The loud sound resonated through the walls as our eyes turned towards the back door.

"Yikes... We must have caught the attention of the zombies." Jinyoung whispered as we shuddered at the thought.

"Damn. What next?" Bambam asked.

"Stay quiet and see if they leave." Taehyung answered bluntly.

Feeling a strong grip on his arm, Taehyung turned to look beside him. Y/N looked at the back door with widened eyes.

"I think they're trying to force their way in." Y/N stated as she slowly turned quiet again.

They all stood quietly and soon the banging and grunting sound came to an end. The loud thumping in their chests made them realize the seriousness of the problem that they were facing.

Their lives which they knew up till now didn't exist any longer. The world has been flipped upside down in a matter of minutes with no warning and only those who are capable and strong enough to fight are able to stay alive. It might sound creepy but the world is now no better than a survival game.

"Things seems quieter now. Let's eat and just sleep taking turns." Nodding to Jinyoung's words we softly sat down on the cold floor.

"Colddddd...!" Bambam shivered as he hugged himself to supply some warmth to himself.

"I've got two blankets, we can share." Jinyoung took out two blankets from his bag and handed Y/N one. "Bambam and I'll share one. Y/N and Taehyung share one."

Taehyung hesitated a bit when Jinyoung told them to share a blanket but nonetheless, he didn't have a choice. The bed in the cottage was big enough for two so they took shifts to decide who would sleep and who would keep an eye on their surroundings.

Bambam and Jinyoung decided to sleep first leaving Taehyung and Y/N to keep watch.

"Just one day can make such a difference..." Y/N broke the silence but was careful enough to speak softly as not to draw any unwanted attention.

"You never know what the future holds now do you?" Taehyung chuckled softly but his eyes held a depressing sense to them. "Who knows how my family is or if they turned to one of those monsters or not..."

Covering his face with both arms, Taehyung looked down, an air of sorrow overcoming his senses. Tears threatened to fall as the boy quickly closed his eyes in attempts of hiding his vulnerability.

Sensing his sorrow, Y/N scoots over closer to him as she gently rubs his back.

"I can't say anything for sure and neither am I willing to give you false hope that they are alright. I can only say that you have to keep fighting because that's the only thing we can do now."

Still not raising his head, Taehyung nodded slowly.

"And don't feel lonely or scared because just as you promised not to leave me. I promise you that I will always be by your side, whenever you need me."

Her words taking him by surprise, Taehyung raised his head and looked at Y/N. Her smile warmed his heart as he felt tears trickle down his cheeks.

Reaching out to wipe them with her thumb, Y/N envelops the boy in a friendly hug which made the boy feel oddly comfortable. Wrapping his arms around Y/N's tiny waist, he nuzzles his head into the crook of her neck. Her presence made him feel secure and that he'll be fine.

The ties of a simple promise gave him strength to push forward through all the madness that happened around him. A silent will formed in his mind as he made it his aim not to break it. To protect her.

Finally when their shift was over, they walked over to the bed. Just as they were about to lie down, the though of sleeping together struck Taehyung's mind and caused him to tense up.

Y/N slipped into the bed and gently patted the space beside her asking Taehyung to lay down.

"You want to sleep right?" Taehyung quickly nodded. Cautiously slipping into the bed beside Y/N, he lay down but not in quite a comfortable manner.

The thought of sleeping beside her caused him to get goosebumps but it didn't seem to bother Y/N. They faced away from each other while sleeping.

"Goodnight Taehyung."

"Goodnight..." Taehyung greeted back as he shut his eyes.

Sleep. That is what he needed but was definitely not getting. The warmth that spread across his back caused him to stay wide awake.

"Taehyung." A soft voice called out as he just hummed as a means to reply her. "Can't sleep?"

Taehyung turned over only to face Y/N, her face a few centimeters away from his. The pace of his heart beat fastened as he felt a warm feeling over his cheeks. Due to the lack of light, the slight blush went unnoticed by the girl that lay beside Taehyung.

"Yeah... You can't either?" Nodding her head Y/N shifted under the blanket as she turned to look right into Taehyung's eyes, captivating him.

They stared at one another for what felt like hours but those were just minutes that flew by with no warnings.

Just as Taehyung was about to loose his senses as he was drowning in her eyes, a low humming brought him back.

"Y/N?" Taehyung whispered but earned no reply.

"Whenever I couldn't sleep, my mom would always sing a song and I would instantly drift into deep slumber." A soft smile formed on Y/N's lips as she continued humming the unknown song, slowly allowing the entire day's tiredness to catch up to them as a deep slumber washes upon their exhausted figures.

Soft snores with a little creaking of the bed could be heard as Jinyoung and Bambam made their way back into the cottage after their shift was over.

Their eyes turned towards Y/N and Taehyung who lay asleep on the bed, a peaceful slumber enveloping them in it's warmth.

"Should we wake them up?" Bambam asked Jinyoung who smiled at Y/N and Taehyung.

"Nah. Let them be. We'll extend our shift just a bit longer."
