Chapter 11
Sighing heavily, I step into the platform hesitantly. Spreading my arms out, I ask, "What now"?
She slowly starts circling me. "To answer your question from before, your outfits the wrong color. Secondly, it doesn't scream 'leader'. If someone sees you in this they'll probably try and get you to follow them instead of them following you. So it's changing", she says, her still funny accent heavily affecting the English.
"..."
"I guess you can change it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I start grumbling about life choices and all that," I say with a quick smile that slowly turns to a frown under her foreboding gaze.
"You can't, just CAN'T, use that tone in front of the Council," she says snootily. "Who knows what kind of trouble that'll get you into." I shrug, not caring one bit about what she just said. The so-called 'Council' has seen what I'd done to the illusion, and they obviously needed me, so there was basically what seemed like free-rein to me.
I quickly divert my attention to the platform underneath me. "What's this gonna do? I assume it's built with redstone, right?" A quiet hum had automatically confirmed that for me when I'd first stepped onto it, but I wanted to hear her side of it.
She ends up waving me off. "Of course not. You think I'd put another poor, sorry soul through another one of my amazing machines after last time?"
Looking at where her eyes would be, I try and figure out if she's telling the truth. Somethings... not right. This HAS to be a test. There's no way it isn't.
She gives a small snort. "Xelqua, second guessing me isn't going to help anything. I swear, your outfit is just as important as the test itself. If your wearing that, the Council might label you as weak. If your wearing something that doesn't suit you, they're gonna label you as indecisive. The outfit is one of the parts they look at."
Rolling my eyes slightly, I say, "Fine, show me what to do. I didn't mean to set you off." This seems to calm her down a little bit.
Turning her attention to a control panel in front of her, she taps a few buttons. Soon I'm enveloped in a bright beam of light. Automatically starting to struggle, I find I can't move.
Quickly starting to hyperventilate, I find out that my wings at the moment are free, flapping every which way possible.
One wing snakes around and magnates to hit Yelqua, knocking her back a few feet. "Oh, calm down," she says, moving back into her spot. "You're fine. I'm just making sure you can't move around while I start designing.
She's glaring at me now, but I can't seem to calm down any. She lightly presses another button on the panel, and slowly I start feeling light headed. Whatever she did calms me down, wings sagging behind me.
She gives her shoulder a quick rub where I accidentally hit her. "Thank goodness I installed that button. You really need to start working on your breathing exercises I talked about earlier. Every student who goes through the Academy needs them. I've seen students go crazy in the middle of their tests, failing The instantly."
Since I can't talk, I just settling with glaring at her.
You could've at least given me a warning. I barely controlled myself. The sword threatened to make an appearance, and I don't think you'd like to turn out like the illusion. Your head might've made a nice addition to my bare room though, don't you think?
Her smile falters a little bit, and she gives a loud cough. "Can I just start please? It shouldn't take that long. All you need to do is stay still, which shouldn't be a problem. Alright?"
I blink once. Yelqua starts taking me through the process, which true to her word doesn't take long at all. Five, maybe six minutes at the most. Stepping wobble down from the platform, she helps guide me to mirror she has situated on the corner of the room.
I just flat out stop one I see my entire outfit. She was right about the red jumper not being suitable at all. The suit I have on now is absolutely magnificent! It had a soft, lace dude glow, made fully of soft silk. It was light to the touch, almost moving as if I was wearing a cloud. My wings were brushed out behind me, feathers glowing with perfect health.
A red rose sat in my breast pocket along with an off-white handkerchief, which poked out of the top. And even though my wings were out, a cape ended with gold flowed down my back.
"W-wow," I stutter, basically speechless. "You... you work wonders." She gives a lift laugh and smiles. "Thank you dear. And while I know it looks stylish, I could t help but add a few custom items that are functional as well as stylish themselves."
"If you take out the handkerchief, it will give you a magical map of your surroundings. Every time you say 'bless you' it will become blank and usable again. If you sniff the rose, you will be put into your field uniform once you get one. Even if you don't get put into field work first, you still could get there one day."
"And last but not least, you cape. If you're ever flying with your real wings, you can use your cape to make it look like your using elytra. That way you don't need to use a spell to hide them, and you can't actually use them the moment you need them."
I can't help but gape at the resourceful thinking of Yelqua. She really did think of everything. "Th-thank you. I don't know what to say." She doesn't say anything, just sweeps me up into a hug, easily lifting me off my feet. Then she squeezes my arm. Hard. "Listen. You only have about a day or so until they come to collect you for your test. You NEED to be ready for anything," she whispers to me all I can do is blink and agree.
She lets go oeand gives me a playful shove towards the door, indicating I can go. On my way or she gives me a wave, and I wave back. All the way back to my room I'm thinking. What does 'be ready for anything mean'? Is something bad gonna happen? I shiver and collapse onto my bed once I get back to my room.
