he going to be okay?"
"I don't know. Can you give me a hand real quick?"
Lee tucks the food away safely, nodding as he approaches. "Sure. What do you need?"
"Apply some pressure here while I try to close this up," she replies, Lee listening and pressing his hands to the wounds. "You know, I thought I was starting to get used to this. Sewing up people's injuries. But I mean... Cuts and bruises are one thing. But Lee, this man has no leg!"
Lee winces in guilt, but recalls the amount of walkers approaching. "I did the right thing."
Katjaa sighs softly, "yeah. I know you did. The right thing is just... Scary sometimes, I guess."
Lee remains silent, Katjaa looking over to him. "Well, you've done all you can, Lee. Thank you for the help. Go ahead and check on the others. I need a little space here anyway."
He nods and turns away, walking over to check on Mark with Larry.
"Will you hold the damn thing steady?!"
"I'm trying!" Mark snaps back, holding up the board for Larry. "I didn't realize I was getting this weak already."
"What do you want? A handout?" Larry scoffs. "I got 60 cents in my pocket if you'll shut up and quit being such a pansy!"
Mark ignores him, turning to Lee. "You holding up okay, Lee? That was pretty fucked up back there... Having to cut that guy's leg off."
"Yeah," Lee nods, frowning as he looks over to Katjaa. "I just hope Katjaa can save him."
Mark nods in agreement, Lee looking over the wall.
"Need any help with the wall?"
"Nope." Larry bluntly replies.
"Actually," Mark glares at Larry before smiling to Lee. "We could use your axe. Mind if we take it?"
"Yeah, give us that thing for a bit."
Larry holds out his hand expectantly, Lee's brow raises as he hands it over to Mark.
"Here, Mark. This should help."
"Thanks." Mark thanks, taking it.
Larry scoffs, scowling. "Hey! I'm the one doing all the work over here. You didn't think to give me the axe?"
"Come on, Larry!" Mark says in exasperation, shaking his head. "Give it a rest! I'm sure Lee is getting pretty sick of you thinking he's a danger to the group!"
Larry's scowl deepens as he turns to Lee. "Is that what you told him?"
Lee's brow arches as he glares up at Larry, "yeah. That's right!"
Larry moves closer to Lee, towering over him. "And what are you going to do about it?!"
"Look!" Mark shouts, getting between the two. "I don't care what it is, but you two have got to start trying to get along!"
"The only thing I have to do is protect my daughter," Larry's glare remains on Lee. "And right now, that means getting this damn wall fixed. So I'd appreciate if you two would shut up and let me get back to work!"
Lee looks to Mark, shaking his head disapprovingly at the fact he basically told Larry they talked about him behind his back, and walks away.
He walks over to the kids, (Y/N) perking up and getting Clement's attention.
Clement smiles and rises, the two rushing over as Lee grins and sets a hand on (Y/N)'s head.
"How ya doing, you two?"
"Okay," she responds, looking back to Clement.
Lee does the same, noticing something was off. "Where's your hat?"
"I don't know," Clement frowns as he scratches the back of his head. "Can you help me and (Y/N) find it?"
Lee nods, pulling his hand off (Y/N)'s head. "Sure, bud. When did you lose it?"
"I had it a couple of days ago..."
"We were looking around for it, and found my (Favorite Animal) doll over by the dumpster," (Y/N) mentions, looking over to her doll sitting on her drawing.
Lee's brows furrow as he rubs his chin, "well... I promise, if I find it, I'll let you know."
"Thank you," Clement nods with a grateful smile, him and (Y/N) returning to their drawings.
Lee squats down besides them, taking out the two halves of the apple. "Here you two go."
(?) Lee chose to take care of Clement and (Y/N)
"I love apples!" Clement grins widely, (Y/N) happily taking a bite out of hers.
"Thank you, Lee!" she thanks, her voice muffled by the food. "Are there any more?"
"No, those were the last apple halves." Lee replies, (Y/N) stopping mid-chew and Clement looking at his piece unsurely. "Enjoy it. You both deserve it."
(Y/N) smiles, swallowing her bite as Clement takes a bite of his own apple.
"How you two doing? Everything all right?"
"I think so," (Y/N) replies as she colors her drawing, Clement looking up at Lee.
"Is that man going to be okay?"
Lee sighs softly, shaking his head. "I'm not sure."
"I hope he will."
"Hey, Duck. How about some food?"
Lee looks to Duck, handing over one of the crackers and cheese.
(?) Duck and his family appreciate that
"Oh, man!" Duck exclaims as he takes the food. "I'm so hungry! Thanks."
"How ya doing?"
"I'm okay. Me and Clement and (Y/N) are coloring!" Duck excitedly replies.
"Guess what it is," Clement grins as he holds up his drawing of (Y/N).
"I don't know... A tree?" Ben questions, not really looking.
"Nope."
"Oh, I know! It's a barrel, right?!"
"No!" Clement huffs in irritation, his brows furrowing.
"... Me?" (Y/N) offers, his expression lighting up.
"Yes!"
"Oh!" (Y/N) nods, a small smile on her face. "It looks really nice! Thank you, Clem."
Lee chuckles and rises, walking over to Carley and holding out the other crackers and cheese.
"Here."
"Me?" Carley blinks rapidly in surprise. "How about you?"
(?) Lee chose to feed Carley
"You look like crap, Lee," she continues in concern. "When was the last time you ate?"
"I'm okay," Lee chuckles, Carley shaking her head with furrowed brows.
"I want you to have it, okay? In case you or your kids starts feeling weak."
Lee frowns as she makes him take it back, a small smile on Carley's face.
"I know I said it didn't matter why you saved me instead of Doug, but..."
"You don't owe me anything, Carley," Lee firmly reassures.
She doesn't reply, looking away as Lee turns to Kenny.
Kenny was sitting on a couch by the RV holding a pipe, looking a little pale.
He walks over, holding out the piece of jerky. "Here, Kenny."
"What about my boy?" Kenny questions in concern. "He eat yet?"
"Yeah," Lee nods, looking back to Duck devouring the cheese and crackers. "I gave him something."
(?) The others noticed Lee fed Kenny
"Sure, then hand it over." Kenny sighs softly with a smile, taking the jerky. "I'm starved. Thanks."
The two were quiet for a moment as Kenny ate, Lee recalling what Mark said. "Word's got out that you wanna leave the motor inn."
"That ain't no secret, Lee," Kenny softly chuckles, shaking his head. "It's probably our best bet."
He rises as he finishes the jerky, dusting off his hands. "Look, you've been good to me and my family. You saved Duck from those monsters, and you stood up to Larry at the drugstore. I won't forget that. You and Clem and (Y/N) are welcomed to come with us."
Lee's face falls in surprise as he considers it, looking around at the parking lot. "The coast does sound like a smart idea. Maybe that is the best thing."
(?) Lee told Kenny leaving for the coast was a good idea
"I know that it is," Kenny nods firmly, sitting back down. "I'm taking my family."
Lee nods as he turns away, looking down at the last food item in his hand. He sighs softly, "some of these people have gone longer than me without food. They're the ones that need it."
He walks around the RV, Lilly calling to him. "How's it going, Lee? From up here, it looks like you're playing favorites," she mocks.
Lee ignores her, rolling his eyes as he walks to the middle of the parking lot. His eyes land on Mark as he almost drops the board again, Larry yelling at him.
His mouth curves back in concern as he walks over, Mark shaking lightly from hunger as he leans on the fence to take a break.
"Here, Mark."
Mark looks up in surprise, Lee holding out the cheese and crackers.
(?) Lee fed Mark
A smile spreads on his face as he nods gratefully, "thanks, Lee..."
Lee nods, turning and walking back over to the RV and looking up at Lilly with a saddened expression.
"Not such an easy job, is it?" she questions, her tone much softer as she recognizes his look as her own.
"Never said it was," he sighs, looking down for a moment. "I don't envy you. I don't know how you have the strength to do this every day."
"I don't have a choice."
Lee rubs the back of his neck, Kenny rising from his spot and approaching. "Hey. Thanks for looking out for me and my family. I'm serious about that offer to come with us. You've more than earned a ride on the RV with me."
He looks around, his eyes landing on a fuming Larry approaching.
"Still... Guess some people aren't gonna be too happy with your choices."
"You're out?!" Larry bellows, making Lee turn back to him. "What happened to my food?!"
Lee sighs, "there's none left."
"You keep treating people like this, and your days in this group are numbered!"
Kenny steps forward, gripping his pipe. "You're one to talk, old man." He defends Lee.
"Yeah?" Larry angrily laughs, shaking his head. "Well I don't see you working on that wall!"
He turns and stomps off, Kenny huffing and shaking his head.
"Ken! Lee! Come here, please!" Katjaa calls, making the two look over and approach.
"He didn't make it, did he?" Kenny sighs, knowing the answer.
"He... Lost too much blood," Katjaa shakes her head, closing her eyes.
"God damn it," Kenny turns away, throwing his pipe roughly as he walks around the RV. "I'm getting sick of this shit."
"Ken, come back! There's nothing..."
"Let him go, Katjaa," Lee sighs as she stands near the truck bed, on the side of the truck.
"But..."
"He just needs time," he softly continues. "It's been a rough morning."
Katjaa looks at the blood on her clothing and hands, sighing. "That man you brought... I tried... But he was never going to survive."
"Well... At least he's not our problem anymore."
"What about the other kid?"
Lee rubs the back of his neck, "maybe he can-- holy shit!! Katjaa!"
David, now a walker, rises, grabbing Katjaa's face as he tries to bite her.
Lee leaps into action, holding Katjaa's head away from David and keeping a hand firmly on David's forehead.
He grunts as he manages to free Katjaa, turning to Mark. "The axe! Hurry!"
The walker grabs Lee and pulls him onto the truck, Lee shouting as he shoves him away.
He slams the walker's head side to side on the truck, Mark racing over.
"Move, move!"
Lee shoves David, Mark swinging the axe and missing, shattering the truck back window glass.
"Shit! It's stuck!" Mark shouts as he tries yanking the axe free, Lee scooting backwards from the walker.
He kicks the walker away roughly as he continues moving backwards, falling off the truck with a yell.
The walker snarls and lands on Lee, Lee digging his thumbs into the walker's eyes to keep him from biting him.
Mark runs over, unsurely raising the axe. "Move him aside! I don't want to hit you!"
Carley runs over, quickly loading her gun and aiming it at the walkers head, firing.
Lee pants heavily as he shoves the walker off from him, sitting up as Carley kneels at his side.
"Are you okay?!"
"Yeah," he pants out, nodding. "Thanks."
Larry scoffs as he walks over, "why'd you bring him here in the first place, asshole?!"
Lee rises from the floor as the others start approaching, Lilly holding her rifle.
"Dad, calm down."
He ignores her, still glaring at Lee. "You're gonna get us all killed!"
Kenny gently rubs Katjaa's back as he hugs her tightly, scowling at Ben when he walks over.
"Why didn't you tell us he was bitten?!" he demands.
"What?!" Ben squeaks out, his brow furrowing.
"He was bitten, and you didn't say Goddamn word!"
"But he wasn't bitten! I swear!"
Kenny scoffs, "well, your not-bitten friend here came back to life and tried to kill my wife!"
Ben blinks rapidly, "what?! Wait... You all don't know?"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"It's not the bite that does it!" Ben explains, shaking his head as he looks around at the group. "You come back no matter how you die. If you don't destroy the brain, that's just what happens. It's going to happen to all of us."
Lee's eyes widen as he shakes his head in disbelief. "You're lying..." he says, trying to convince himself.
"It's true," Ben quickly replies. "I swear it!"
Katjaa looks down at David's body, "maybe he's right... I didn't see any bites. And it would explain why there's so many of them."
Kenny rubs his face with both hands, dragging them down. "Jesus Christ. If you just die and that's all it takes... Then shit, one fatal car wreck and a family of five turns into a family of walkers."
"When I first saw it happen, we were all hiding out in a gym, and everybody thought we were finally safe. But one of the girls, Jenny Pitcher I think, I guess she couldn't take it," Ben closes his eyes, hugging his arms to himself. "She took some pills. A lot of them. Someone went in the girls' room the next morning and... God..."
Lee and Kenny share a wide-eyed look at the new information, (Y/N) holding Clement's hand tightly as she hugs her doll.
"Back off!" Carley suddenly shouts, making them look over.
She was aiming her gun over the boards, two men on the street.
"Whoa! Lady, relax!" Andy tries to defuse in alarm, holding a gas can. "Me and my brother we... We just want to know if y'all can help us out!"
"I said back off!"
"Carley." Lilly lowly says, shaking her head.
"We don't want any trouble!" Lee shouts, watching the two carefully.
"Of course," Andy nods, him and Dan holding their hands up in surrender. "Neither do we. I'm Andy St. John, and this here's my brother Dan. We're just out looking for gasoline. Looks like you folks got the motel locked down, which is fine, but if you could spare any gas we'd be much obliged."
Carley softly grunts under her breath, still aiming her gun at the two. "Why do you need gas?"
"Our place is protected by an electric fence. Generators provide the electricity," Dan explains.
"Our generators run on gas," Andy finishes, stepping closer with a kind smile. "Look, we own a Dairy Farm a few miles up the road. If y'all be willing to lower your guns, we can talk about some kind of trade."
"How y'all doing on food?" Dan questions, making the group look at one another. "We got plenty at the Dairy."
Lilly considers it for a moment, "Lee. Why don't you and Mark go and check the place out? See if it's legit."
"I'm going with you," Carley chimes in, lowering her gun down. "I got your back if anything seems fishy."
Andy and Dan look to one another as the group talk, Andy stepping forward again. "So, uhh... What are y'all thinking?"
Lee looks over to (Y/N) and Clement, Clement subconsciously putting a hand on his stomach as it growls.
He looks back to the brothers, nodding. "You've got a deal."
(?) Lee decided everyone should go
"We'll bring some gas to your dairy, in exchange, you give us some food to bring back. We'll see how it goes from there," he continues, Andy grinning widely as he nods.
"Sounds fair. Couple of gallons should power one of our generators for a while."
Lee nods back, smiling to Clement and (Y/N) as he, Mark, and Carley and Ben leave to the Dairy Farm.
